Sleeper DLs? Backups now, Starters Tomorrow (1 Viewer)

I always love picking my DL4/DB4's starters late in the draft because you can always find good value. This was a good thread last year: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...102&hl=cole

Who are some sleeper DLs that are backups now but could be starters any day now?

I know there's c johnson, gaines adams,Alama-Francis and moss as rookies but any 2nd/3rd/4th year players that could sneak in like Cole last year?

if Abraham is out for a significant amt of time again, is Carrington the one that gets increased playing time?

### DL ###

These are all guys that I would target for DL depth who I feel have a shot of jumping into that DL2 range or better. They are in the order that I would try to acquire them.

Cullen Jenkins GBP (I don't know, but I like his chances for having a kampman type year)

Bryce Fisher SEA (looks likely that he will start this year opposite kerney)

Andre Carter WAS (make or break year imo, I have been waiting for him to break out for 2 years now, looked good late last year)

Quentin Moses OAK (should start for OAK immediately on a team that will be down all season so lots of rushes will be hitting the OAK D-Line)

Jamaal Anderson ATL (rook who could be productive)

James Hall STL (when he is healthy he is a producer)

Charles Johnson CAR (rook who is in a good situation)

Reggie Hayward JAX (may go late because of his injury last season)

Chris Kelsay, Ryan Denney BUF (you may have to wait for one to get injured to get some real value)

### DB ###

I feel much better talking about DL than DB. It seems DBs just change too much from year to year, but here is my stab at it. They are in no particular order.

Bernard Pollard, Jarrad Page KCC (traditionally a very productive system for both Safeties)

Ko Simpson BUF (not much competition, I would be more interested in who will play opposite of McGee though)

Adam Archuleta CHI (may be undervalued since he did not do much last season)

Dre' Bly DEN (may get opportunities because of champ being on the other side)

Fernando Bryant, Stanley Wilson DET (Tampa-2 CBs)

Aaron Rouse GBP (I like him to start taking PT from Manuel)

Reggie Nelson JAX (rook who has a lot of talent, may translate to fantasy production on the field)

Rodney Harrison NEP (I really like Harrison, he is a gamer, but has not completed the last 2 seasons, age has crept up on him, he could surprise though and should be available late)

SFO (Don't draft one of them but watch them the first few weeks. One of those guys [Walt Harris, Michael Lewis, Mark Roman] should improve with the acquisition of Clements and the drafting of Willis)

Michael Boulware SEA (was great before he got benched for Hamlin)

Eric Weddle SDC (love the situation and AJ Smith has gained my blind respect)

Using the narrow definition of non-rookie, clear backups today, I'd recommend Darryl Tapp, Justin Tuck and Stanley McClover. There are a couple of guys who aren't clearly backups -- Robert Geathers, Bobby McCray -- who are good candidates. And the usual glut of rookies who will need to develop over the next 2-3 seasons. If Abraham goes down, Carrington will rotate with Chauncey Davis and/or Josh Mallard, depending on who makes the team.

Rob Ninkovich depending on how his recovery went.
He looked pretty good at times at last years's TC. I like Cullen Jenkins but don't see him being a good tackle DL'man like Kampman just yet.

Kenechi Udeze, DEEP sleeper tho. Only 24, already 3 years under his belt and all the tools to be dominant just has to put it together, he seems just right for a breakout.

The reason Cullen Jenkins will be the DE on early downs is because he's better vs the run than KGB. I wouldn't expect Kampman numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had a solid year in the tackle dept., he's also a good pass rusher from the DT position so he'll get his sacks on obvious passing downs as well. He'll definitely end up in the top 30 this year with a ranking around 30 as his floor, imo.

Darryl Tapp, Preseason stats

Week 1 = 3-0-2 (FF)

Week 2 = 4-0-1 (FF)

3 sacks in 2 games...

Looks like Tapp's tomorrow might be today.
This also is a chance for defensive end Darryl Tapp to strengthen his hold on a starting spot. Through two preseason games, Tapp has three sacks and a number of other nice plays, which at least this week moved him ahead of Bryce Fisher.

“He’s very quick and he’s always been a high-effort player,” Holmgren said. “Darryl is certainly getting the chance here to show us he can be not just a pass rusher but a total defensive end.”

From what I've seen, heard and read Ray Edwards out of Purdue has been real impressive in Minnesota - and likely gets the chance to start as the RDE over Erasmus James.

Don't know if he qualifies as a sleeper but in many leagues I guess he would be unnoticed!

Cullen Jenkins has played outstanding so far in preseason. I see a down tick for Kampman this year because of the play of Jenkins and I think he won't duplicate his stats from last year. Jenkins is in as DE and on passing downs moves over to DT and still has a great push and makes plays from the inside. Jenkins in my opinion is a starter DL. Keep an eye on him - but I know he is drafted fairly high in my dynasty leagues - and or picked up off waivers last year already.ETA - I guess this information is pretty much the same as Blox - sorry didn't read his reply.

I like in no special order:

1. Tapp- This guy can play and has a big motor.

2. Jenkins

3. R.Edwards- 2nd year guy will high motor and great pass rush.

4. Q.moses- Having an amazing camp for a rookie but battling Kelly for starter. will still get plenty of reps as rookie.

5. J.Moss- Needs to improve against run but has a better chacne to contribute early because of injuries to line.

These guys have a lot of opportunity to contribute as very young and inexperienced players. Atleast two of these guys will reach top twenty status this year if not higher.

Without going back to old stats I believe he did the same thing last pre-season also. As did Bernard the year before he got the chance to start and blew up. Seems like this is a trend on the Seahawks. This guy is my biggest DL sleeper so far. If he starts I am guessing a really solid year for him, really solid.
