Seattle S Boulware to be benched, Babineaux to replace (1 Viewer)

Coach Mike Holmgren confirmed that strong safety Jordan Babineaux will take over as the team's starter.Michael Boulware, who has made so many big plays to help the Seattle defense the last two years, could possibly get his job back later in the season. Babineaux is a good deep IDP league pickup in the meantime.Source: The News Tribune

Huge hits to two "8th man in the box" type safeties recently with Lewis and Boulware getting demoted/partially demoted.

So what is Jordan Babineaux fantasy outlook?
It'll be interesting to see. He's primarily played nickel cornerback and started a couple games at corner late in the 2005 season. He had very nice tackle stats in both games, though, which suggests his tacking and run support skills could be better than his scouting reports indicate. His experience at corner and coverage stats from last year suggest he could be just as good in the big play department as Boulware had been. My guess is he'll be as good, maybe a little better than Boulware. I'm wondering if Ken Hamlin, who's slightly bigger and a more polished hitter, may be used a little more frequently in run support despite being the "FS".Certainly worth a look if you're hurting at the DB position.

Boulware is not playing up to his ability. Was burnt on the Taylor 95 yarder last week. But ... I would be surprised if this is long term demotion. As for Babineaux, the Seattle LB core is as good as its been in years maybe ever. The SS numbers will not be as good as it has been in years past. Seatttle's D could log more minutes with key offensive people injured. WTS, I think Babineaux will score as good as Boulware or better.

Babineaux isn't in the FBG projections for this week. There are several Seattle db's listed, but he isn't one of them. I picked him up this week, and would like to play him, because my safety's suck. But FBG's are projecting no stats for him, and decent stats for Boulware. ??????

Norton does the first projections on Wednesdays and updates them on Fridays. I had a brief conversation with him late Wednesday night and he hadn't heard the news about Babineaux yet. I'd expect the updated projections to reflect the lineup change today.

Hamlin had a huge day, 10 solos, 1 assist, been putting up some solid numbers the past few wks
He's been putting up solid numbers all season. He's one of the top ranked DB's in my dynasty league which has been nice. Safety was a very weak spot for me all last season, especially after he got injured, but he's made it a strength this year, especially since McCree has played better for me the last few weeks after starting out abysmal.

Will Boulware see the field again this year? Thinking about dropping him
Boulware may have been a scapegoat. :D Last Week:Seattle D gave up over 500 yards total offense.Time of possesion was KC 42:15 / Seattle 17:45.A less than 100% backup QB passes for 312LJ rolled for a buck 55 and 3 scores.Appears its not just Boulware giving up big plays.Didn't see the game, cant comment on individual play.

Babineaux's tackling wasn't much better than Boulware's. Of course, a certain steamrolling Grandmama may have had something to do with that.

I do think Boulware was scapegoated. We'll see in the next week or 2.I also think RB Larry Johnson may have pulled off the greatest nickname heist ever from PF Larry Johnson...
