Should the Jets try their hardest to get Rivers? (1 Viewer)

They could be Superbowl favorites if they do. Rivers with Marshall, Decker, Amaro, Ivory and Ridley could be pretty good with the defense looking tough again. Jets trading for Marshall to go with Decker and resigning Revis and Cro tell me they want to win now.

Jets should trade up for pick 2 since they have pick 6 then move that for Rivers and a later first and then some. Rivers looks like a pretty good bet to leave San Diego and if the Jets miss out on Mariota, Winston and Rivers with all three out there and with in reach of a team with the 6th pick and ammo to land one is a colossal failure.

I'd still pick them third in their own division.
I don't think adding Rivers makes them Super Bowl favorites, but they'd challenge for the division if they had him. Their defense is on par with the Bills and Rivers is far better than Cassell. Pats would still be the favorites for the division, but their defense took some hits and they've lost Shane Vereen on offense and have yet to add anyone of note.

Nevertheless, it's not going to happen. Rivers wants to live in the South from everything I've read. Any trade for him would be contingent on him signing a long term deal so he holds the cards.

I don't think it would be a great fit. Rivers really shines in an environment of "known". He appears firey but he's not a guy to come to the Big Apple and command all those personalities. He excels at the deep ball and I'm not sure about how that would work. I guess Brandon marshall could be a pseudo version of Gates but I think overall Rivers needs to stay where he is to be his best. Perhaps in Houston, he would be very interesting also.

The Jets, on the other hand, I think, simply must lie in the bed they have made with their recent QB decisions. It's a shame, really, because even if they had a Chad Pennington-type...maybe if THEY had Cassell even, they could be a legit topic of contention.

Fitzpatrick is no worse than Cassell.

Maybe. I admit I am thinking of the version of Cassell I saw in New England and KC and the version of redbeard I saw in Houston, so I can be tainted but....

 although I do think the Jets would be a top 6 team in the AFC with Rivers, it isn't going to happen (ok, maybe a 2% chance)

The reason there's some speculation that Rivers won't stay with the Chargers is that there's some speculation he'd retire if the Chargers moved to Los Angeles.

If he doesn't want to be in Los Angeles, he probably doesn't want to be in New York City.

If the Jets traded for him, he might retire on the spot.
