Shannahan impressed with James Davis (1 Viewer)

"You never know how somebody's going to do until they actually play," said Shanahan. "But I like what I've seen in practice. He's handled himself very well, so hopefully he take advantage of his opportunity."

I grabbed him in my money league.

I now have Davis, Torain and Williams.

One of them has to be the featured back.

As soon as Shanny names him, he is my flex.

You guys are really over thinking this. James Davis is obviously going to get an "opportunity"... as he is going to be their #2 back this weekend. He will prob get a few plays... that's an opportunity.

For a sixth round pick that has career totals of 13 carries for 24 yards (1.8 yards per carry), this guy sure does get mentioned a lot on this site.

I'm not falling for the hype until I actually see something from this guy.

THIS :goodposting: Finally a voice of reason. James Davis was never worth talking about when he was a Brown, and he's still not worth it.

People were saying the same thing about Torain till he got hurt as well. Its playoff time and suprises do happen.

It is about opportunity as well as talent.

That 70 yard TD he had against Detroit in the preseason his rookie year is the main reason we still talk about him.

Long story short, if you have an open roster spot and want a deep sleeper rb, pick up James Davis, but he's probably worthless. Next thread...

list me shanahan's RBs this year and tell me either how you think he has a clue or how Davis isn't just "best of the rest"? I don't see anyway that Davis looks good now until he actually does it in a game and we see for ourselves.

But then it will be too late to grab him for free. If he's a btter gamble then the last guy on your roster, grab him. If you have two kickers or two non-stud Ds, grab him.

If you grab him now, he's cheap. You wait to see something from him and you are either in a bidding war, depending on waiver position or racing to the add/drop line. With injuries everywhere, I'm sure Davis is worth a stash in 12 team leagues that use flex players.

WHat you need to know is the full paragraph that that statment comes from. Then you will understand it fully. it starts "Rookie Keiland Williams is expected to handle the bulk of the load in the Redskins' running game on Sunday"

Without knowing the full paragraph it looks like they are saying Daivs will get alot of carries. But its saying Williams will get the bulk BUt hey will give a few carries to davis to see how he looks.Davis will get the "Opportunity" to be on the roster and back up williams. thats all. Now ofcourse if Williams gets 10-23 by half time who knows but that could go for any back. Dosent mean not to grab Davis as a speculative add. BUT unless Williams messes up davis will see very few carries. I rememeber 3 weeks ago the Texans saying that D Ward will get opportunities and has to touch the ball more. I think he got 5 carries since.

Here is the full paragraph

rookie Keiland Williams is expected to handle the bulk of the load in the Redskins' running game on Sunday, coaches also expect to take a close look at James Davis, who was activated from the practice squad earlier this week.

Davis has just 13 career carries - including four in Cleveland this season before the Browns released him - so even coaches aren't sure exactly what they'll get out of him.

"You never know how somebody's going to do until they actually play and get their opportunity," Shanahan said. "But I like what I've seen in practice. He's handled himself very well, so hopefully he'll take advantage of his opportunity."

I think in week #3 the Browns said they were going to give James Davis an "opportunity" too.

He had 4 carries for 9 yards, Peyton Hillis had 22 carries for 144 yards and then Davis was waived by the Browns a few weeks later. He didn't seize that "opportunity."

I really don't think James Davis is that good. Honestly, Shanahan's backfield this year has been pretty predictable and only injuries have effected things so far.

All the word opportunity means in football is that you will be active game day. Davis is getting an opportunity to be on the active roster for the first time. Nothing more, nothing less. Again doesnt mean that he will not have 2 goal line tds' or get 10-75 in carries or Williams will not get injured and Davis will have to carry the load. But again that can happen to every back up in the lague. you have as much as a chance if you pick up CJ Spiller or D Ward or Dixon on SF.

I dropped that POS Smith WR Carolina for him
I think you meant to say you dropped one of the best WRs in the league, in the worst QB/offensive situation in the entire league, for him.
No i meant POS, which is what he is!he is no longer a good WR in this league, certainly not good enough to play for me!
I have Smith rated about WR60, he's certainly worthy of a straight cut even in redraft and dynasty

thank you for posting this.OP should have alluded to this

I take it that you are new to fantasy football?
I've had it. I can't understand why people need to post "superior than thou" responses. What do you know about this guys team? I've got Javarris James sitting on my bench...what does that make me? Discuss.

I have been playing for 15 years, sorry to dissapoint you!
I don't think Mr. R was being snide...I think he was referring to the fact that you can never really trust Shanahan to stick w/ a "feature back." If Retukes was criticizing anyone, it was Shanny, IMO.

I think he was refering to the #1 rule of Fantasy. "You can never trust a Shanahan backfield". he is the bane of many a fantasy footballer. Even to the point it was referenced once he hates it. Some rumor he mentioned he loves to mess with the fantasy people but think that was just a rumor.

i don't know about this but this sounds like a poem.Very deep.
There's a lotta hype:What exactly has he shown?

Think I'll pass - for now
:penalty: Too many syllables. 15 yards, automatic first down.
Fixed. :bag:

Roses are red.

Violets are blue.

James Davis is active.

Nobody knows exactly what that means but we'll probably know later.

i agree... it sounded to me like a statement questioning the predictability of Shananhan's life-long RB hi-jinx, didn't take it as a diss at all.

Good to see Shanahan got an extra "n" thrown in his contract.

Considering the luck I've had picking up scrub RBs this season, I looked, but the guy leading my league has Davis stashed. *******.

Redskins | James Davis will see time Week 12

Washington Redskins RB James Davis will not start in Week 12 but will receive some carries during the game, reports Rick Maese, of The Washington Post

Looking like RBBC in Washington?

I love the hooked fish emoticon - it surely was designed for the Shannihan Mad Hatter RB Games ....

Williams wall was tough today but he's got some solid games coming forward now that its clear Williams is just the 3rd down back

6 carriers for 11 yards or 1.83 per carry. He almost reached his career average of 1.85. Oh well, at least he led the team in rushing yards.
