Should I be looking to buy on Colston? (1 Viewer)

Are we still looking at a #1 WR once he gets back into game shape? Seems like this would be the perfect time to buy from a frustrated owner going into a bye.

Colston owners...which WRs would you take strait up for him? Those looking to buy, who would you be willing to offer?

It just seems tough to gauge his value at this point...

I was considering Kellen Winslow and Antonio Bryant for Colston The next 2 weeks are important for me to make a run in the playoffs

I sent out an offer this morning to the Colston owner.... to see if he would bite and at least start discussions.....sometimes you have to gamble and get lucky to win the big prize, I am thinking Colston returns to form in the second half and now is the last chance to go for him

offered Avery and Holt...for Colston and one of his kickers I think....

was just thinking about making on offer today, thinking eddie royal and maybe a pick next year, 1 player keeper league. his team is totally out of it anyways....

Colston owner, and I'm hoping he picks things up in the coming weeks. Watching the game Sunday I'm worried because the Saints "spread the wealth" to so many different targets.

If this trend continues I would consider moving him if the right offer came along.

My $.02

Would players like Hines Ward, Laveranues Coles or DeShawn Jackson be in the ball park? I'm not sure I would part with anyone more talented at this point unless it was a package dealeta: Im talking redraft here

Royal isn't likely to be keeper material in a 1-keeper league. (Most would rather keep Colston than Royal.)So, I think you'd pretty much have to include a pick, and it would likely have to be a decent pick.

I would not move him for any of those players in my league at this time.

This isn't what you asked but I'll tell you anyway. I traded for him week 2, thinking I had a pretty good team and I would have him as a WR3 come playoff time. As of now the other guy got the MUCH better end of the deal (Roddy White) than me. Most people here were saying I won the deal at the time, so I wasn't alone. Losing White didn't hurt me until this week, which was my first loss. I think I will still get a WR2, at least, when Colston returns after the bye.As for trading for him now, I think it's a wise move, I just wouldn't accept any of those guys (though I would part with them) mentioned above for two reason: one, the owner has likely stuck it out this far and is close to reaping the benefits or two, he is in good position to wait it out until he does come back to form. IMO, Colston will be a top 10 receiver the rest of the way. Just my two cents.

If the person held him this long, any of those player offers would be an insult.

I've sat on Colston SINCE week two and now stand to benefit with the #1WR in the best passing offense in the NFL...on FRESH legs with a great playoff schedule.

If I were to move him (in redraft), I would take no less than a #2RB or lower end #1QB. But, alot of that has to do with holding the guy for 8 weeks and waiting...

neither one of those guys would be kept by either team if that matters, this team might move him for peanuts because he hasnt won a game yet, I put out some feelers anyways.

understandable. I guess while I am intrigued by his upside, I just dont think I can part with someone who has been producing top 12 numbers over the season for a guy who has pulled down a whole 5 catches in 3 games. Like you said, the ball gets spread around there. Brees has been playing fine without him and I don't think he will feel the need to "look" for Colston.

Im thinking of offering Barber/Housh for Steven Jackson/Colston, dude hasnt been high on colston whatsoever

Good point. You might have also hit on why Colston probably isn't much of a buy low.

I just traded for Colston (and D. Ward) giving up Rhodes and Cotchery to the owner of Addai who is about out of the playoff race.

I'm in a 20 team redraft, yes 20 and a Colston owner flat-out dropped him last week. I grabbed him right away.

Has there been any news out of New Orleans regarding Colston and whether he will get his starting job back?
This isn't meant as a shot to anyone, but do we really think think that a guy who had two of the most productive seasons to start a career in the league's history will lose his spot after an injury? Once he shakes the rust and feels comfortable there is no way he is kept off the field. He is a 6'4'' red zone monster.

Colston owner. I've been offered Plax straight up. I'm going to ask for Forte instead.
As an owner of both Forte and Colston, I don't see how that possibly gets accepted. At least in PPR leagues, Forte is a top 5 RB.
Ditto here--but djb posted above that he got Forte and then some!! WOW!! I'd love to find out that's worth it having managed to obtain Colston myself a few weeks back...

