If I am Antowain Smith, I am kicking myself like crazy for signing right before Ricky's Ganja fest, and Shipp's injury.

Arizona RB coming off a serious ankle injury in mid-season could be a value pick...how often have we heard that? Not too often I'd bet.Maybe, if you have a 36 round draft. The guy could miss 12 games, and then there's no guarantee that he'll be 100%, or that he'll get playing time even if he is near 100%.Pasadena.Actually, that makes Shipp a nice value pick for upcoming redrafts.![]()
If he only misses 8 weeks, he will be back by week 5. People also said the same thing about Michael Bennett and Chad Pennington, but i drafted them last year while people were drafting guys like Reche Caldwell, Andre Davis and Chad Hutchinson.Granted, Bennett didnt blow up when he came back, but he was more useful to me than any of the players drafted in the same round as i got him.Maybe, if you have a 36 round draft. How so? The season doesn't start for several weeks. The guy could miss 12 games,
Excuse me for quoting my own post, but I owe B.S. an apology. I read 8-12 weeks, and I was thinking 8-12 games... using even the high end of that time table, Shipp could still return by Arizona's 9th game or so.Maybe, if you have a 36 round draft. 5'9½, 20340 Time: 4.62Grade: 3.12 BIO: Arizona transfer that led UNLV in rushing the past two seasons. Senior numbers on the ground were 208/932/3 with 21/118/0 receiving. Won all-conference honors the prior season with rushing totals of 84/605/4 and 20/267/2 catching the ball.POSITIVES: Elusive ball carrier with a variety of skills. Quick footed, sets up defenders and slides off tackles to pick up positive yardage. Runs low to the ground, gets lost in the traffic and follows blocks, finding the open area on the field. Displays good run instincts and a degree of explosion. Solid hands out of the backfield and a competitive player that gives 100 percent all of the time.NEGATIVES: Not big, fast and cannot run to daylight. Rarely breaking tackles and only marginal blocking skills.ANALYSIS: A good worker on and off the field, Croom fits the mold of a third-down back or situational runner at the next level. Could slip through the cracks in April's draft but has a real shot at making a final roster.PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent 2003 Receiving Statistics Receptions Receiving Yards Yards Per Reception Touchdowns 21-118-5.6-0 2003 Rushing Statistics Rushing Yards Attempts Average per Rush Touchdowns 208-932-4.5-3fans are talking Larry Croom?? who is this guy??edited to add: http://unlvrebels.collegesports.com/sports...om_larry00.html
While Josh Scobey has straight-line speed, Damien Anderson is IMO the better overall RB and the one likely to benefit from the Marcel Shipp injury. Scobey lacks pass receiving skills and has yet to learn how to block. Scobey is a heck of a kick returner, but as a RB he is still very raw. Notice the ESPN article says: "With Shipp's injury, Damien Anderson now moves up on the depth chart."http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=nfl&id=1854049
Arizona Cardinals RB Marcel Shipp dislocated his left ankle during an intrasquad scrimmage Friday night and is expected to be sidelined for 8-12 weeks. Shipp got caught underneath a pile during a routine running play and got his left leg wrenched in the artificial turf at Northern Arizona University's Skydome. After several minutes on the turf, Shipp was loaded on a cart and led off the field. The injury was not as bad as it initially appeared to be, said Cardinals coach Dennis Green. "It did not break through the skin, which means it probably does not need an operation," Green said. In the offseason, Green named Emmitt Smith the starter at running back. But with the 35-year-old Smith's durability a question mark, Shipp was expected to see plenty of carries this season.
Shipp led the Cardinals with 830 yards rushing last year, including games of 165 and 141 yards. "He took a bad spill and it don't look good right now," Smith said of Shipp. "But he's young and resilient and he's in great shape. "I've been on football fields for a long time and I've seen some bad things happen, but not many to people I've been close to. The kid is a like a brother to me," added Smith. "Watching him go down is like watching a brother go down. It hurts." With Shipp's injury, Damien Anderson now moves up on the depth chart.
He's small, slow, and goes down at first contact...but he tries really hardNEGATIVES: Not big, fast and cannot run to daylight. Rarely breaking tackles and only marginal blocking skills.
ANALYSIS: A good worker on and off the field
Um, so he pretty much has no attribuie that would make him even a marginal NFL back.NEGATIVES: Not big, fast and cannot run to daylight. Rarely breaking tackles and only marginal blocking skills.
Nice eye. I remember hearing murmers about him before. He might be in the mix.Keep in mind though he is a local guy so the fans who follow college football in Arizona as much perhaps more than the Cardinals are probobly rooting for him because of this.Damien Anderson is probobly the best RB they have but DaKnee really likes speed so I think it will be between Anderson and Scobey competing with Emmitt for now.Croom is worth keeping an eye on though.fans are talking Larry Croom?? who is this guy??edited to add: http://unlvrebels.collegesports.com/sports...om_larry00.html
Larry Croom is not the Answer. He's a 3rd down back at best. I can't believe anyone is giving him any thought except for the fact that he is the new flavor of the year being just drafted. He was a real "Team First" cheerleader type at UNLV, but he doesn't have any real burst or speed. He's quick with good hands. He's not an NFL everydown back by any means.fans are talking Larry Croom?? who is this guy??edited to add: http://unlvrebels.collegesports.com/sports...om_larry00.html
Go with Plan C:Keep your mouth shut, then when someone drafts Shipp, laugh like hell.my draft is at 11 am. i know for sure someone is gonna snap him up early without knowing. should i announce it or should they do their own homework?
agreed. thats one more player of value for you.HERDGo with Plan C:Keep your mouth shut, then when someone drafts Shipp, laugh like hell.my draft is at 11 am. i know for sure someone is gonna snap him up early without knowing. should i announce it or should they do their own homework?
