Have you ever done allergy tests?

Tl;Dr found out I am max allergic to weeds, DUST, and some other common thing.

Constantly congested that turns into sinus infections etc etc.

Now have netipot regiment, nasal spray, and pill

We still mask in very select places like airports/planes and other crowded unventilated spaces. It's not too often, but since we learned this from COVID, we've cut down the number of times we get sick drastically.

does anyone take vitamins and what is your mix anything else like that i hear you on the masks etc take that to the bank brochachos

I started taking NAC during the winter when I'm around people who are sick. I've had good results with it.

You sound a lot like me. I eventually got prescribed inhalers and basically have low grade asthma that kicks up in allergy season and cold season. A light kind of went off in my head when my son was diagnosed with Asthma and I realized I had been dealing with the exact same symptons he has for 40 years. Been very helpful for me since then and while I still get sick I don't end up coughing all winter and it no longer turns into bronchitis/Pneumonia.

Could be coincidental but i take Emergen-C every day. It's a powder packet mixed with water that is supposed to boost your immune system. Since I have been doing that my sicknesses have decreased considerably.

We have 2 kids under 7 and my wife is pretty obsessed with better eating and health. We've been taking Colloidal Silver for a few years now...at the onset of symptoms or if someone else is feeling iffy. I really believe it makes a difference. Especially cutting off a sore throat and more severe cold, when in the past i inevitably got to that.

I know that whenever I have sniffles or a post nasal drip, that neilmed sinus flush works wonders. I do it twice a day until its cleared up which if I had to put a number on it takes about 2 weeks but could be less.

We had a thread about this recently but most people don't need vitamin supplements. You just piss out the extra vitamins from them. There are some exceptions like Zinc may do some good at the onset of a cold, but even that's questionable.

Wife and I do this every single night together before going to bed. Whoever goes to bed first mixes up two shots of it and leaves one on the counter for the other. Cheapest "easy fix" you can do IMO

i take the emegencys every morning this time of year if they are helping i cant imagine what i would be like without them jeez take that to the bank brochachos

I like this stuff. They have different versions, this is the max one. I use it to treat symptoms and then the lesser version as a preventative when traveling. But I've been sick twice the last 4 months lol (I travel a lot).

My link

Anti-Microbial Properties:
  • Xylitol interferes with the ability of bacteria, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae, to adhere to the nasal and sinus tissues.
  • This reduces the risk of bacterial sinus infections and biofilm formation.

I'm prone to sinus infections as my nose is all busted up. i take Flonase and EmergenC on a regular basis, and that seems to hold most of it at bay. Still, I usually get sick once per year, and 70% of the time it blossoms into a heinous sinus infection. While hot compresses, steam, neti pot, and other remedies may provide some short term relief, the only thing that really works at that stage is antibiotics.

Does anyone still use original formula Sudafed (Pseudoephedrine) anymore. My state has it behind the counter now due to theft concerns. I do remember it working years ago in getting rid of congestion problems, the over the counter version seems to do almost nothing.

I have 2 kids in elementary school. Sign me up for only 2 respiratory illnesses per year!
Only 2 sounds like a pipe dream. I'd rather get all of the sick and have them remain healthy so they sleep through the night and can go to school and not stay home.

Brutal having kids at an age where they can't take any cough/decongestant meds.

Seasonal allergy meds, Flonase, bourbon, and face masks.
:goodposting: went to an allergist in 1998, he prescribed Flonase & Allegra. Have taken them religiously since. Not just during the season, all year round.
Do you know if any concerns around long term constant Flonase use? I’ve started using it more liberally but assume there are some downsides.

I've used Flonase for allergies year-round for a few years. I don't know if it's the reason, but I don't get sick nearly as much as I used to.
Yeah, Zyrtec here with the same results... though maybe I'm just conflating that with the post-Covid changes that have me doing fewer things in public around others.

I spent 2 days watching flights get cancelled in the Atlanta airport over the weekend. Countdown to sickness has started.

Spent time watching them cancelled?

Just hung out in the airport while my first flight was cancelled, then watched until the flight I got switched to was cancelled, repeat again. Atlanta had real snow and just no capacity to handle it, everything was a mess there.

I take a Claritin every morning and a hot shower. Save the Sudafed for peak allergy season (ragweed and hay fever) for me.

Also, you misspelled “meth concerns”.

Edit: and you are totally right, what passes for decongestants out in the aisles is completely useless. Benadryl or NyQuil might work for me, but I would have to remain conscious after taking them to know for sure.

Sorry about your ailments Bromigo I don't know that I have much in the way of strategy for avoiding colds but in terms of headaches my policy is to give them and not get them and you can take that to the bank.

27 years in and I haven't noticed any. My wife has allergies as well but hers are a little more than environmental. Anyhow, her doctor told her if you ever have to decide over which allergy medication to take, always, always take Flonase if you can't take or don't have access to other medications.

I'm probably programmed now but if I go a week or two without it, I'm constantly stuffed up. You don't realize what a difference it makes until you are off of it for a while.

I take airborne. I spit a lot, several times every hour. I take steamy showers, blow my nose in the shower and get every bit of mucus out that I can.
I also take airborne daily in the morning, I started this during Covid and haven't stopped. Seems to do a good job for me.

I have more allergies now that I live in SC.
Flonase works for me too.
At the time I was living in Columbus, OH. One of the absolute worst places in the US to live if you have breathing issues or allergies. It's pretty much a bowl that all the area around dumps environmental allergy stuff into then it just sits there. My wife had terrible issues during the winter there. Every year, right around Christmas, she'd get bronchitis which would turn into pneumonia which would end up with a couple night stay in the hospital, every year, like clockwork.

Since we've moved she's off all of her breathing meds and hasn't been to a hospital in over a decade.

And of course, I posted this and then got sick yesterday. Think it's flu, off to urgent care later today so I can get meds if needed before my vacation starts next Tue.

Haven't been sick in decades. Even stopped getting the flu shot after covid happened. Genetics must have given me a good immune system.
