Shanahan could be introduced Tuesday

Mike Shanahan is expected to be named head coach of the Redskins, according to sources in the organization, and, barring unforeseen glitches, will likely be introduced in a news conference Tuesday.

That timeline makes sense, they said, because new General Manager Bruce Allen last week told people in the organization that the unsettled situation surrounding the Redskins' top coaching position likely would be completely resolved by Tuesday.

Shanahan arrived this afternoon, his flight from Colorado landing at Dulles at around 3 p.m., about 12 hours after Jim Zorn's two-year tenure ended.

As we previously reported, Allen instructed assistant coaches to begin completing their season-ending evaluations of players. Allen will provide Shanahan with the forms, the sources said, in an effort to help Shanahan get up to speed on the roster as soon as possible.

Several of Zorn's assistants are under contract for the 2010 season, but the staff will undergo sweeping change, according to a league source familiar with Shanahan's plans. What remains unclear is whether Shanahan will have the dual title of team president and coach, as Joe Gibbs did in his second stint with the Redskins under owner Daniel Snyder.

Regardless of titles, though, Shanahan is expected to have significant input in player-personnel decisions. Allen is an adept football administrator and a salary-cap expert, league sources said, but he is not considered as strong in evaluating talent.
I apologize if this is Honda

I hope this works out for the Skins . How many coaches passed through there in last decade?

I recall Gibbs, Spurrier, Zorn, and, was there more ?

coaches follow the money...why on earth would Parcells , or anyone for that matter, go coach for Jerry Jones? for (big) money. Why would Spurrier come out of college football, where he was a god, to coach the Redskins? money.

and you have an owner not afraid to spend money on players..

Al Davis doesn't pay coaches, that's for sure..

Redskins also had Marty Shots and Norv Turner

Zorn went to DC to coach simply because it was one of the only places he was offered a head coaching job.

how long before Zorn is announced as OC of the Browns, now with Holmgren as the GM?

I would expect Shanahan to be named HC on Wednesday since Bugel is offically retiring today and his retirement presser is scheduled for today.

They interview a black guy yet?
Hilarious. I was wondering same thing... Don't you think if you were black it would be downright humiliating to be "the guy" picked for your token interview? I understand the rule and its purpose. I think its purpose is useful, but in a case like this with a Shanahan signing, to have to follow the rule is just making a mockery of the black guys they interview...

You guys follow the NFL much?

They interview a black guy yet?
Jerry Gray. There's a whole thread somewhere trying to dismiss him as a token whore if you're interested in piling on a qualified guy. His resume's in the thread too.
Decent enough resume, although I can see wanting Shanahan over him.
I agree. Gray's the only other guy they've interviewed as far as I know, so if the Shanahan negotiations break down Gray's a legit candidate. And there's always the chance the negotiations could break down over the issues of control of personnel, scope of authority, etc. Money's no problem with Snyder, but those things are, and Shanahan's as strong-willed as he is.
