Senior Bowl Day Two Notes - North (1 Viewer)

Notes Reflect Combined Observations of Bloom and Cecil Lammey

QB

Tyler Palko, Pitt - gritty, improvisational, good vision while scrambling, poor mechanics, really has to wind up to throw deep ball, poor arm strength on deep ball, accuracy wanes because of windup, underthrowing more than on target (weak arm), arm seems to tire as practice goes on

Troy Smith, tOSU - over the top delivery makes him taller, consistent over the top delivery even on run, beautiful easily catchable arcing deep ball, good zip on short passes, confident decisive reads, command/leadership at line of scrimmage, built like RB but not stiff, mobile, keeps head downfield when scrambling, holds ball in good throwing position while scrambling, good pocket awareness, have not seen a batted pass in two days

Drew Stanton, Mich St - looks the part, nice quick release/compact throwing motion, VERY athletic, inconsistent accuracy, cool under pressure, flutter on the deep pass, good zip on underneath routes, tripped up once in drop back from LoS.

RB

Brian Leonard, Rutgers - tremendous hands, very professional polished football player, willing inside runner, but not as powerful as typical FB running inside, good read of blocks, very coachable, good demeanor, good listener, better stamina than most players, versatile offensive weapon

Tony Hunt, Penn St - too upright, average quickness, below average burst, doesn't seem enthused to be at Senior Bowl (maybe overwhelmed?), stopped at or behind LoS several times, good one step cut on off tackle run on his best play of the day* (*-Booker would have busted it long, Hunt got five yards), not as impressive in blitz pickup as you would expect

Kolby Smith, Louisville - no wasted movement or energy, efficient runner, forward lean, decent burst, runs behind his pads with a good pad level, above average receiver, but did make two bobbles, unlike his almost flawless Monday as a receiver, when its not there, he moves the pile, bulls into pile, keeps feet going

Garrett Wolfe, NIU - hurt, will be replaced Jon Cornish (kansas)

WR

David Clowney, Va Tech - Hands improved tremendously today, deep speed very apparent, didn't seem as slight or small today, will be best used when he can release from LoS in motion.

Aundrae Allison, East Carolina - almost flawless hands and routes today, very crisp in his routes, vast improvement from first day

Jason Hill, Wash St - smooth athlete, good hands, deep speed is not there, catches everything

Rhema McKnight, Notre Dame - hands let him down today, not as consistent as Monday, still coaching players on the field (like 2005, a player-coach), still ran good routes, just didn't complete it with the catch every time today

Brandon Myles, WVU - very athletic, great full extension catches, caught everything, great concentration, great hand strength plucking the ball out of the air, immediately tucked ball instinctively to secure it

Paul Williams, Fresno St - down day, effort/concentration/focus seems to be wavering, dropped a fade pass, which should be his signature route with his long arms and strength, still blending in instead of standing out as he did in the Shrine Game practices

OL/Defense

Stewart Bradley, LB, Nebraska - great in pass rush and in coverage, big enough to play 3-4 OLB, standout of the North OLBs

Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska - making plays with a mean streak just like Monday

Doug Datish, C, tOSU - good punch springing out of his stance

Clark Harris, TE, Rutgers - hurt, replaced by Ben Patrick, Delaware

James Marten, OT, Boston College - Got in scrap with David Patterson, clearly gets under skin of defenders

Marcus McCauley, CB, Fresno St - Improving from poor day one performance, but still not standing out like Hall or Hughes

Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville - Very quick, but doesn't play low enough to be NT

Eric Weddle, DB, Utah - Hill got some separation on him, and looked slow compared to other DBs

Josh Wilson, DB, Maryland - Game speed is very apparent

Marshall Yanda, OL, Iowa - very skinny lower body, hard to picture him holding up at point of attack without bulking up legs
