Should Deshaun Foster be considered a solid RB2? (1 Viewer)

I'm watching the Carolina RB situation with interest. It looks like Foster is going to be the main back this year, as usual. But will he put up enough fantasy points to make him a solid RB2 or just a marginal one? Interested in opinions about this guy going forward.

Just traded him the day ago for Marc Bulger straight up. Keeper league, he had D. Williams, I needed a solid QB to backup Carson Palmer... made sense.

right now he's my rb3/4 and I'm happy with that. Was able to get him in the offseason for next to nothing, 2nd round rookie pick at the most.

The problem with Foster is that he can't seem to string two good games together. He'll have a solid outing, and then lay an egg. He's similar to Lee Evans (omitting this year of course), in which you have a hard time guessing when he'll go off. He's a good spot starter, but the trouble is finding the right starts.

You just never know with this guy. I had him on my bench this past week and he had 29 pts. Now, if I try to play him this week he'll probably do nothing.

So, no he's not an extremely reliable RB2 as a full time starter, but he can be a soid play some weeks. Although, he does seem slightly more consistent this year under their new run blocking scheme.

I have him in a 14 team league alternating with D. Ward and A. Green at RB2. I've been playing Ward the past 2 weeks.

he's an odd situation and even though he's done pretty well you can probably get him pretty easily since most owners drafted him in the mid/later rounds and are looking to cash out. I think I'd look to buy him as a decent 3rd RB but you have to limit your expectations because his production will vary week to week.

Some things in his favor are he seems to be the goal line back and when the team was ahead and was running out the clock he was getting the garbage yards. When the game is close the carries seem to be pretty split so for Foster to have real good value you have to think the Panthers are going to be a decent/good team with some leads.

Their schedule from here on out with the run defense rank through week 3...

Tampa Bay (21)

@New Orleans (19)

@Arizona (16)

Indianapolis (14)

@Tennessee (2)

Atlanta (25)

@Green Bay (10)

New Orleans (19)

San Francisco (25)

@Jacksonville (24)

Seattle (16)

Dallas (8)

@Tampa Bay (21)

I found it interesting that he's averaging over 5 YPC so far this year. Granted, it's in shared time, but maybe he's finally getting it with a system that's more conducive to his running style.

Now if he can only stay healthy.

TY :lmao:

Foster has been good since the start of camp and really has done a solid job do far this season. He fumbled in week 1 so Fox gave Williams the ball in the 4th Qtr, if he doesn't get pulled Foster would have had 100 yds in that game. Right now he seems to be the Panthers #1 guy.

IMO Foster right now is a 2/3 RB on a team. I used him last week to replace Jacobs in one league and will most likely do that this week even though he has a tough matchup. Once Jacobs gets back I will have to see how both are doing and how my bye weeks are then think about trading one of them for a WR.

Most owners probably got Foster after Williams, this happened in most of my drafts, so he could turn into a real bargain this year.

As a former Deuce owner, Mr. Foster is now more than just my fave bench RB!!

It really hurt to drop the Deuce let me tell you!!

Ummmmm...that didnt sound right!!

I'll preface this by saying that I am a Foster owner.

I don't know how many of you caught the end of the Atlanta game last week. While I'm not one to over-analyze a man-hug, I did take notice of the fact that John Fox went up to DeShaun Foster at the end of the game and gave him a big hug. I'm not kidding. Now, before a bunch of you slam me for making a big deal over an affectionate coach, I did think it was both telling and consistent with what many have believed since the beginning of pre-season this year. Both the Panthers organization and the head coach appear to want Foster to succeed and be their 'go to' RB. Of course, it would surprise nobody if Foster broke his leg in the shower this week, but it sure does look like Foster is running better than he ever has. He has way more power in his running this season, so that's impressive to see. Right now, things look great for Foster. Subject to change without notice, of course.

Just in terms of this week I wrote:

DeShaun Foster: Had 2 TD and over 100 yds last week. I can’t imagine he will be able to do the same against Tampa Bay this week. The Bucs are giving up 4.0 ypc but they tighten up when you get on their side of the field. They have allowed only 2 rushing TD on the season. Foster and the Panthers rushing offense are avg 4.6 ypc right now. That’s awful good. Against the Bucs…22/56, 16/23, 14/46, 20/82, 13/48, and never not one TD ever. He’s due?

I think they went to a 1 cut, zone blocking scheme this year that really benefits him.

Foster is a RB that was a reach prior to the start of the season, drafted as at best a 3rd RB, if not 4th or 5th RB in most leagues depending on size.

He has big upside dependent soley on health. He's performed in the past, though injuries have kept him from being consistent.

Right now if you have him on your roster, he's playing well for you and until we see and injury I think will be performing at #2RB levels based on schedule and the new run blocking scheme.

I'd like to see how he does against Tampa... and the health of Delhomme and Steve Smiths play is a major factor... but I think this will be a decent year for Foster

this is what worries me this week. tampa's def is underrated and without delhomme i suspect the whole offense will struggle. the team may be forced to rely on foster, but don't you think the defenses will know that too?

I had Foster targetted in my draft as a late pick as I wanted a number of WR and needed to taget a RB 3 who could get some points on a regular basis and he was clearly the starter in a RB freindly offense. Low and behold I was able to snag him in the 8th round of a 14 team league. I might have been able to wait another round but I was getting scared, as it was it was a risk waiting him out that long. The reason I was confident that he would fall, was because most of the guys are FBG members and the polarization of viewpoints on this board can be strong so I was sure they were all down on him.I find it funny how little press he gets on the board considering how he has performed to date.BTWWilliams was picked late in the third roundMy WR are Owens, Burress and Chambers Im pretty happy with how things have worked out so far.I guess what Im saying is thanks FBGs, for helping me understand my enemy.: )

i drafted Parker, Benson, Foster, Jordan and White as my RBs

in the last week i've traded:

Lendale White for Dwayne Bowe

Cedric Benson for Anquan Boldin

Anquan Boldin & Lamont Jordan for Terrell Owens and Bernard Berrian

and now have:

Willie Parker and Deshuan Foster as my only running backs (we're only required to start 1 RB)...

All because i feel very confident in Parker (even thought Jordan has been outscoring him)... and also in Foster... saw him in preseason and yeah it's only preseason, but he looked terrific... Williams on the other hand - looked a lot like how Reggie bush looked last night (lost)... so it doesn't surprise me and won't surprise me if Foster ends up with 1000 and 8... which is fine for a RB2... and i have to now cross my fingers and dot my eyes...

Drafted him as RB4 behind parker, edge, and portis in a league where I only start one and can only flex one. Probably trading Calvin along with him this week for Wayne to the Jackson owner to pair with Walker and Driver.

I see Steve Smith as more of a factor than Delhomme... he zones in on Smith, the D's know it, but they can't stop him. Carr will do ok in Delhommes spot... it will be like xmas for Carr... No matter who is under center, the D will have to focus on Smith... I really want to see how he does against the Tampa D... Foster that is... u are right, they are underrated and this will be a good test

wow so you basicly gave jordan, benson, and white for TO, Berrian, and Bowe...Little priceyI also have Foster as my only #2 back ( unless you count Brian Lenard Now) But I drafted that wayLt is My #1 (I wished he would act like it)..And I have Harrison ,TO , Moss and Colston as wrs..Zealot Master League

I watched the TB-CAR game a bit. Foster runs like a man possessed out there. I was very impressed by him. Should be a solid RB3/2 all year although the fumbles are worrisome. Williams is the better receiver and Foster the better runner.

I also noticed the fumbles, although I guess it's a positive that Fox stuck with him. Any indication by Fox that they're an issue?
