Shane Veeren OUT till Week 11 (Short-Term IR) (1 Viewer)

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports Shane Vereen is undergoing wrist surgery on Monday and will miss "a few weeks."
Vereen gutted out the injury against the Bills, but Monday's surgery will sideline him for what sounds like 2-3 games. Per Glazer, Vereen broke a "small bone" in the wrist on his first play of Sunday's win over Buffalo. He experienced "numbness" in the joint after the game because the cracked bone sits directly on a nerve. Look for Stevan Ridley to regain his feature back role and keep it for the remainder of the season. Fantasy owners should hold onto Vereen, whom the Patriots still want to use as their version of Darren Sproles.

Update!!!!!
Patriots placed RB Shane Vereen (wrist surgery) on injured reserve/designated to return.
Vereen was expected to miss only 2-3 weeks, but as usual with the Patriots, we didn't know the truth. Vereen won't be eligible to practice for six weeks, and can't return until Week 11 (New England is on bye in Week 10). It's a massive blow for an offense that's unusually short on playmakers as it waits for Rob Gronkowski to return. It also means Stevan Ridley could start getting some run on third downs, but Leon Washington is a candidate for passing-down snaps. Inexplicably, LeGarrette Blount now finds himself No. 2 on the depth chart, but that could change once Brandon Bolden (knee) returns. The Pats are likely in the market for veteran help. Vereen was primed for a fantasy breakout before going down. Put simply, it's a bummer.

If Branden Bolden is healthy, he would definitely get the Vereen reps.
I don't know about 'definitely' but that's my guess too. Ridley and Blount are both pretty poor as receivers IMO.

Of course Bolden was inactive with a knee injury himself. Not sure he'll be ready to go Thursday.

My issue isn't the time that he'll be missing. A couple weeks (although from what I'm reading from doctors, a 2-3 week timeframe is very generous) isn't that bad early in the year when most players are relatively healthy. If anything, he'll be back when other injuries start piling up.

My issue is that this is a Bill Bellichek team. Who knows what will go through his mind in the time Vereen is gone, and whether he'll have the same role in the offense when he returns?

Ridley owners rejoice. He's just been given a get out of jail free card.
Probably. But who knows? Bolden and Blount are both good enough that if the Pats are serious about sitting RBs for fumbles they could give those two a look and not lose a ton (if anything). Neither Ridley or Vereen are top tier backs to start with.

Even if Ridley gets the start again, it's time to sell him to someone who pas sticker value because of Vereens injury. The bigger risk is that Ridley will fumble again down the road and gets benched again, now you can get good value for him

It's football. It happens. Guys get injured. Lets be glad it's only for a few games! Meantime I'm sure you sharks have adequate flex replacements!

I have Gio Bernard and Chris Ivory lol

Bolden feels like the play here, but what's up with his injury? Anyone have any insight?

Toughest team to get clear injury info from in football...

It's peculiar that the Patriots re-signed Leon Washington prior to the Bills game, and then Vereen hurt his wrist allegedly on his first touch of that game. I wonder if Vereen may have been injured prior to the game, tried to gut it out given the Pats' limited weapons, and exacerbated the pre-existing injury during the game.
