Seven-round mock: Projecting every pick in 2012 NFL Draft

By Chad Reuter NFL.com

At this point in the pre-draft process, NFL teams must have a general idea how the entire draft will play out in order to determine how high they're willing to select players they think fit their system.

Note the phrase "general idea" -- accurately predicting team-player pairings is nearly impossible, due to trades and the wide variance in grades different teams apply to players. Although teams' top-50 prospects might be similar, the rest of their boards can look quite different because each general manager and head coach looks for different attributes in a player.

Teams don't treat the draft like a grocery list, picking a player to fill their most desperate need in the first round, their next biggest need in the second round, and so on. Value at each pick dictates how the draft goes and how teams try to fill gaps on the rosters.

Despite those pitfalls, the following seven-round mock draft still attempts to put a face (and name) to each selection, with a quick explanation for picks in the first four rounds -- the range in which most of the league's starters were once drafted into service. So just have fun examining one man's preview of the 77th installment of the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting -- otherwise known as the 2012 NFL Draft.

Click here for a team-by-team summary of picks from all seven rounds.
I may post the entire seven-round mock in here a little later, but for now here is the link (if you are not tired of all of the mock drafts by now!)

Cool, but I find it untenable that the Bengals would pass on DeCastro in favor of Coples at #17. More amazing I think is that he has Cordy Glenn as the first O-lineman off the board as he's been frequently mocked to the Bengals at #21.Still love the 7-round mocks, Walter Football does 'em as well. Be fun to see what the batting average ends up being on these.

Don't know if it would be in favor of Coples, but this blurb gives credence to them skipping DeCastro:
Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer insists that the Bengals will not draft a guard with the No. 17 overall pick.Reedy nailed the Bengals' 2011 draft strategy, adamant that they'd take A.J. Green at No. 4 overall and a quarterback at the top of the second round. They did exactly that. Guard is a need area for Cincinnati this offseason, but it sounds like Stanford OG David DeCastro will not be a consideration with that pick. Reedy lists Michael Floyd, Mark Barron, Melvin Ingram, Quinton Coples, and Michael Brockers as the likeliest targets at No. 17.

I don't think it's a lock that DeCastro will even be on the board at 17.

KC at 11 may be a legitimate landing spot for him.

That would be a terrific draft for the Vikings.

1 (3) Matt Kalil, OT, USC

2 (35) Rueben Randle, WR, LSU

3 (66) Jayron Hosley, CB, Virginia Tech

4 (98) Terrell Manning, LB, North Carolina State

4 (128) Marcus Forston, DT, Miami

4 (134) Adam Gettis, OG, Iowa

5 (138) Phillip Thomas, FS, Syracuse

6 (175) Audie Cole, LB, North Carolina State

7 (210) Mike Harris, CB, Florida State

7 (223) Dale Moss, WR, South Dakota State

I thought the same thing when I had a quick glance over the team by team draft breakdown. I don't think that Dale Moss will last until the 7th round based on what I am hearing now
