Season tickets: how do they work? (1 Viewer)

Does the length of time you own season tickets impact the price you get?

Say two different owners, one for 20 years, another for 2 years. Assume the same section and same seats. Would the 20 year holder get a better price than the 2 year owner?

My buddy says yes, I've never heard of this practice.

Has you buddy had tickets for 20 years? I have had season tickets to basketball and football for varying amounts of time...the price always seemed to go up. The seats did get better though.

It depends on the team and it's policies. For a team that sells out and has a years-long waiting list there could be no difference at all. For a team trying to build a season-ticket holder base they might do this or offer perks and bonuses based on seniority.

It might change team to team. But I split season tickets for the Rangers and all seats in a section are the same price. The guy who has been there longer does get a larger percentage off in the team store though.

In my experience, no. Although, the current season ticket holder usually does get a little discount if they "upgrade" to a better section.

This used to happen with the Jaguars. People bought 3 year plans and you were locked into that price until you came up for renewal.

But now, it's all one year plans.

No. If there's teams doing this those teams are in the minority. Everybody pays the same. Full season ticket holders will pay less per ticket than a half season, and half season will pay less than quarter season ticket holders(if it's hockey, hoops, or baseball).

As everyone said this would be very rare. You may possibly have someone locked into a price over multiple years (3-5) but at the end of that contract they are re-upping at the same price everyone else is paying. In almost all cases the team seats a season ticket price for each price level and every season ticket holder in that price level pays the same price.

What your seniority does usually get you is better seats. Generally you have an opportunity each year to move your seats to a better location, something that has opened up because someone else didn't renew their seats. Teams with very strong fan bases and a recent string of success have less movement. This process is almost always done in the order the current ticket holders initially signed up.

The Seahawks have a "grandfather" rate that started a few years ago. I have 4 tickets that cost x, and 2 newer tickets that cost x+10ish. Just decided to start charging new tickets holders more one random season.

edit - the tickets are together

I only know Broncos. But prices are the same for everyone. You can get better seats with seniority though and the prices aren't a very sharp increase from upper level to lower level.