Why not? It depends on how much rb depth the Forte owner has and what his needs are at wr. Also, many people still believe Colston can regain his form. In that case, I would think it would be a pretty good trade.

traded eddie royal and my 5th rounder for colston and his 6th rounder. I like the trade anyways in a keep 1, those are really like 6th/7th round picks in a redraft and royal was one of my backups.

Well this doesn't surprise me one bit. This is the same guy who didn't know what quota meant If Colston is healthy yeah you won that deal, but week 2 he was already injured. You don't get a better deal at ALL trading away a #1 WR for a WR who is going to be out for like 5 weeks. Whoever you talked to in here saying you got the better end needs to go on my growing list

I traded Brandon Jacobs for Colston before the game in London.

I am excited to see how he (Colston) comes back after the bye. Hopefully he will produce, or else I will shop him.

I'm in a PPR league and I saw last year how valuable he was. He's perhaps one of the most underrated WRs this season. He hardly came out of nowhere to be great this year... if you don't think so then I'd like to know what rock you've been under for the last year. I had him penciled in as a potential top 10 this season, especially coming off a 1200 yard season last yearLike I said, if Colston is healthy, this trade is awesome for him. But he traded a great posession WR for an injured WR at that time (week 2) everyone thought would be out until week 10...

You want my other preseason predictions-

Westbrook and LT would not be in the top 10 due to injuries (lucked out on that one, but westbrook wasn't much of a brilliant prediction)

I predicted Addai to be the #1 RB... didn't work out

I thought Bush would have a breakout season

I had Brees as the #1 QB, with Brady and Manning out of the top 5

I had Calvin Johnson in the top 10... meh jury's still out

MJD as a top 5 RB

Colston as a top 3 WR... didn't really work out on that one either

Randy Moss out of the top 5

Fitzgerald as the #1 WR

Rodgers as a top 10 QB (7th)

Schaub as a top 10 QB (9th)

I did not expect Jennings to do that well. I thought he'd be okay but never did I think he'd be a poor man's Roddy White

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head because they involved top players.

This place is full of d-bags who criticize everyone for their rankings. Why would I post them then? So I can come back later and say "look I was right ha ha"? Sorry, I know I'm good a fantasy, I don't need the approval of a forum group to make me feel better about my abilities. d

Lol. I know what a quota means, I meant in reference to the HIRING process, not the interviewing process (which is what quotas are often in reference to). It's also convenient you changed your post quickly after you posted that. I know you have an advanced degree in physical therapy or what not, and I commend that (which is why I praised you for your insight on Colston) but please do not assume to know more than me about the politics of race and the like, it's like me trying to tell you about am MCL strain. No need for me to get into why, but suffice to say you don't hold the degrees or education I do in that department.Back to football. I did not predict White to be a WR1 when I drafted him in the 6th round. I am not upset about it, sometimes I miss on players. I would imagine many people did not think that he was going to be this good this year. I traded for Colston with the idea in mind that he would be my WR3 come week 10, and that my team was strong enough to hold me until then. I figured right, I am 7-1 (only in one league) and will hopefully get to trot out Fitz, Marshall and Colston starting in week 10. Definitely lost that deal, but we'll see if I was right to think that it would help my team later in the year.

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head because they involved top players.
http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...mp;hl=spotlight :whoosh: Just wish you woulve mentioned that here. You wouldve been the only person on this site ranking him as a WR1. Therefore, you're growing list wouldve been huge with people who didnt like ROddy
This place is full of d-bags who criticize everyone for their rankings. Why would I post them then? So I can come back later and say "look I was right ha ha"? Sorry, I know I'm good a fantasy, I don't need the approval of a forum group to make me feel better about my abilities. d
You're the one criticizing him trading Roddy for Colston. In this thread you appear to be just as bad as you claim this place is full of.

