Seeking thoughts on the following defensive guys (1 Viewer)

Just thought I'd post to see what the IDP community thinks of the following guys.

Ernie Sims - Once a future stud......Does he still have value?

Matt Shaugnessy - Now that the Raiders have Wimbley is there a role for this guy who they seemed to rate reasonably highly before the Wimbley signing.

Tavares Gooden - Has he dropped so far down the pecking order that he now has no value?

Julian Peterson - I may have missed something but isn't he now a FA? Surely too good to not be a starter somewhere?

Kawika Mitchell - How does the move to a 3-4 help or hinder him? Not elite skills but always seems to be a decent playmaker.

Any feedback appreciated.

Cheers

Ernie Sims-no value

Matt Shaugnessy -value, might take a couple years

Tavares Gooden -no value

Julian Peterson - minimal value

Kawika Mitchell - minimal value

Can do better hitting the waiver wirer for all IMO.

Ernie Sims - Once a future stud......Does he still have value?

There's a possibility that Sims regains some value, but the majority of his original hype was tied to his expected ability to get from sideline-to-sideline and make impact plays in the then Detroit Tampa-2. The scheme is less favorable now and Sims has never translated his speed into consistent pay on the field. His durability has also been an issue. He still projects as an every-down player (though things may change depending on how the nickel DE situation plays out), so he may have value as a depth LB4/LB5. I don't see him hitting 80+ solos or putting up enough coverage stats to have any real impact.

Matt Shaugnessy - Now that the Raiders have Wimbley is there a role for this guy who they seemed to rate reasonably highly before the Wimbley signing.

For now, Shaughnessy looks like he could be in line for 60-70% of his team's snaps. Wimbley and Scott seem locked in at OLB. There are a bunch of wild cards left in the deck here, though. Shaughnessy has to prove he can hold up in an expanded role. He may see competition from Scott (and Wimbley) for a nickel pass rushing role. The Raiders may yet decide to move Wimbley back to end, though that seems unlikely. And there remains a strong possibility that the Raiders may take a prospect early in the draft. For now, Shaughnessy looks like a solid DL3/DL4 with upside.

Tavares Gooden - Has he dropped so far down the pecking order that he now has no value?

Dannell Ellerbee should enter camp with a sizable advantage on Gooden to start at ILB. I think Gooden may work back into the subpackages, but he's not been strong enough against the run to beat out Ellerbee. He probably deserves a spot on the "go get him if someone's injured and he earns more playing time" list.

Julian Peterson - I may have missed something but isn't he now a FA? Surely too good to not be a starter somewhere?

Still likely the starting LOLB in Detroit. It's not entirely clear how third downs will work out with the recent DE signings, but Peterson probably won't have much value except in deeper big play leagues.

Kawika Mitchell - How does the move to a 3-4 help or hinder him? Not elite skills but always seems to be a decent playmaker.

The move to a 3-4 won't hurt him. He's still a decent tackler with questionable every-down skills. What will hurt him is the signing of Andra Davis, who's probably a better fit for the SILB spot anyway.
