The irony of the entire situation is just hilarious. Here you have the most powerful and prestigious sports organization in the world -- they've started their own network with much controversy -- and they have a bumbling idiot doing play by play. They do this while they have an endless number of better qualified play by play people to do the games. They used one of them while Gumby was sick and he had rave reviews.

Not only is Gumby not good, he's been embarrassing.

Frankly, I almost watch to see what stupid thing he says almost as much as I watch for the game. Jake Plummer can't wear a Tillman sticker because it makes a mockery of the game and runs afoul of the uniform code...but...you can have Gumby being the front man for the NFL and that is ok.

Call me crazy but I think Deion's pretty good calling a game. Not all just whacky BS, he's got some insight and he's not afraid to criticize. Wouldn't mind just throwing out the play-by-play guy and letting Deion and Collinsworth go at it.

There's obviously been a number of threads on this (and for good reason). I just cannot fathom why in the world NFL Network went with him in the first place and why they continue to keep him on the air. He must some compromising pictures of an exec.

So they are going with Gumbel for a reason, and for any company, the reasons always end up being:

Me too. If NFL Network is willing to put a camera on Collinsworth so we can see his facial expression live every time Gumbel screws up then I think they should keep him. THat would be good tv. Otherwise, give him the boot asap.
