Seahawks practice: Hasselback/Shaun (1 Viewer)

It sounds like from Holmgrens conference that Shaun will not play much if nothing at all, but Hasselback has a better shot right now.

He said he would know a lot more on Friday its too early to tell.

That's backwards. SA will play, Hasselbeck will most likely sit due to the knee being very sore after practice this week.

Really I heard Holmgren say that Shaun Will play but will be very limited, so you may want to double check that. Its to early right now to know for sure, but if I was a SA owner and had better options I would go with that over SA.

Any news on Hasselbeck? On the Best Damn Show yesterday he said he was ready, but wasn't sure if the coaches would let him play or not.

Alexander upgraded, role may be limited

Shaun Alexander - RB - SEA - Nov. 15 - 3:45 p.m. ET

Shaun Alexander (foot) was upgraded to questionable for Week 11, but Mike Holmgren cautioned that Alexander wouldn't play "the whole game" if he plays.

He'll test his foot at practice Wednesday. Alexander is expected to start against San Francisco this week if he suffers no setbacks. Seattle's offensive line has been playing better lately, so we'd have a hard time benching Alexander against San Francisco even if he's splitting carries.Nov. 15 - 3:45 p.m. ET

Don't have the link but I also read that Hass' knee did not feel good after some drills on Monday, first time in cleats. The same article said that SA was looking good but that Hass was the more questionable of the two. Sorry again for no link.

The Seahawks have finished practicing. RB Shaun Alexander appeared to be full strength in his first practice since suffering a broken left foot two months ago. Alexander seemed comfortable running and changing direction. This is where we provide the usual disclaimer -- it all depends on how the foot responds tomorrow -- but it appears as though Alexander passed a significant hurdle in his return today.

I can't listen to it at work, but the article I was referring to was from Tuesday, referring to Monday's drills and backing up the poster that said SA was looking good but Hass seemed to haver a setback.. If it says Hass is doing well on Wednesday then that is great news. Can you give me the Reader's Digest version?

KFFL Breaking News

Alexander Likely to Start in Week 11

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports Seattle Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander (foot) will likely start in Week 11.

Hasselbeck Unlikely to Start in Week 11

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck (knee) is unlikely to start in Week 11.

Emailed to me at 6:50 pm

Shaun Alexander (questionable, foot) returned to practice fully Wednesday and "appears ready" to play Sunday at San Francisco.

His snaps and touches could be limited but he still seems likely to take all the goal-line carries. If he splits the load with Maurice Morris, it wouldn't be a surprise to see them get 15 carries apiece Sunday.

The possible limitation of time and the fact that the 9ers have not been bad against RB's worries me:

LT - 3.4 yds per carry (though 4 TDs! )

Kevin Jones - 3.4 yds per carry

Chester Taylor 3.7 yds per carry

Thomas Jones 4.8...

Hopefully TJ sets the bar for Shaun

Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck was back at practice on Wednesday. Hasselbeck favored his sprained right knee for part of the practice and was limping by the end of the 25 plays he ran with the scout team. He was sharp early on in practice. By the end, his deep passes were underthrown. His limp gradually became more prominent when carrying out fakes after handoffs. He also appeared to avoid planting on the leg while throwing. Hasselbeck said last weekend that doctors originally told him he'd miss four to six weeks, "and the 28th day is Sunday." "The big question would be just getting tackled and getting bent up in the bottom of a pile like a pretzel," he said. "I don't know how you plan for that. ... There's only one way to find out on that for real." He is listed as questionable for Week 11 at San Francisco.

Head coach Mike Holmgren added that because Hasselbeck can drop straight back and hand off, he could be the No. 2 quarterback behind fill-in starter Seneca Wallace on Sunday. "There is a chance ... he'll be active, because he can do most of the stuff," Holmgren said. Monitor Hasselbeck's progress for the coming week. If he is active, he is a very attractive start at the Niners in Week 11. If he doesn't play, Seneca Wallace would take his reps. We should know more by Friday.

Shaun Alexander (questionable) reportedly still has a crack in the fourth metatarsal of his injured foot.

"There is a chance...he'll be active," Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren said. "He can do most of the stuff." Despite returning to practice fully on Wednesday, Alexander is still clearly not fully healthy.
What the hell is all the flip flopping about? And why would Holmgren let me practice fully the rest of the week knowing this? I think that will be the key. Will Alexander practice fully again tomorrow? If so, I'd say he's a go!Guess we'll have to wait out the week.

The second half of that quote referred to Hasselbeck, not Alexander.

This is the source to follow for Alexander.

Shaun will play as they are out of the "diagnostic" questions and into the "how does it feel" questions - Shaun said he was ready to go two after the injury so he will say he can go. I think he will get 20 -25 carries against the 49ers as history shows it will probably be a pretty tight game.

Matt will not go. He couldn't transfer weight on any deep throws or any that needed more velocity in practice. The other question as to whether he could push off of that knee and get burst when trying to elude a tackle couldn't even be answered - so he won't play.

We will know by Sat., anything coming out of Seattle should be taken with a grain of salt. Who knows what Holmgren wants Nolan to believe.

Shaun Alexander practiced for the first time Wednesday since suffering his injury. He looked spry, running well during team drills and high-stepping and zig-zagging in individual drills. Alexander said he's excited to be back to practicing -- even though he's listed as questionable for Sunday's game at San Francisco -- but not anxious about being cleared. Coach Mike Holmgren will make that call Friday.

:goodposting: ESPN has SA starting at full capacity with Hass out for another week.

From today's (November 16) practice:

QB Matt Hasselbeck and RB Shaun Alexander practiced again. Hasselbeck seemed to gain some momentum as the practice progressed. Alexander was a bit limited, by design.

http://blogs.thenewstribune.com/seahawks/

I'm not sure I like the "a bit limited" part even if it was by design. I can see this translating on Sunday to "Alexander carried the ball 6 times to get his feet wet, by design."

Earlier (yesterday?) Alexander said if he was feeling good, he wanted 50 touches in practice on Friday. It will be interesting to see if he's still "limited" tomorrow.

All I can say is that Im not any closer to determining whether to start Morris or Alexander. Im lucky enough to have traded Mike Turner for Morris before the season began. These news reports are all flip flopping!! whats the damn truth?!

The question is How Limited?

In this case he was limited in order to ease him in and carefully evaluate. Not necessarily because he couldn't, but to make sure they didn't press!

From the interviews I've heard, and watching the news up here. My gut tells me SA is gonna split time with Morris and Hasselbeck is gonna be the no.2 QB this week.

I would look else where if you're looking for starters this week.
