Furrey started off in the XFL and the Arena league, where he played both offense and defense. He managed to land a job with the Rams in 2003 (where he was the #4 WR), but the Rams told him that he didn't have a future at WR. He offered to convert to safety and ended up leading the team in interceptions. But when Detroit came calling with an offer to go back to WR in 2006, he couldn't resist.
