SHAVING - Do you safety razor, bro? (1 Viewer)

Making the switch over from the sickeningly priced (and underwhelming performing) gillette products (fusion). Headed to the safety razor route...

One reason is price, second reason is I want to enjoy the art of shaving... After getting shaves done at the local barber shop, I feel like my face deserves better at home.. Plus I have a delicious beard, and carving those lines is super difficult with a fusion... And using almost anything else doesn't leave a "clean" line for me.

So, anyone else? What products you love/suggest? Tips?

Bought: Henson AL13 safety razor / Blades - feather (japan), bolzano superinox (italy), astra blue (russia) and gillette 7 o'clock super platinums (india) / omega boar brush / Cella shaving soap / L'occitane cade after shave

Everyone is different, but I only use Feathers. No other blade cuts as close. Truefitt and Hill has the essential preshave oil but I use their soap too.

Actually growing out a beard now though. Cheaper and saves time.

You dont sculpt your beard tho? If I don't the hair looks gnarly up my cheeks and down my neck...

I've heard the feathers are unreal, but also heard doesn't work for some because they're TOO sharp  hence me buying a few brands to see what works best for me

I did for a long time but kinda got tired of it, it’s not a lot but takes long and ya just get more nicks.

I'm a safety razor guy for my head shave.

I use a Merkur razor (don't know the exact model but it looks like this). Pre-shave I use a sandalwood oil, I think it's Viking Revolution brand. Shaving cream I really like Cremo. Bee Bald for aftershave. For razors I've been using Viking Revolution too.

Honestly, I was scared to try it the first time but I'm very happy with it. Been going like 2 1/2 years now and I've maybe spent $15-20 on razors, at most.

I've used these for years, 24 blades plus a handle for $32.99. They used to sell them at Costco, then Sam's Club and now the only place I can find them is Amazon. An insert lasts me about a month or so. I have a thick beard and I shave pretty much every day.

So, for shaving I bought Cella shaving soap, but actually just landed this as well to use for sculpting after some reading. With a lathered face, sculpting very difficult to do because you cant "See" the lines... but if what I read is to be believed, the cremo goes on completely transparent and is very slick. so I'll likely start with this, this lather and shave the bulk.

Been using Harrys.

No issues.

I do love a hot shave from a barber sometimes. Very relaxing and a great shave.

Same. I will say I do not like the first couple of uses of Harry’s when it has that strip of shaving cream built in. It’s… Filmy.

Never knew they were called safety razors. I guess I called them real or old timey razors. I’ve used them in the past and always thought it would be cool to have a really nice one. Seems like an item. You can splurge on since it’s the o Lu one you’ll likely use for the rest of your life.

Cheap 2 blade disposables, e.g. bic. Usually end up around >0.20 per. Buy about once a year.
No cream. Just shave after I shower. Face wet enough.
Never got into the art of shaving. I just shave and go.

Henson AL13 safety razor
I get a ton of ads for these razors. How are they? Do you know if they are made in the USA?

They're made in Canada. London or kitchener iirc.

All my friends have them and absolutely swear by their quality (lifetime warranty if you order direct). Im just starting so dont wanna give my opinion, but absolutely nothing but good things (their blades a bit less-so)

Big fan of the safety razor. Used to do the whole face with it, now that I have a beard I still use it to line the cheeks and neck. No shaving cream, right after a shower, conditioner is enough.
