my #1 selection from Cohen ... such a gorgeous Euro Trash vibe, and the finest lyrics he ever laid down @Man of Constant Sorrow
They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom; For tryin' to change the system from within. I'm coming now, I'm coming to reward them. First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin.

I'm guided by a signal in the heavens; I'm guided by this birthmark on my skin; I'm guided by the beauty of our weapons.

First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin. I'd really like to live beside you, baby - I love your body and your spirit and your clothes. But you see that line there moving through the station? I told you, I told you, told you; I was one of those!

Ah you loved me as a loser, but now you're worried that I just might win. You know the way to stop me, but you don't have the discipline. How many nights I prayed for this, to let my work begin?

First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin. I don't like your fashion business, mister! And I don't like these drugs that keep you thin! I don't like what happened to my sister.

First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin. I'd really like to live beside you, baby I love your body and your spirit and your clothes. But you see that line there moving through the station? I told you, I told you, told you; I was one of those!

And I thank you for those items that you sent me. The monkey and the plywood violin - I practiced every night, now I'm ready! First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin. (I am guided)

Ah remember me, I used to live for music (baby). Remember me, I brought your groceries in. (ooh baby yeah) Well it's Father's Day and everybody's wounded. (baby) First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin.

And be sure to bring the monkey and the violin. 🐵🎻

I'll bring the groceries.  :bag:

If we have internet and I have enough juice in my phone and speaker, I'm going to be putting the shuke-spotify-playlist on shuke-shuffle© all weekend while camping and disc golfing.

47. Leonard Cohen - Dance Me to the End of Love

Such a beautiful song.  I know Hallelujah belongs in the top 50.  But my wife and I chose this for our first dance at our wedding.

I read years later that Leonard was inspired to write this by the holocaust.   :(

@krista4 chose Suzanne as one of her three songs.
Edited.
I know otb referenced another song for its lyrics, but to me these are as good as lyrics can get.  I'll let MoCS take over the analysis from here.

44. Sunflower Bean - Easier Said

Almost afraid to post this with the beat down I got from New Radicals yesterday.

When I hear this song, as the kids say these days, I get "all the feels".  It's possible that since WNKU played this incessantly 2016-17, I subconsciously associate this song with a big turning point in my life with respect to my wife's health and well-being, that I discussed earlier.

Or, you know, I just like what I like.

43. Yes - Heart of the Sunrise

I love how this song just knocks you on your ### right from the start.

I was never really a prog rock fan, but after I heard this used in Buffalo 66, I fell in love with Yes and a lot of their early catalog.

I can't find the actual movie clip, but here is a somewhat funny recreation.

Close second: South Side of the Sky

I’ve never heard it but it’s a nice song

41. Steely Dan - Reelin' in the Years

For some reason, because I'm a Phish fan I'm supposed to be a huge Steely Dan fan.  I appreciate the jazz fusion sound, and I like other songs like Peg, Josie, Night By Night, Pretzel Logic, etc.  But I just really can't get into them.  I've never owned one of their albums.

So, yeah, I'm going with this cliche song as my pick.  But you can't argue with the awesomeness of this song.  Also, in the late 80's there was a syndicated radio show by the same name, and they obviously used this song as their bumper music.  At the time they played a lot of 60's/70's stuff.  Man, those classics seemed so old.  That would be like listening to songs circa 2000 now.

Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river
You can hear the boats go by, you can spend the night forever
And you know that she's half-crazy but that's why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges that come all the way from China
And just when you mean to tell her that you have no love to give her
Then he gets you on her wavelength
And she lets the river answer that you've always been her lover

Suzanne sounds GROOVY!

And you want to travel with her, and you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For you've touched her perfect body with your mind

Hmmm - isn't that kinda forward?

And Jesus was a sailor when he walked upon the water
And he spent a long time watching from his lonely wooden tower
And when he knew for certain only drowning men could see him
He said all men will be sailors then until the sea shall free them
But he himself was broken, long before the sky would open
Forsaken, almost human, he sank beneath your wisdom like a stone

Did Jesus know Suzanne?

And you want to travel with him, and you want to travel blind
And you think you maybe you'll trust him
For he's touched your perfect body with her mind

Did Jesus ... ? No!

Now, Suzanne takes your hand and she leads you to the river
She's wearing rags and feathers from Salvation Army counters
And the sun pours down like honey on our lady of the harbor
And she shows you where to look among the garbage and the flowers
There are heroes in the seaweed, there are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love and they wil lean that way forever
While Suzanne holds her mirror

I shop at the Salvation Army too!

And you want to travel with her, and you want to travel blind
And you know that you can trust her
For she's touched your perfect body with her mind

I'll travel with Suzanne. But, my bod ain't perfect - yet.

I'm exactly on this page with you here.  Saw them in Boise about 5 years and it turned out to be a great show.  Reelin' was the best song that night.

ETA:  I can not stand Peg.

Great song and great show - I listened to it.

I reread these lyrics just now.

They are much better than my jabs at them.

Cohen was a genius. I'm really not worthy to comment.
