Seattle Times says its Broncos 1st (1 Viewer)

Seattle traded its second-round pick -- No. 37 overall -- to Denver in exchange for the Broncos' first-round pick in 2010. The Broncos have two first-round picks next year, one originally belonging to Chicago. Denver acquired the Bears' first-round pick as part of the Jay Cutler trade. Seattle acquired the first-round pick that belongs to Denver.

like i said in the Broncos thread

from your keyboard to the football gods ears.........i hope that's right.

if that's the case, then its not that bad to get Smith for what will be a 21-25 pick

sorry i meant that when it was reported it was Chicago's 1st....... Denver's 1st is going to be pretty high.

I cannot believe Denver would do this...

I predicted Mcdaniels would go 17-31 and then get canned.. now I'm thinking he'll be gone after his 2nd season.

Unfortunately, it'll take another 5 to do undo the damage he's doing here. At least they had something to build around when he got there.

The Denver Broncos gave up their first round pick in 2010 for Seattle's 37th pick in the second round. The Broncos still have their second round pick.

Denver still has Chicago's first round pick next year from the Jay Cutler trade, but it's interesting that they felt Wake Forest cornerback Alphonso Smith was good enough to make that move.

Hey Pat Bowlen, you still think hiring young head coaches is the way to go?

This has to be the most mismanaged draft since...well, I guess the Raiders weren't much better. At least they didn't trade a probable top 10 pick for a second rounder...

Isn't the Bears first round pick going to be more valuable next year than Denver's first round pick? High rookie salary and all....

Really? It'll take him 5 years to undo damage done from taking the wrong player in the draft... or trading out of next years first rounder...? 5 years...... :goodposting:

FROM www.NFL.com

Seahawks receive:

» 2010 first-round pick

Broncos receive:

» 2009 second-round pick (No. 37): CB Alphonso Smith

Analysis: NFL Network analysts Charley Casserly, Mike Mayock and Michael Lombardi are in agreement on this trade: Smith is not worth next year's first round pick. They think the price is too high for a cornerback who is only 5-foot-9 with questionable speed. "It’s a little dangerous to trade away next year’s one," Lombardi said. "You’re taking a chance, especially on a corner, and a small corner at that. That bothers me." The Seahawks will receive the Broncos' natural pick in 2010 and not the one acquired from the Bears for Cutler.

I wondered how many Pro Bowl defensive backs are 5'9" or shorter. I did a quick check of all defensive backs drafted since 2000 who have made one pro bowl in their careers. Of the 24, only Terrence McGee and Bob Sanders appear on the list. Bob Sanders is a safety, of course, and he ran a predraft 4.35.

Perhaps Alphonso Smith will be the next Terrence McGee, but I struggle to imagine him lined up against Vincent Jackson or Dwayne Bowe. The guy is going to be 2/3rds of a foot shorter than Vincent Jackson.

DJ Moore is in the same boat. He's short and he didn't run an eye-popping time. The league is filled with guys with stats like these. You can have him as the number 1 DB on your board, but if the draft class is weak at that position, and the season starts and the guy you drafted gets manhandled and run past, I just don't know how that ranking helps the ballclub.

 This seems a very Patriot-like move.
No it doesn't. If you are saying the Seahawks are very Patriot-like, I agree. The Broncos trade Cutler away for these valuable first round picks, then act like the picks have no value by trading the first next year for a second this year to take a questionable player. The high picks in the first round still can be traded down. Look what Cleveland did. They traded down three times. They turned the number five pick in to a bunch of picks later. The Bears will probably have a pick in the 20's anyway. The Broncos will probably be in the top ten, if not the top five. Not to mention, I think the NFL is going to change rookie compensation soon, perhaps by next year. If they institute a rookie pay scale the top picks become much more valuable.
