SF Giants, Your 2014 World Series Champs! (1 Viewer)

He was great. But for a 7 game series, this one strangely lacked any real drama. Most of the games were decided early.
You know except for game 7 that was a 1 run game for the last 5 innings which were pitched by the guy that already started 2 games in the series.

But yea, no drama.

And the almost 2 out bottom of the 9th inside the park homerun in game 7
Well I mean he didn't get it so not much drama right?

They should have sent Gordon home on the bobbled OF play in the ninth. Even if he gets thrown out the way MB was dealing it was the right call with two outs.

Only way he's safe is if Crawford sails the throw. Gordon would have been 20 feet up the line when the ball got there.

I thought the same thing. He's out by a mile with a decent throw home, but crazy things can happen.

Question is whether they happen more often than the next guy getting a hit or a wild pitch or passed ball. Answer is almost certainly no.

Bumgarner pitched great, but did anyone else feel like the ump was giving him about a 48 square foot strike zone? Gotta believe that Ned should have been out there early and pitched a #####.
Pitchinfo charts from Brooks show two pitches called strikes for SF that would be outsize the typical zone, with a few more on the edge. And that's for all pitchers, not just Bumgarner.

It actually looks like KC got more of the benefit in calls especially against LHH.

I liked looking at Perez's last AB vs MB. One of the balls is so high its in the header trying to escape the graphic.

So close to being the ideal ending to the season this year - a potential contact play at the plate involving Posey.

The Royals were swinging at everything Bum was putting up there. That tends to widen the zone a bit. None of the pitches thrown to the last guy up to bat were in the strike zone.

Yeah this. I was waiting for that stupid plate blocking rule to rear its ugly head at some point.

I honestly thing we just saw the ending of two things which are the pinnacle of each particular feat.

1. The greatest postseason pitching performance by a single pitcher.

2. The greatest complete season by a relief pitcher ever.
Lew Burdette would disagree with you

Name G GS ERA W L SV CG IP H R ER BB SO WHIP

Lew Burdette 3 3 0.67 3 0 0 3 27.0 21 2 2 4 13 0.926

Yes that's 3 complete games with an ERA of 0.67

MadBum had the most dominant postseason pitching performance since Orel Hershiser.

But seeing any team win 3 out of 5 is never good. That's just too much.

Oh yeah, 49ers since I live in SF Bay Area.
I think I speak for all 49ers fans when I kindly request that you leave us the #### alone. TIA.
...or we'll bust your head on the bathroom floor
I'm old enough to remember when the prevailing stereotype was that we were all effete wine-sippers. Good to see things finally starting to flip.
I dunno, Wingnut was giving me hell for drinking Miller High Life in the beer thread. Of course High Life doesn't go well with Blue Cheese, Nut. Odd that a dude who lives in Tampa tries to give lessons on class.

I went to a ####ty little hole in the wall in San Rafael last night, guy walks in wearing a niners jersey and orders a High life and a shot of bushmills. He throws down his 5 dollars, slams them both and then walks on out with the bartender saying "see you tomorrow Jimmy"

Aldon Smith?

I'm sure lots of fans are calling in "sick" today... Coverage is on 2 channels, 2 and 5. Just find it amusing that we can't remember any significant rain all year long and we can always count on Halloween for rain. 3rd year in a row now!

Crowds near the start of the route are smaller than 2012 but the on again off again rain is a factor.

Did you see Bum's face when he did the 3 questions thing? The first one if he's a man or machine and Mad is shaking his head like how stupid...

Not as much anymore it seems... and fans seem to still love him. I think he'll get in but not for a long time still.

CSNBA, local channel, showing the celeb again. Just flipped through and saw Barry Bonds standing. Man he is deflated, as in almost skinny! Showing much more than live. Interviews and inside the hall with players... pretty sweet.

No worries. Tubby Francesa has decreed that the Giants do NOT have a dynasty! 3 in 5 years? Sure. But they didn't win back-to-back titles, which is the unwritten dynastic criteria, evidently.

Where is it written that dynasty has to be back to back? I believe it's been since the 40's for a team to really shine like this.

Cool, now I've gotta go to bed knowing I've agreed with Francesa on something.

I think the last sports dynasty was the Chicago Bulls, or as my buddy Isiah likes to to call them, the "Chicago Booz." I don't think it's possible in baseball with this many rounds of playoffs.

...and how long the season is. Posey said he was beat. NBA has 82 reg season games, baseball 162. Then as you say, the playoffs. Grueling, which makes the GFs even more awesome with their 3 games in the past 5 years wins.

No, you missed my point.

Any baseball team, even a great team, is a pretty massive underdog to win the WS at the beginning of the playoffs. Even with full home-field advantage, the chances of winning three series are around 5/1, 6/1 at best. Baseball having a "weak cap" would make it a good candidate to have "dynasties", but the playoffs level the field. A good NFL team has a better chance of getting through the playoffs, but the fairly hard cap makes it tough to stay at the top and easy to get off the bottom. Seattle's already starting to come apart, and soon they're not going to have the (massive) advantage of Sherman and Wilson et. al. not playing for peanuts.

Pucks playoffs are tough, too. College football has a razor-thin margin for error, and teams turnover quickly. College hoops has a lotto wheel for a tournament AND even more team turnover.

I think the NBA offers the best possibility at the moment. Fewer upsets in the playoffs, and the best players can always get more money from their own team. Miami rolling off four straight Eastern titles (and two NBA championships), is impressive stuff, even in the #### East. Maybe Cleveland gets there.

Celtics in the 60's, UCLA in the 70's. Bulls in the 90's. Lakers and Celtics canceled each other out in the 80's, IMO. But ultimately it's wholly subjective and not really meaningful.
