Siesta Key, Florida (1 Viewer)

One of the best beaches in the world. Nice little area of "town" with some restaurants and bars. Not sure about golf, but with all the condos around I am sure there are plenty of courses nearby ... with real sand in the sandtraps. ;-)

Many times. Beach is phenomenal.

Siesta Key Village is pretty cool too - little beach town that has a handful of bars/restaurants. The Daiquiri Deck (think Fat Tuesdays) goes off on weekend nights after about 10:00. There's a couple other places right near there too that have live music. You can also go south on Midnight Pass if you want a more subdued atmosphere. Past all the million dollar mansions, there's a place called the Turtle Beach Pub that has an outdoor patio with TVs and good beer specials. Very quiet, subdued atmosphere. There are a few good seafood places around there too.

Also, if you're into good beer, check out the C0CK 'N BULL bar in Sarasota, about a 10 minute drive from Crescent Beach. I believe one of the big beer sites ranked it the #6 place in America to have a pint. Their beer selection is staggering and the bartenders are great at recommending beers based on your like/dislikes or any flavor profile you can conjure up. I think it opens around 8 PM - reviews and directions here

Beach is still very nice but way too many people. Traffic and parking was brutal too.

Would not recommend unless coming early and on a weekday when there's less people.

86 degrees + sunny + holiday weekend = crowds.

Go to the Bahi Hut Tiki Lounge before dark for a Mai Tai. One of my favorite total dive bars in Florida. I hear it gets sketchy at night, but it's my favorite place to get obliterated in the afternoon. I can always talk the bartenders into letting me exceed the 2 Mai Tai limit.

I hear you but a lot of people still have to work on Good Friday. I think this place just has gotten more popular over the past 5 or 10 years and thus more people. This is my fear for Sanibel. Time will tell I guess.

2 Mai Thai limit at a dive bar? That's odd.

Could be, it's been a few years since I've spent a weekend out there. Tell Dr. Beach or whoever to stop calling it the "#1 beach in America."

They're insane. They're huge and almost ALL alcohol. There's got to be 6-8 oz of booze in each one, at a minimum. 3 of them is like drinking a fifth of hard liquor in a couple hours. Many people can't handle that. Place is a total dump, but you feel like you're in an episode of Hawaii Five-O (the Jack Lord version) when you're in there. Marvelously retro. Also smells like a melange of old smoke and ass.

Spring break in Florida crowded?

Love both Siesta and Long Boat. You want to see something crazy, look at google maps from about Ft. Meyers down to Naples. The number of golf course communities is mind-boggling.

Seedy motel attached so you don't have to walk/drive home (never stayed there, never would.)

Seriously? I love that place, but rarely recommend it to anyone. I can imagine those used to rubbing elbows with the beau monde would be wildly disappointed.

Never that impressed with Siesta Key.
Not overcrowded? check. Soft, cool white sand? Check. Crystal clear, deep turquoise water? Check. Shallow? Check. Warm water? Check.

Good god man, the place is fantastic. Makes St. Augustine Beach look like Wildwood.

Ok ok. Sorry man. It makes St. Augustine Beach look like Ocean City, MD.

Believe it or not, I got laid on that beach too. Right on the border of Fenwick Island, DE.

SKOB FTW.

Pro tip - when I went there years ago, the SKOB brew was Natty Light :banned:

Is that a notorious gay area? I have very little familiarity with the DE coast, just happened to have a buddy whose parents had a condo in Fenwick Island that they gave him every summer so we'd party down there from time to time.

Wildwood, NJ. I didn't even know there was a Wildwood, FL. Is there?

 near God's waiting room (aka the Villages)

That's not that far from me. Never heard of it. Must not be a lot going on there. Unlike the Villages.

Cesspool

We should do a FL beach ranking one day...

My preliminary list, of the ones I've been to and probably leaving off a few, I'd say:

1. Fort Lauderdale Beach (include Hollywood Beach and Lauderdale By The Sea here cause all are close)

2. Blind Pass Beach (Sanibel)

3. Bonita Beach (Bonita Springs)

4. Indian Rocks Beach

5. Siesta Key

497. Fort Myers Beach

I generally like waves (east coast beaches win here), clearer water, not so many people, good parking, not too much traffic getting to beach, decent sand (don't really care if it's powder or sand-sand), etc.

Best beach in the country. I'll be there in May. The sand is like baby powder and no matter how hot it is, the sand is cool to the touch.

exceptionally. Fenwick, OCMD, and Dewey are all great areas. Rehoboth used to be the family spot with its boardwalk and large amusement park. It may still have that element but it's definitely an area full of pride these days. again, nttawwt

It's always been "full of pride", is still a great family beach, and is the best of the MD/DE beaches by a wide margin.

Yeah, I've always heard it was very gay. I was making a little jokesky.

Boca Grande is at the top of the list. Not another place like it in Florida.

Yes, Boca Grande is a cool spot. Also have spent a fair amount of time drinking and fishing on Pine Island. Doesn't mean Siesta Key isn't a kickass beach.

Lauderdale is awful. It's like University of ########. Like, I'm on a 168 foot megayacht. It's not actually my megayacht, I just, uh, wipe the asses of rich people while they charter it. But here, I'm going to act like an arrogant, entitled, rich kid brat anyway even though i'm 35, broke and owe my coke dealer for the eight ball he fronted me last night! Combine that with the meathead population. Oof. For obligations only.

If this is going to morph into a south Florida beach thread I love Delray Beach at the end of atlantic avenue. The beach is beautiful with lots of parking and when you are done there are tons of restaurants and bars. In 12 years when my daughter moves out the wife and I are selling the house in the burbs and headed to atlantic ave.

Maybe it's just us getting older but we tend to like going to the Florida state park beaches. They usually keep the numbers down to a manageable amount. Locally we'll go to little talbot island instead of the goat rodeo of Jax Beach. Last summer went to sanibel which was nice but our beach faced southeast so for sunset we went to lovers key state park. Tried going to Captiva one night but parking was virtually nonexistent . A couple of nice state parks in Clearwater st Pete area also.

I'm not saying Siesta Key is a bad place. I just like things a little more isolated. Sanibel is crowded these days but that's a kickass place. So beautiful.
