sleeper alert: Gaffney, a target in NE? (1 Viewer)

I signed a bunch of garbage WRs so far this offseason (Kevin Walter, Tab Perry, Courntney Roby) and think I'l cut most by Sept 1. But it is hard to ignore training camp; and I think Jabar Gaffney (like Jacoby Jones in HOU) has a real chance to be looked upon as the outside threat opposite Randy Moss in NE and at worst the first back-up when Moss/Stallworth are hurt.

Gaffney produced admirably for three straight play-off games to end 2006 (set a reception record possibly) because of Tom Brady and he has been called the Pats camp standout a few times for his steadiness since July> this has hasppened as others have hobbled, Moss and Donte Stallworth. Stallworth has great speed and is good in and out of breaks, but he is erratic, even if extremely talented.

Way too deep a sleeper or a potential breakout candidate at WR?

Moss and Stallworth are always hurt . . . NO ONE is drafting this guy . . . give it a shot . . .

Pats homer ... I think Gaffney will have some nice real world contributions to the Pats O in 2007, but I unless two WRs are hurt, he will not produce consistently. But based on the WRs you listed above, I'd say Gaffney has more upside.

After the acquisitions of Moss, Stallworth, Welker and Washington, Gaffney looked like he was going to be fighting for a roster spot along with Brown, Caldwell, Bam Childress and others. When people say he's been a standout, I don't think they mean he's going to be in the opening day starting lineup, so much as he's going to be on the opening day roster.

I will defer to the homers . . . who starts if Moss or Stallworth is hurt??

Depends on who makes the team. My guess at WR is:MossStallworthWelkerGaffneyBrown(One of Caldwell or Washington could stick as WR6)While Welker is WR3, it's more an "absolute" WR3. I think is Moss or Stallworth is out Gaffney would start and Welker would stay in the slot. Of course, if Caldwell or Washington gets the spot I predict for Gaffney, they would get that starting spot. But I think it's clear Welker & Brown will man the slot, and the other WR will play on the outside, same as Moss & Stallworth.FYI, barring an injury, there is no way Brown is not on this team (though he might start on PUP).

speaking of what WRs to get in case of injury to Moss.Stallworth...

any homers got any info on Chad Jackson

is he forgotten?

or PUP/IR bound?

or just suck?

CJ is a lock for PUP, potentially IR. Though I heard rumblings that he would be a highly unhappy camper if he is IR'd as he feels he can contribute this year.He is a fantasy afterthought for 2007, but has dynast potential, as he & Welker are the only WRs signed beyond this year.

Talk about loading it up for Brady, I really want to hear what BB has to say about starters and how he wants this to project. Welker wasa a great signing considering Brady and his specail teams ability, thas it is an absolute lock for the slot. Stallworth I cannot figure out. Washington is a trip, he has uncanny talent and a little league brain, cant see him catching on with this level of competition. Caldwell has done it in the past,
