Seahawks RB Alexander may have re-injured foot?

Written by: Mike Sando ¦ 9/25/2006

Source: blogs.thenewstribune.com

I'm heading to Kirkland here shortly. Mike Holmgren's press conference is at 2:15 p.m. PDT. We should have an update on Shaun Alexander at that time. The early word today is that his foot injury could be serious enough to threaten his streak of 99 consecutive games played. Holmgren said otherwise on his radio show this morning, but of course these things change as more information becomes available. We'll get the latest to you as it becomes known.

maybe they can perform some kind of exorcism with a copy of the game and some garlic.......see if that works

I guess Holmgren wasn't too concerned about it yesterday as he left him in the game with that lead.
I was absolutely incredulous watching him trot in in the second half. For as good as they looked most of the game, there were some serious coaching lapses. Almost lost it again when Hass took a shot to the shoulder. Get the backups in for some real time game action. And when your star is gimpy with a 39 point lead, SIT HIM!!!!

Alexander out with cracked foot

Posted by Mike Sando @ 02:20:56 pm

RB Shaun Alexander will miss "at least a couple weeks" with a broken bone in his foot. Coach Mike Holmgren just confirmed the injury. This means RB Maurice Morris becomes the starter for the Chicago game and beyond. Alexander has played in 99 consecutive regular-season games. We'll have more specific information once Holmgren has finished his press conference.

this is ...... how do we say..... big news?

Holmgren is a freaking idiot for keeping him in there. He should have been on the bench as soon as the score was 35-0. He is your franchise, you simply don't take that risk especially when they are already battling an injury.

If I was a Seahawks fan I would demand Holgren's head on a pike if this ends up being more then one week.

Holmgren really "stabbed him in the foot" by leaving SA in there.

Doesn't he know that Alexander doesn't want to stay in a game when it doesn't mean anything just for the sake of amassing stats?

Can anyone give us a scouting report on how MoMo is? How good is he? What kind of back is he? Remind you of another back?

and most importantly: how successful will he be?

thanks!

Well at least he has a bye week 5.. hopefully he won't miss more than 2 or 3 weeks.. but a broken bone doesn't sound good..

for taking him 2nd instead of LT.... :wall:

So I'm reading this thread, and my old-man (he's age 78) is visiting the house, and he looks over my shoulder at the screen.

He says, "well, look on the brightside --- a crack in your foot, is better than a foot in your crack!"..... :D

No wonder I'm so weird!

1. Madden Curse strikes again? Check.

2. Super Bowl loser curse has now begun? Check.

3. Chunky Soup curse already started? Check. (Big Ben and Hasselbeck signed up this year - Ben's already had the bike wreck, the appendix, and 2 losses in 3 games. Probably only a matter of a week or two before something bad happens to Hasselbeck)

UNLOAD ALL SEAHAWKS ASAP!

trading Darrell Jackson for a RB right now would make sense although I don't know if they can make a run with a new RB in the system. If they're going to make a move, its going to be ASAP so they can get the most out of their bye week. Also, I don't think that they want to trade a great WR for a RB who will be benched in 4-6 weeks.

I don't see a trade coming.

Seattle fans have had big hopes for Morris for a long time. Lots of people think Alexander's too soft, dances too much behind the line of scrimmage and won't break tackles (personally, I think these people are nuts). Morris is a good receiver, faster than Alexander but smaller. He seems to end a lot of his runs by initiating contact. I guess the hope is that he's kind of a poor man's Tiki Barber. I think the reality is that he's closer to Kevin Faulk.

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) -League MVP Shaun Alexander cracked a bone in his sore left foot and will be lost to the Seattle Seahawks for at least a couple of weeks.

Alexander has had soreness and a bone bruise in his left foot since the season opener at Detroit. Coach Mike Holmgren said Monday that Alexander cracked a bone sometime during Sunday's 42-30 win over the New York Giants. Holmgren said the bruise in Alexander's foot led to the crack and Alexander was walking around team headquarters Monday on crutches.

``You lose the MVP for a while, it's a hit,'' Holmgren said. ``Let's face it, he's the MVP. We're not going to sugarcoat it.''

Alexander has started 69 of the last 70 games for the Seahawks, but has yet to rush for more than 100 yards this season. He had just 47 yards on 20 carries on Sunday, and didn't play in the fourth quarter.

Last season, Alexander rushed for 1,880 yards and 27 touchdowns. Maurice Morris will start for Alexander when the Seahawks face Chicago next Sunday night.

He didn't look too great last week

If I'm a head coach and one of my players gets offered the cover of Madden, I would NOT let him take it.

I know this is going to cause a lot of SA owners to gnash their teeth...but...in terms of impact to the Seahawks (especially short term impact), I think a loss of Hasselbeck would be a much more severe blow than the loss of SA.

I havent been overly impressed with Moriss's skill set. Do the Hawks have anyone else who could challenge him for PT while Alexander recovers?
Not really. The guy that really could have challenged, Leonard Weaver, is on IR. Only other true RB on the squad is Josh Scobey.

Shaun down for at least 2 weeks...teams are going to tee off on the passing game, no?

Maybe MoMo can find some room to run...not a good situation.

Hey, trade Branch to New England for Dillon! :D :P

I think MoMo is going to step up and be very effective. Maybe not against the bears but starting in week 6 (assuming SA is still out).

BTW, this is not the madden curse, this is the SA has had almost 800 touches in the past 2 seasons curse. Anyone would break down under the weight of that load. Surprised it's not a back injury because SA has been carrying the team for so long.