I'm not sure I would part with anyone more talented at this point unless it was a package deal
I think I will still get a WR2, at least, when Colston returns after the bye.

OUCH
Well this doesn't surprise me one bit. This is the same guy who didn't know what quota meant If Colston is healthy yeah you won that deal, but week 2 he was already injured. You don't get a better deal at ALL trading away a #1 WR for a WR who is going to be out for like 5 weeks. Whoever you talked to in here saying you got the better end needs to go on my growing list
:goodposting: You really thought Roddy White would be a #1 WR in week 2? Wow can I get some more of your predictions?

There's a big difference between giving someone grief for making a bone-headed trade and giving someone grief for their pre-season rankings.Perhaps this could be one in the same, maybe he valued White very low (bottom end of top 20) in the preseason and week 2. If that's the case then fine. I just think it's foolish to trade for a WR who (at that time, week 2) many thought would sit out until week 10. I wouldn't give up any top 15 WR for Colston at that point, maybe not any top 20 WR at that point. I think he's going to be great, but it depends who the rest of yoru team is if you make a trade like that. Basically you're trading a weekly start for someone you'll get for 6 weeks. That's great if you've got a very solid team, but it sucks if you need production from that second WR spot.

Like I said before, if I had known Roddy White was going to be top 5, obviously I don't make the trade. I misjudged his value in week 2, which I did not have much higher than I had in predraft (in fact, maybe lower given his first two weeks were 2/54, 4/59, respectively). I felt I had the team to pull this trade off - Fitz and Marshall as my top two WRs. It may very well be that Colston does nothing this year, or he could outperform White the rest of the way. In any case, I can trot out Marshall, Fitz, and Colston after this week. I'd buy Colston right now - maybe that continues to make me naive - but I'll take the chance this year in that offense with the way Brees is playing.

This thread has taken a turn for the worse.

Can we get back on topic of discussing Colston and if he is a great candidate to buy low?

TIA

With those 2 then yes I would have done the same thing

No

I would absolutely buy him - but know that I base this on his past performances. I also like him because I love the Saints offense and Brees is playing as well as he possibly can right now.

If the person held him this long, any of those player offers would be an insult.

I've sat on Colston SINCE week two and now stand to benefit with the #1WR in the best passing offense in the NFL...on FRESH legs with a great playoff schedule.
Good point. You might have also hit on why Colston probably isn't much of a buy low.
 This sums it up for me as well. Since I've held on to him for so long, It would still take a great deal for me to move him. I was offered Kevin Walter and a 1st and turned it down. It wasn't even close to me.

I've been sitting on Colston in a 14-team PPR, but also have AJ/Marshall/CJohnson (start 2WR/Flex). Debating whether I should offer Colston/Forte to get Gore, but that seems slanted. While his value to me is limited, he could still easily put up top-10 numbers the rest of the way. With the exception of Week 13, his schedule shapes up very nicely (Love that championship game matchup vs. Det.).

Maybe you should add yourself to your sig, buddy.

Just looked at his schedule, and he has Falcons and Chiefs back-to-back out of bye. I think Colston could really provide a boost to some of the teams that have been sitting on him. Not to mention that he has Detroit in week 16.

I just offered Jacobs/Ward for him, waiting to hear back. I have Wayne/Ocho/Breaston so I need a WR. I have RB depth with Lynch/Hightower/James/D.Williams/Torain. Jacobs schedule is tough so I'm hoping Colston can offset it and I can run with Hightower or (gulp) Torain.

Am I offering too much?

I just offered Thomas Jones for him straight up in my league. After checking his RB's he needs some help also in my league points come very easily so it's looks extremely slanted in his favor T. Jones 186 points so far to Colstons 18.6 lol. I'm hoping he takes the bait considering Colston played last game and only had 2 catches.

I am eating crow on this one. I believed that Colston would come back and step into this offense. Sure he has been alright at best, but I expected more. Such is life, maybe with another week under his belt he will be a very good play in the playoffs - but I am no longer going to defend him. Props to you guys who got it right so far.
