There are casinos everywhere all over the US now. Atlantic City and Las Vegas aren't as special as they once used to be.

Atlantic City has been in decline for a long time. Vegas is still doing pretty well.

Vegas has shifted away from gaming as the sole or even primary source of revenue. They now pull in as much $ from non-gaming sources (lodging, dining, nightlife, shows, etc) as they do from gaming. The sheer insanity of the strip should ensure its survival, but AC is kinda a dump in comparison.

The problem with AC is that there are quite a few casinos in Philly. It's quite a shame because you haven't met a true poker donk until you've been to AC.

Harrah's in Tunica, to me it was always the Grand Casino from it's prior branding, also recently closed. Stayed and gambled there several times. To me it was the nicest property in Tunica. 3 nice hotels as well I assume are all just abandoned.

Yep. Cotttonwoods golf course, Willow's Skeet range, 3 hotels and the casino all shuttered.
Most folks I know avoided because of high minimums, crappy staff, and isolated location (no other casinos nearby). I went but prefer the Horseshoe/GoldStrike/Roadhouse trifecta a bit further down the road.

I played a lot of $25 double deck there the times I was there. The staff could be a bit abrasive for sure.

Yeah the craps crews were a bunch of dickbags who would act like they were better than the customers and talk #### about everyone. Settle down fellas... you're wearing a satin vest with a plastic nametag. Had to really keep an eye on them for proper payouts too. Casino itself wasn't bad but just hated that you couldn't find a $5 table anywhere hardly anytime.

I remember a blackjack dealer there one time got really hostile over the fact a friend of mine mispronounced her name. In his defense, he wasn't even drunk and I'd never met anyone with that name either. She called the floor over after she drew to 21 a couple running times and he made a comment about her not being nice. I was like seriously that's all it takes?
You can't really find $5 tables many places anymore. When I used to live in Jackson MS and we would go to Vicksburg in the late 90's, most of those places had it. Even the Ameristar, which was the nicest of the bunch over there back then.

Atlantic city needs to clean itself up and promote the fact that they have a beach. Make the boardwalk something nostalgic and fantastic. Have more restaurants on the beach -- not just casinos and large plastic drinks. Family beach vacations or day trips with adult entertainment and gambling at night.

PA is now the #2 state in gaming revenue. The Philly degenerates just go down the street unless getting comped in AC or if there is a big tournament. AC needs to make itself a destination again.

This is just amazing to me. I don't get it. Too many players just playing the pass line?
Playing 3-point molly with odds you can easily have $75 per roll up there in $5 craps. Yet they'll let the $10 crap tables sit there half empty and offer a whole bank of $0.05 slots.

I was referring more to blackjack. But even on craps usually $10 is bottom game. I like $5 craps late at night when I'm tired and just want to hang out and have a good time.
I think they are trying to do that, even though they have a long way to go. They recently built a Margaritaville right on the beach and they have the mall thingie that extends onto the beach. But yeah, definitely need to focus on stuff other than gambling.

AC is done. Adding sports gambling would help temporarily, but what the state needs to do is allow the old Meadowlands to be turned into a casino. As others have said, the PA casinos are pulling all the money as no one from central/north Jersey wants to drive all the way to AC. Makes for a much quicker day trip.

AC hasn't had to try very hard to pull tourists since gambling was legalized in the 70s. It's family entertainment infrastructure sucks. It might have been alright if all those mega casino/hotel plans of the early 2000s came to fruitition. A major problem for the consumer was that since there were so few hotel rooms....they ran at a high occupancy and didn't have to cut room prices. Often times, it could be cheaper for a weekend in Vegas (airfare included) than a weekend in AC...
Maybe if the casinos take a hit...they can improve their beach situation, get some family dollars back in there and be alright.

AC needs to legalize sports betting, prostitution, and weed. Forget being a family atmosphere. Wildwood is a half hour away and already has the market cornered on good old fashioned family fun. AC needs to go the other way and give adults a reason to go there and spend moolah

I've said this for years. At this point, AC needs legal meth and coke.
That said, I thought a casino just couldnt "close". There was once, I believe, a process, one that never necessarily that has come up.
Things starting going south when they tore down the Sands and never replaced it. The Casino Control Commission used to make sure that money was escrowed, and sure, they tore it down when the 2008 crash hit but they should never have torn down rooms and a building that was not settled with a replacement.
So how can Harrahs entertainment just declare a license vacant, more or less, at this point.
UNLESS,
there is a deal for them to buy the adjacent Revel property which is superior and also more important to keeping the corpse of AC alive

It's their only hope at this point. AC will be a ghost town within 5 years. Well the boardwalk at least, pretty sure the Borgata can last, but who knows.

Not sure it will be a ghost town. It still has some appeal and it is pretty full in the summer. They just need people the other 8 months. It will be interesting to see what random, empty casinos in the middle of the boardwalk does b/c the shore is the one thing Philly casinos can't offer.

Plenty of other, better beaches and boardwalks to go to just down the roads in a better atmosphere. No one I've ever known has spent 5 minutes on the AC beach, not even on the boardwalk if they weren't going to gamble or a concert. The Casinos are the only draw right now unless they think of something else, but it's probably way too late for any major new construction. A couple will survive, but I would assume most of them to follow with the closings.

We do our fantasy baseball draft in AC, I think it's ok. There is a real ghetto feel there though, lots of characters or all colors and backgrounds roaming around looking for no good. Vegas has a seedy element also, but even downtown has charm while AC has almost none of that. Tropicana is pretty cool, Wild West and Ballys are decent. Everything else is pretty rundown though, lots of light bulbs burnt out on the neon signs.

I'd say more than a couple survive. No reason for Ballys to have had 4 properties anyways or Trump to have 2. I don't see Ballys, Trop, Harrahs, or Borgata going anywhere. Revel will probably be fine once they refinance their debts. You also have the online casinos which need a B&M casino which will probably buy something just to have a footprint.I think most of us agreed they needed to go away from family friendly. Sadly, sports betting will likely never happen (no idea why they didn't just opt in when they could have). But they could at least get legit strip clubs in the casinos which would probably help a bit.
But maybe its b/c I'm younger but I still see the draw. Boardwalk and beach aren't great but if I want a weekend of gambling and beach, it is obviously the only answer. Not spending a week there though. I also think the nightlife is decent. And the only benefit of the boardwalk is being able to walk casino to casino and access to the various casinos and nightlife is definitely better than the Philly casinos. When I go to a Philly casino, it is strictly to gamble.

What I see happening is that they'll open up two casinos in the north. One in the god-forsaken Xanadu and the other in Jersey City. They'll tax them at a higher rate and the difference will be used to subsidize AC. They should get on the stick with this though, as a Manhattan casino opening first would be game over.

How's Revel auction work? Heard that it could not be sold. Does a minimum need to be reached? Seems like even a dollar and assuming some debt on future profit would be better than nothing.
Worst part about this is that walking from casino to casino is going to be even worse now since Trump and Showboat were the ones in the middle.
