Shorts vs Robinson (1 Viewer)

Who do you like better this season and why?
I don't know about who I like more this season but I would say that there's more history with Shorts upon which to base a decision. We know when healthy he tends to produce but that the when healthy aspect is very iffy. I think overall you're looking at a poor offense with a rookie QB and a weekly carousel of "who's the JAX WR to own" among Hurns, Robinson, and Shorts.

First week back Shorts played 100% of the snaps and had ten targets. If Bortles is anything like an upgrade Shorts should be pretty solid for the rest of the season.

Why those two guys? What about Hurns and Lee?

Shorts is athletic, but gets hurt a lot and can't catch the ball.

Lee supposedly is in the dog house for not knowing his routes, etc. from what I read on RW.

Hurns is the opposite -- he knows the system. We might be talking about him right now if he wasn't hurt. That's what I meant about the carousel in JAX at WR through the first 3 weeks of the season.

Well, in 2013 Shorts dropped 10 of 76 catchable balls and in 2012 he dropped 9 out of 55, ranking in the top (or bottom, depending how you look at it) 10 in drop rate both years. He's clearly the most recognized name out of what I see as a four man race, but I don't trust him. I also don't know that anyone in a 12 team league should care who wins this race. JAX is one of the worst two teams in the NFL and has a rookie QB.

Last year Blackmon and Shorts had plenty of garbage time receptions and both were very solid, top 20-30 type WR producers. I wouldn't argue that Jacksonville is much worse this year than they were last. If Shorts gets healthy and back to form or Robinson breaks out (or one of the other receivers steps up), I don't see why they wouldn't produce similar numbers to last year. They're going to be facing lots of fourth quarter and second half prevent defenses and that's good for chunks of yards and very PPR friendly.

I'd rather have whichever Jags WR becomes the #1 target over a low WR 3 like Greg Jennings, for example.

Well, Jennings is in a similar situation with a rookie QB, but he's obviously a more polished WR than any of these guys. I'd take Jennings, who will get red zone targets, than rely on garbage time dump offs (prevent defense = no TDs, btw) but that's really not the point here.

Blackmon appears to be an elite talent and he had 2 good games out of 4 games so he's kind of a small sample size and poor comparison since he's likely a better player than any of these guys.

Shorts did get a lot of targets as the only decent WR left on the team last year, but unless you play in full point PPR (which you shouldn't) then he won't be very useful as there probably won't be a lot of TDs. Also, he may not even get a ton of targets like last year, given that there will be a 4 way fight for targets this year rather than him being the last man standing like last year.

Robinson had ten targets as well though and was more productive with them 7/79 vs 5/35 for Shorts (yes I know Shorts got a TD)

Robinson. His aDOT was 14+ while Shorts' was sub-10. Though it could end up being close as Bortles isn't afraid to spread the ball around. I'd prefer to have the guy with the highest upside.

You also have to consider the training camp time Bortles had as the "2", which allowed him to develop chemistry with other guys considered in the "2" group, which I imagine early on included Hurns and Robinson (with Lee slated above). Obviously, they are younger and more "raw" than Shorts (when healthy, we know Shorts can produce and is a deep threat) - but QB to WR chemistry is very important (see Eli Manning to Rueben Randle ... poor chemistry)
