Shanahan in Dallas...seems like a perfect fit, yes/no? (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

Mike already wants to come back and try to win another SB, go out on his terms, let's face it; he didn't want to go out of Denver being fired, that was embarrassing for him.

A coach like SHanahan is not going to want to go to where the cupboard is bare. In Dallas he has a beavy of RB he can use, Romo is as good as Cutler in some respects, the defense is oodles better than what he has/had in Denver. There might be a conflict with Jerry Jones, but if SHanahan is looking for a 5 seasons or lesss tenure, one where he will have a lot of pieces in place before he tkaes the reigns, could he ask for more than hat is in Dallas?

Jones could easily give him a couple of weeks to velar his head, move Wade to DC, make SHanny the HC, let Garrett go as I think he was mildly exposed this season so why not let him sign with another team?

I can't see where this would be a bad marriage.

When I saw he was fired, that was my exact thought process. This would be an ideal fit. The only problem, as usual, is JJ. His ego would never allow for it. If the Cowboys hired Shanny and won a Super Bowl, that jealous little twerp would whine and complain that he didn't get enough credit. JJ only wants to win if HE is seen as the messiah. That's why he consistently hires passive, subservient coaches

It does make a lot of sense....only thing is, has Shanny said he would only be looking for a short term gig? I suppose even if he wasn't Dallas would still be a good fit, also, I can't see them demoting Wade, has that ever happened before?

Although I think Shanny would be a good type of HC that Dallas needs at this time(demanding, accountability), I don't see it happening.

As other posters have stated, Shanny's offense is different from what Dallas has currently. Specifically, the O line.

We have a team built for running the ball straight ahead power blocking. Denver has typically undersized quicker linemen, which does not describe Dallas. Now can Shanny come in and change his style to that of the Dallas? These lineman are locked up for several years, so we're not dumping them anytime soon.

FBG experts chime in here on the type of offenses each team runs, play calling, terminology etc..

As other posters have stated, on defense he doesn't coach a 3-4, he's been a 4-3 coach. SO if you could envision a scenario in which Wade is demoted to DC and focuses just on defense, then maybe Jerry thinks it could work.

I don't know if Bill B. or Bill C. or Marty S. or anyone else out there has run a similar style offense to Dallas that could step in right away.

I wouldn't want to see the offensive players trying to learn a new system under a new coach, especially the O line.

Our defense should stay a 3-4 as it was built.

Jerry could keep Garrett and keep the consistency there. Let him mature some more as an OC and bring in a mentor as HC for him. Do a 2-3 year deal for a HC and let Garrett take over after that.

:stirspot: i'm convinced that JJ IS THE PROBLEM with the Cowboys. the Cowboys might win with things the way they are. but the cards are stacked against them. JJ needs to hire strong coaches/personnel and let them run the show. all JJ should be doing is signing checks. instead he's becoming more and more like Al Davis.i have a feeling Wade will lose this team, if he already hasn't. i dont see Wade being able to hold this thing together after this season's debacle.Shanny at HC and Wade to DC. keep Garrett at OC and he can learn some things from ratface. prolly wont happen, but who knows.

This is true, but the Parcells hire also shows that if he's desperate enough (like he was, in that case, after three 5-11 seasons) he'll higher a stronger figure. Still, Jones is the biggest obstacle to something like this happening, both because he still seems to be in denial about the role of his own shortcomings in causing the recent failure, and also because of his hands-on style and hunger for credit and the spotlight that would ultimately compete with his own head coach's ability to succeed going forward.

We all know that Jerry is going to do whatever it is that Jerry wants. And if he wants Shanny, it will happen. But that said, here's what I wrote in the Cowboy thread about Shanny to Dallas:

On the surface, this may seem really intriguing. The one big (literally and figuratively) problem that I see is the o-line. Shanny likes the 290 lb quick olinemen to run his zone blocking scheme. Outside of Kosier, all of Dallas' linemen are 325lb+ maulers. All locked up for 2 to 5 more years. Either Shanny would have to change his schemes to fit the linemen, or use the linemen in ways they aren't best suited. I do think the skill position players would be great for Shanny's schemes, especially Romo.

Then there's the defense. Dallas has 3-4 personnel. Shanny, as far as I know, has always run a 4-3. He'd have to bring in a coordinator to run the D. How's his relationship with Dom Capers?

Complicating things further is Shanny made the personnel decisions in Denver. How does that get worked out? Shanny is used to getting totally different types of players for the oline and the defensive front 7. Making these types of changes take years to implement. So either Dallas totally blows up what they have (highly unlikely), or Shanny has to learn/adapt new systems. That would be a tough thing to do.

As an Eagles fan, I would prefer Wade sticks around awhile longer. JJ is going to continue to stick his grubby fingers into everything, and I'm Ok with that. I hope TO sticks around awhile also. Let the cancer spread some more over the offseason and into next year. Please, please keep thinking that if you ignore it Jerry, it might go away.

It appears to me that of the coaches out there, wouldn't Brian Billick we a great candidate? He has a no nonsense attitude that would appeal to fans like myself looking for more accountability. Question is would he get along and work with Jerry?

He has a smash mouth offensive attitude combined with a tough defense. This puts less pressure on Romo and the WR's.

Tone down Romo and have the rushing setup the play action passing. IF we were to let Owens go, then you have Roy Williams/Austin to stretch the field and Witten and Crayton underneath. Seems like a good fit to me and a good formula.
