Sell High: Calvin Johnson (1 Viewer)

So what happened to Stanton? Everyone is assuming Culpepper is taking over. Detroit is down to no QBs so isnt it possible Culpepper was signed just out of desperation to have a back up. Stanton will start this week and if he performs he will probably continue to start until Orlovsky returns or he screws up too bad. BTW I offered Calvin for Lynch. The Roddy owner wasnt interested in Calvin, I assume the Boldin and Fitz owner wouldnt be either. I dont see a sell high scenerio happening with him myself.
The Lions staff have said under no circumstances do they want Stanton to see the field this year. The words, "we don't want him to embarrass himself" were used. Sorry, no link. I heard it on ESPN radio last Sunday morning driving home from work.
So what's the point of the Lions rostering the guy then??
That's a great question, and I'm afraid it only illustrates the ineptness of the Lions' drafting ability. Stanton may only be on the roster because he was a 2nd round pick. (High 2nd round, BTW.) My guess is that he'll soon join the long list of Lions draft busts that includes Joey Harrington, Charles Rogers, Mike Williams, Teddy Lehman, Boss Bailey, Kalimba Edwards, Stockar McDougle, Barrett Green, etc. (Those are all 1st or 2nd round picks since 2000.) :thanks: The local radio stations in Detroit, 1130 and 97.1, both reported that Culpepper took about 75% of the snaps with the first team offense today. (Wednesday) This is a pretty clear sign that Stanton will not be starting against Jacksonville.

As a Stanton dynasty owner, ya got me. I have no idea. I'm just the messenger.

I thought Stanton looked pretty good in preseason. I dont see how he could be a mile worse than than Orlovsky, or Culpepper. I have to believe that Lions fans want to see him in some game action before the 09 NFL draft

Haven't seen many lions games live but it seems like CJ's routes aren't really timing route and more of speed routes where he goes down field or gets a release over the middle. I would think McDonald and Furrey are the ones who really need to get the timing down.

He performed well with Kitna and then performed well with DanO, I am going to follow the trend here until he is forced to QB and has to throw it to himself, then I might consider selling.

The 2 catches for 154 yds was pure luck.
:goodposting:
I watched the game AND started him on my FF roster that game. If the defense hadn't decided to give him the hail mary at the end of the half and gang tackle him, he would have had one good catch all day (thanks to being down 28-10). He's in the same category as Randy Moss and T.O. right now, but he just happens to be on the fortunate side- that can change very quickly and without warning. That's not a player I'm comfortable with long-term.

But you're talking about it as though that's something that will change, the Lions being down 28-10. That was just a fluke and it's the only reason Calvin caught that bomb. In my eyes the Lions have many more games on the horizon they can expect to be down 28-10. And in theory, they should continue heaving it to Calvin in those situations. Now if Reggie Williams had that kind of game...ya got me. That's a fluke. The Lions defense will have them playing from far behind all year.Calvin is talented enough to turn a catch into a TD on any play. Those are the facts and they are indisputable.

What's indisputable is that if he was the second coming of Jerry Rice, I'd have no problems moving him. The best offer I've been given is TJ Housh (and that's from an over-the-top Lions fan). Clearly I'm not alone feeling this way about this guy.

Then don't sell him dude. I don't care. Housh is a solid player - He's only #1 in the NFL in receptions and the 4th best WR in high-performance formats. It can't work both ways. You can't say "the guy sucks" and then be offended when someone offers a legit #1 WR to you in return.Well, on second thought I guess you can.

My prediction was that Culpepper wouldn't help Calvin continue his pace for 1400+ yds 12tds.

FBG prediction: 80yds 0.6td

Season Average: 85yds .75td

There is a chance for fools gold this week vs the Jags weak defense. FBG is predicting a slight downgrade to his average. Ill be eager to see the results of the game.
