Do defensive players even have a clue what they're supposed to do when a receiver goes of the middle anymore? I sure don't. You can't lead with your shoulder because you might still make contact with your helmet. You can't even aim low because the receiver might also go low in an attempt to protect himself. Whatever you do, don't hit the guy hard no matter what you lead with. Now you can't even lead with your hands. Did anyone see the Luke Kuechly hit last night? Makes a great play, forces a turnover and the refs give the Ravens with 15 yards and a first down. Those plays swing outcomes. Ridiculous.
You know how to protect receivers? Don't shift every rule to favor the offense. Remember when QB's only threw the ball 20 times a game? Now it's like 40-50. QB's used to try not to hang their receivers out to dry over the middle, now they're stupid if they don't. Even if they guy doesn't hold on, he's still getting 15 and a first.
