Should I make a play for Booker or hold tight? (1 Viewer)

PPR keeper league with yardage and TD length bonuses.  Below is my roster at RB and WR.  We play RB/WR/FLEX/FLEX.

RB: Zeke, Michael, Duke Johnson, West, and Dixon

WR: Green, Hilton, Benjamin, Landry, Diggs, M.Thomas, and Montgomery

As you can see, I'm stronger at WR than RB.  I usually play Zeke and 3 WR.  One of them usually always hits for 30+ points, if not two them.  I plug Michael in if his match-ups look better than a WR.  I'm 5-2, averaging 137 ppg, so I'm not pressed to make a move, but it seems like I'm in a good spot to go get this guy if he's going to breakout.

The question is two part.  First, does Booker give me better play than what I already have?  Second, what if we include that I could keep him in the 14th round next year??

Thanks!!

Answer to question 1 - NO.  You're not starting Booker over Zeke, obviously, but Booker isn't a better play than AJ/TY/Landry in a PPR league.

Answer to question 2 - Hard to answer without knowing your keeper rules, the number you can keep, and whether or not CJ is back in DEN next year.  Too many ifs for that.  If you knew Booker would be the starter next year and get 60% of the touches, a 14th round price is a steal.  But you don't know that right now.  Worry about winning this year first and deal with your keepers.  You have a team that can win it now.  Also, if the Booker owner isn't doing real well this year, he isn't likely going to trade you Booker for someone like Landry with say a 4th round price.  That wouldn't make sense from his point of view.....if he's looking to rebuild for next year.

Not enough info to factor in the keeper evaluation.  If you can only have one keeper the likelihood that Booker is that keeper is fairly minimal with the all the questions surrounding him so that has no value in the your decision.

Without knowing  how long CJA is out for sure it also tempers some of Booker's value.   However, the question is should you make a play at Booker?  The answer is of course you should make a play.  If you can get his upside without giving up much you should do it.  The real question should be who should I be willing to give up to get Booker?  For that I would be willing to give up any WR not named Green/Hilton/Landry/Kelvin Benjamin (I assume that was your Benjamin).  I would be willing to include Dixon with any of those remaining WR's to get it done.  Not sure if that will be enough but I would be willing to do it at that price point.  I could also probably be talked into a Kelvin for Booker straight up deal as well.  You have the WR depth to cover the loss of KB.

I threw a new wrinkle in at the bottom, so please don't ignore due to length.

Thank you both for your thorough responses!  That's what I was looking for!  In terms of keeper rules, we keep one in the round we drafted them indefinitely.  Although Zeke is, and will be great, he's not a lock for me next year because I took him in the first round.  It would depend on what my draft position is next year, as well as the end of year performance.  There are numerous other options based on how this season goes, and where I pick next year, such as Green in the 2nd, or even Wentz in the 17th.  It really depends on who I think could be there for me, do I want the potential top RB for the next few years, or do I just want the best value?  That being said, you're exactly right, who knows what Booker will be this year, let alone next year!  I was just going on the "what if" scenario since I have so much depth at WR.

You're right about going for the win now, that's why I'm debating if I'm really making my team weaker by trading depth for a potential star.  Normally I don't like trading away depth, but the way I see it is this.  Zeke, AJ, and Hilton are probably never sitting from here on out, except for byes.  That means I'm filling the fourth slot with Michael, Landry, K.Benjamin (correct assumption), Diggs, Thomas, or Montgomery.  Really it probably just comes down to the first three listed.  Either way, I think have enough depth to trade some away and still have depth.  I like the thought of KB straight or a lesser WR paired with Dixon.  Although I think Dixon could be like the Booker situation once his playtime increases.

As I'm reading and writing all this, I'm wondering if I'm focusing on the wrong thing.  Maybe I should trade that depth to improve my QB situation (Bortles, Wentz, Taylor) to improve my chances this year (thanks fightingillini).

Thanks for reading, and hopefully responding.  I love hearing everyone's thoughts!

Now that there is clarity with Booker (CJA being placed on IR) his price tag just went up.  I would doubt you could get him for the offers we spoke about earlier in the thread, however if the owner is willing to move him for any of those WR's and Dixon I would do that as fast as you can.  Booker will be a top 15 RB the rest of the season.

I do not believe Dixon is anywhere near Booker for this year.  Dixon is obviously still affected by this injured knee so I don't expect him to be useful until next year.  Baltimore is running well with West so there is no reason for Dixon to get much work and even if West were to go down I don't think Dixon is healthy enough to be a factor based on the eye test of watching him play.

I don't think your focus is wrong because getting Booker at this point is just gathering talent/opportunity which is never a bad thing.  I do think you need some help at QB but those are usually easier to acquire.  Not knowing what options are out there it is difficult to craft a QB trade scenario.
