setting up Divisions... (1 Viewer)

I am interested in setting up divisions for the first time in my head-to-head leagues (dyansty league, 2-person keeper league).

1. What advantages do you see with divisions?

2. Do you change the divisions up each year to keep them balanced?

3. How do you change the divisions each year?

4. What type of playoff criteria do you have with divisions?

Thanks.

1. What advantages do you see with divisions? I PEROSNALLY DONT LIKE THEM I USE JUST ONE MAKES THINGS EASIER

2. Do you change the divisions up each year to keep them balanced? do it based on draft order odd and even 1,3,5,7,9, ,2,4,6,8,10

3. How do you change the divisions each year?see answer to two

4. What type of playoff criteria do you have with divisions? top in each division and best two records from remaining 8 teams

Thanks.

1. What advantages do you see with divisions?None.

2. Do you change the divisions up each year to keep them balanced?no.

3. How do you change the divisions each year?If i were in a league that wanted change id more than likely have it something like 1-4, 5-8 and 9-12.. ( Based on final record )

4. What type of playoff criteria do you have with divisions? 16 team league 4 division winners 2 wilcards. Top 2 division winners bye week 14.

Thanks.

We do a lottery type pick to see where we draft every year based on our final standings from the year before. From that, we go (12 teams, 3 divisions) 1,4,7, 10 then 2,5,8,11 and 3,6,9,12. Hth.

On draft day, each owner picks an envelope from two piles. One has a number in it. That is his draft position. The second has a letter in it. That determines his division. A-D is one division, E-H is another, I-L is the third.

In a dynasty draft, I would set divisions (random selection) and keep them. That way, a team gets to form some inter-divisional rivalries that will have, theoretically, the same types of ebbs and flows as real-life NFL divisional rivalries, where Team A might dominate Team B over the course of a few years, but eventually, Team B might overtake Team A and have a couple years where he's the lead dog. It's good for the league as a whole, IMO.

I do an auction draft for my only "redraft", so draft order is a non-issue, but we randomly draw divisions each year.

For serpentine draft redrafts, I would recommend the suggestion that tls01 gave above...

Redraft League. 10 teams, 2 divisions.

Names are pulled out of a hat to determine draft order. Starting at #10 and the last name remaining is #1.

Names are then put back into the hat. First name pulled is NFC. Second name is AFC. Third is NFC. Fourth is AFC. and so on.

Division winners get byes. Next 4 best records regardless of division get the 4 wildcards, seeded 3-6 based on record and tie breakers. Division winner with the best record or tie breaker plays the lowest advancing seed. Other division winner gets the other wildcard winner. The 2 who advance from there play in the Super Bowl.

They create rivalries especially when you should be playing division foes twice a year
NEVER ~ does the NFL?
See #2
All division winners plus 1 wildcard or 3 wildcards depending on how many playoff teams you want

we are a re-draft league and just use even and odd numbered teams.

10 team league

2, five team divisons

play your division opponents 2x, other divison once

top 2 in each division make the playoffs, regardless of record. this insures the same strength of schedule as the other teams in your division.

playoffs are weeks 14&15

seed based on record

We set up divisions for the dynasty league we started 4 years ago. Everyone was pretty timid about it at the time but now everyone absolutely LOVES it. Fantasy football rivalries are most definitely a real thing, and it has really added a lot of excitement to the league. It's fun to see teams be unwilling to trade with a division rival for fear of improving that player's team and to see them bid on players that they don't need that badly just to try and keep them from their division rival that has a hole there.

We have not changed divisions yet, nor do we plan to. That would ruin the rivalries. I suppose if things got really unbalanced you could think about it but in our league we've had the same number of playoff teams from each division every year except one, which is pretty remarkable.

We use the same playoff criteria as the NFL with our divisions, that is that the division winners automatically make the playoffs and get the highest playoff seeds, with the wildcard teams getting lower seeds even if they have a better record.

1. What advantages do you see with divisions? As stated above, RIVALRIES is a big reason to establish divisions within a fantasy football league. A dynasty league is probably easier to get folks to agree upon the initial set-up for an indefinite period of time. From my own experiences, it was difficult to establish division alliances in my keeper league, but this was mainly due to league expansion during years 2 & 3 (8-10-12 teams, years 1 through 3). Year 4 new division alignments were picked from a hat because guys got upset that divisions had become unbalanced (and thus unfair.)

2. Do you change the divisions up each year to keep them balanced? No, and Yes. At the beginning of year 5 we established a “division alignment policy” that dictates how divisions are aligned and how often this event occurs.

3. How do you change the divisions each year? Our policy basically states that every 3 years the divisions will be re-aligned according to each teams total regular season win/loss record for the previous 3 years. Division A: Rank 1, 4, 7, 10. Division B: 2, 5, 8, 11. Division C: 3, 6, 9, 12. Every 3 years the process is repeated.

4. What type of playoff criteria do you have with divisions? Two best division records get seeds 1 & 2 and a BYE in week15. Seed 3 is the other Division winner. Seeds 4, 5 & 6 are the next 3 best records of the remaining teams. Week 15: Seed #3 plays # 6 and #4 plays #5 in Wildcard Round. Week 16: #1 vs. lowest remaining and #2 vs. other in Divisional Round. Week 17: Championship and Consolation Bowls (as well as a Basement Bowl.)

Rody

Forgot about that   Don't think I have made an in-division trade ever in my Dynasties..one is entering year 5 and the other year 7

In our dynasty league we did a random draw for divisions the first year, then we decided that the last place team in each division moves to the next one. This gives us some change every year and also the teams that have to move feel shame.

 Shame is great for ff.In my 16-team league, four different owners on an annual rotating basis hold a draft for the remaining teams. This generally serves to promote rivalries while still shaking things up a little each year.