Against a stingy Carolina defense and being his first career start, I'd say very impressive.Back in 2002 Damien Anderson had to start when Jones was injured and I forget what Pittmans problem was. Anyways this is how he did:10/06 2002 @Carolina 23 carries 61 yards 2.7 ypc 0TD 3 catches 36 yards Almost combined for 100 yards. Impressive eh?
Too bad the Wolverines aren't on Arizona's schedule. Anyone remember that amazing 54-51 game when Northwestern beat Michigan about four years ago? Anderson had something like 270 yards rushing and a couple of TDs.[back to reality....]Back in 2002 Damien Anderson had to start when Jones was injured and I forget what Pittmans problem was. Bia, I see RBBC written all over this. Either Emmit or Anderson could be the Primary guy. If Scooby can get the Goal Line work Ala Leroy Hoard, he'd have some value. I'd look there for the safest bet.Anderson is very intriguing though. Damien Anderson is an not a complete back. IIRC, he lost his spleen when he rolled his SUV last year.Thoughts on Damien Anderson? He does seem like more of a complete back than Scobey, and once was a Heisman hopeful.
Just started researching this, prompted by a PM by Big Daddy Kane (much thanks) - and my initial thoughts after some looks is that Anderson is going to be the guy. Is my memory fuzzy, I've been doing some google searches, but didn't he tear up NFLE two seasons ago as a rookie??I don't know too much about Scobey, any help?Damien Anderson will be starting by Week 3.
That's what I was looking at...week 7 would be my projected first start for Shipp if you put a gun to my head.:fingerscrossed:From the looks of things, Shipp's first game should be week 7 (Oct 24). Arizona's bye is Week 6, so they will probably hold him out until after the bye. Week 7 is 11 weeks from now.For those of us that have drafted him already, it's not that bad. He should be back for the last half of our FF season.
I don't think Damien Anderson ever played in Europe. He was injured his senior season and wound up signing as an undrafted free agent with the Cards. He was considered a Heisman hopeful heading into that year, but probably would have been better off if he had left after his junior season. I believe he was a practice squad player to start, but got signed to the active roster and actually started a game due to a rash of injuries at RB. Scobey is 6'220" and a wicked kick returner who the Cards have been saying plenty of nice warm fuzzy things about lately. This is all from memory...apologies if anything is incorrect.Just started researching this, prompted by a PM by Big Daddy Kane (much thanks) - and my initial thoughts after some looks is that Anderson is going to be the guy. Scobey is a special teams demon with nice physical measurables but is really not a very instinctive RB or very experienced as one either.Like Druggie was saying Scobey is pretty tight in the hips and so does not have much agility for cutting and I dunno if he really has decent vision either.DaKnee Green has been raving about his speed which he does truly value in a RB. The ability to take a run to the house. But Scobey may not be able to take advantage of his blocking enough to really do that.Damien Anderson is a complete RB. But his injuries have robbed him of his speed which is probobly well below average now. Not a good thing for a RB in Greens offense.Emmitt may actualy be better than both of these guys even at his age.I expect Arizona to go after a new RB in 2005 unless Shipp comes off of this injury and plays phenominaly.I consider Arizona is greater need of a upgrade here than Miami.Just started researching this, prompted by a PM by Big Daddy Kane (much thanks) - and my initial thoughts after some looks is that Anderson is going to be the guy. Feels too much like DeShaun Foster in 2002. Different player and different injury, I know. But Foster was expected to contribute that year and never took the field.I'll avoid Shipp this year, even late in my drafts. If he only misses 8 weeks, he will be back by week 5. if a heathy shipp can't beat out emmitt for the starting spot, how is shipp going to be starting the first week he's ready to come back from an injury? furthermore, someone said anderson would be starting by week 3.if shipp couldn't beat out emmit, how is anderson going to do it?week 7 would be my projected first start for Shipp
we don't know for a fact that Emmitt would have started week 1 in a game that mattered. It could have all been a motivational ploy by the coach.Even Emmitt himself came out and said that he felt Shipp clearly deserved to be the starter, or something like that.if a heathy shipp can't beat out emmitt for the starting spot, how is shipp going to be starting the first week he's ready to come back from an injury? furthermore, someone said anderson would be starting by week 3.if shipp couldn't beat out emmit, how is anderson going to do it?week 7 would be my projected first start for Shipp
Yeah, but Denny is all about establishing his authority down there right now. Sure you've proved to be the better running back Marcel Shipp, but you can sit your butt on the bench until you prove to me that you're the better running back.It is widely assumed that Pete Kendall is the one who complained to the player's union about the extra practices that Denny was forcing on the players. Denny wasn't going to take that crap. It's his show to run, not Kendall's. I respect Denny's decision to cut Kendall, but you are right, they should have got something out of Kendall. This really makes Denny Green's release of Pete Kendall seem short sighted. If he wanted him off the team that's one thing, but Kendall remains a starting caliber guard for many teams (FYI: The Jets signed him yesterday and he'll start at right guard)...Green could've traded Kendall for RB help.
Tough for Green to have that foresight b/c you can't predict injuries, but Kendall to the Browns (where Denny's son is Dir/Player Personnel) for James Jackson makes a whole lot of sense.
What about McCown? You think more rushing yards and perhaps some short yardage rushing TDs are likely? The only thing this does is give more passes for yards... I would bump up Boldin a little bit, Fitz a bit more than Boldin and possibly Freddie Jones too. Injury at RB on this team equates to more balls being thrown.
No, I dont think Green would want him moving the ball when he has WR's that can do it. Plus, the more prone a QB is to scrambling the more chance he has getting hurt and no way does Green want a backup QB in there... IMO.What about McCown? He'll be fine, though, becauseFYI - WHEATLEY IS THE STARTER
