just a thought. nothing to base it on. how old is marcel shipp, could he be reborn on a new team? denver would scoop him up without a second thought in my eyes.

shipp 2000 yards in denver

I imagine he'll be picked up by someone, but I don't see him being more than depth.

Based on the past few seasons, whatever skills/promise he showed a few years back in AZ seems to be in the past.

or was it the lack of an offensive line?

KC is interesting. didnt think of that.

my guess he is worth holding onto in a dynasty league until after he settles onto a team and his role is better defined

Injuries played a role in his decline also.

Agreed

marcel shipp is done as a productive NFL player

seriously

even when he was at full strength he wasn't a great goal-line back and he only showed a pass catching ability his rookie year. he certainly has never showed the ability to change games...let alone put up a 2,000 yard season

trader jake.

i understand what your saying, but when he is cut do you think thats it for him or do you see a chance that another team will pick him up. like KC or DEN that need some veteran depth at that position. then he's only an injury away from playing.

ok then he'll only get 1500 yards in denver :loco:

As a Shipp dynasty owner, I am enthused to hear that he has been cut.

I've always felt that he was a pretty good back when he's healthy.

I was excited his first year, but he's been frustrating ever since. It could be the line, it could be him, it could be a combination of things. I tried to trade him to the Arrington owner last season, but no dice. It'd be interesting to see who, if anyone, picks him up. Though I don't think he's more than just a fill-in back these days. I'd love to think otherwise, but won't allow myself to be too optimistic.

Editted to add: :blackdot:

I wouldn't discount anyone who had to run behind that pathetic excuse for a line.
Maybe, but he did perform back in 2002 with a seemingly poor line.Since then, an injury later and two full years without seeing the end zone, I think his time has come and gone.

The guy hasn't had a TD since 2002; he's had over 400 carries since his last score, and he averaged 2.9 ypc in 2005. Pretty unlikely anyone will pick him up.

Shipp did average 103 yards of total offense per game when he took over as starter in his rookie year. I don't know if he fully recovered from his injury a couple years ago, but if healthy someone may want to pick him up, but I doubt he would be brought in as a starter.

he can still run...he'll make the roster somewhere.
this seems like an inopportune time for him to enter the FA market. Bennet? Suggs? other equally marginal backs on the market too. what about Miami? he could find a home there with RW in the CFL...

Houston and Miami are looking for a veteran backup RB. Both have expressed interest in Bennett .

If he's got anything left and will play for the minimum, there is no downside to either of those teams seeing if he can fill the role.

Most of the posters in this thread are talking like you are, as though Shipp has received his walking papers.SHIPP HAS NOT BEEN CUT.

There. Now that that's been cleared up, if people want to speculate on 'what ifs', that's fine. Just be sure while reading this thread that you know the originator of the thread was only speculating where he'd go IF he were to be cut.

could he make a roster somewhere? surewill he produce anything worth getting excited about? no

at this point i'd rather have stellar back-up RB's like antowain smith, adrian peterson, or maurice hicks over him. i'd even take a chance on tyrone wheatley or stephen davis before i would bother with marcel shipp :bag:

NFL Network's Adam Shefter reports that the Texans and Cowboys recently inquired about Marcel Shipp's availability in a trade and were denied.

Texans landed Antowain Smith right? Or was that the Saints? IIRC The Texans have Davis, Morrency, some vet, and guys here like Lundy. The Boys have Thompson who had a brief moment last year and of course Jones and Barber III.

These don't seem so good for him. I hope Shipp chooses a team where he can play. He could be Lamont Jordan's backup no? How about Ronnie Brown's? If the Brown's aren't happy with Suggs or Green I suppose he could backup Droughns.

I hope he puts some thought into this and doesn't just sign with the first available team

He can't sign anywhere as he still is a Cardinal. I'm not sure he will get cut.

I guess I misread the title, didn't even check the transactions page. Thanks for the heads up David

Yep, ASmith is in HOU.I think Miami would be a great fit. Having Morris and Minor as backups could be one of Miami's weakest links, especially since Ronnie has not proven he can carry the load for the entire season in the pros or college.

I think Morris and Minor are fine/solid/maybe two of the better 3rd down backs in football. IIRC Morris can even play FB. I hate when 3rd down backs are asked to carry the load and not used properly. As evidenced by guys like Faulk in NE and Meggett with the G-men of years ago their value to the team can be huge

Morris got me a few 10+ point games in a 16 team league back in 2004 so I know what you mean. I think we agree that they are not suited to carry the load for the season (if Brown was to be out for an extended period)
