Roughly how much is 10k points worth? My friend booked my a 3-night stay for 2015 KY Derby and paid 10k points. What's a fair amount pay him in $$?

The 10k points is worth about $225 when factoring in the tax you'll also save by using points.

Different locations and different weekends could be more/less valuable but guessing someplace for the Derby would be relatively pricey. You could also see how much it would cost you to book on your own, if you know the hotel.

With Starwood, I can get a three night stay at a $100/night place for 10k pts. But I'm having trouble getting that to jibe with anything Louisville area on Derby weekend.

My friend said the price for 2015 is $2k/night 3-night minimum. Utterly ridiculous IMO but you have to stay somewhere.

That makes a lot more sense, supply and demand wise, but again, doesn't seem to jibe with any Sheraton rewards scheme I know of. You sure it wasn't 100k pts? That would seem more like it, unless we're on differently calibrated scales.

I don't think 10,000 points translates to more than $300.
Looking swiftly at hotels.com, I can see the L'ville Sheraton is priced such that 3 nights would probably be about 10k points in the middle of a typical week.

But something here doesn't add up.

What are Sheraton points? Is this the travel rookies thread, because I thought this was where all the rich guys and travelstuds hung out?

Best place to stay in Louisville for the derby IMO based on info gleaned from attending every year since Big Brown.

Exactly.

How many Sheraton Points do you have?
Do you need validation? I hereby validate you? We all done here?
Works for me. I still like the Dutch Colonial. God bless.

On Amex, 100k points would be worth $1,000 Sheraton gift card. I'd assume the point totals here are similar making his $100, which makes sense as it would be 1%... The absolute max on any speciality niche card good at only 1 vendor would be roughly 3%, so max value of the 10,000 points is $300.

The Bates Motel for 3 nights would be more than 10,000 points, you have that wrong.

Don't be a cheapskate find out how much the room would cost and offer him your share. Doubt they will take it.
