Sleeper TEs (1 Viewer)

For those in deep leagues, I consider these guys to be very good value as your #2 TE

Courtney Anderson - look at the # of targets for the Oak TEs in the preseasons. Shell just went on record to say the TE will be used a LOT. Anderson is the legit redzone target, and with 3 people on Moss most of the time, watch out for this guy.

Bubba Franks - last year is gone, when Bubba was not healthy. Now, he will be the 2nd target that Brett will look for in the redzone. With GB RBs not being that solid, expect Favre to continue slinging it and Bubba will benefit from it.

Ben Utecht - No Edge means lots more of the passing from Manning. Utecht has looked very solid in the preseason and could be a sleeper here

Eric Johnson - Everyone seems to be picking up Vernon Davis, but Alex loves Eric, especialy in the red zone. Do not be surprised to see Eric getting more of the looks in the redzone. His big target makes it easy to find him. And he has great hands too. Hopefully he can stay healthy

Desmond Clark (Bears) - he has been very good in TC (leaner and faster). No production seen yet in preseason but I think he will have a career year this year. Again, with no real #2 WR target, expect the TE to be featured more as the Bears play "control the clock" O. expect Des to benefit from it.

Most underrated TE out there this year will be Jermaine Wiggins. The loss of Koren Robinson will just make his numbers even better this year. He's underrated because he's a fat ###, but he can catch the ball.

Good one.....another good late TEIt looks like every team has a TE these days who you can stash away

Good list so far. I'm not targeting any of these, but the notes are interesting.

Kevin Everett is reportedly in good condition, and finally coming along nicely in Buffalo. Royal is going to be the blocking TE and Everett is going to more involved in the passing game. He can stretch the field, and he has excellent hands.

Chris Baker is in great shape and looking like a go to option for Pennington.

Tony Sheffler is getting a lot of dynasty hype, but he recently went undrafted in a 25 round redraft of mine. I picked him up after the draft. He needs monitoring but his value could emerge much sooner than most expect.

Ben Utecht - No Edge means lots more of the passing from Manning. Utecht has looked very solid in the preseason and could be a sleeper here
I agree the loss of Edge may increase the TE production in Indy. But why Utecht over Clark?
I have seen Utecht getting attention in preseason.....Clarke will go as a top 12 or 14 TE....this guy will be available late ....and it will be the Manning show this year without Edge, so every target is a legit sleeper, especially if Stokely is out

Despite the hype around rookies Dominique Byrd and Joe Klopfenstein, the Rams starting TE right now is Aaron Walker, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

I would not be surprised to see Utecht outproduce Clark this year. Manning seems to target him a lot in the red zone.

I don't know if Manning targets him as much as that as a defense, if you've gotta leave something unconvered, Utecht is the choice. In preseason, Manning is finding him plenty, but I wouldn't bet on that continuing.

Kellen Winslow will be huge this year. The Browns are revolving the passing game around him - lots of short passes from Frye, and Winslow will be a red zone target.

Haven't seen Putzier yet.
Totally agree here. Putz is completely under the radar - can probably be had off waivers and will be a nice surprise this year.
It's a pretty tight camp battle, and with TEs that often translates to committee. Kubiak is pretty pleased with his draft pick Owen Daniels, and he could be the future. Benny Joppru is finally healthy and the most athletic of the crew. Putz knows the system best and has the inside track, but I won't be surprised if the TE pie is sliced two or three ways there. Breuner is aboard for blocking, but he may be odd man out.

I don't think Courtney is very good yet I too am intrigued by the Oakland TEs being available.Eric Johnson-Nolan has some offensive set in which he and Davis are both on the field and Johnson is sorta like a full back or hback. I forget what he calls it. Maybe some san fran fan can post some info on thisI drafted Visanthe Shiancoe in the 25th or 24th round recently. The Giants are back to thinking he's a great talent and Shockey is just not as tough as he plays. Shockey has never played 16 games usually it's minor but the guy's hurt every year so....I figured what the heck. I don't think they get much sleepier than that...lol

i was high on Putzier till i saw his TDs over the last few years.

add to the fact that i doubt he eclipes his Denver #s with Kubiak there.

hope Bubba bounces back, had to take him with the way my bye weeks worked out. :scared:

Sheffler will be the #1 TE in Denver by year's end. He's big and has great hands. Catching everything thrown his way in the preseason.

Cutler to Sheffler for years to come!

does anyone else think heiden could be a decent sleeper? kw is coming off injury, admitting he will not be 100% and another injury might make heiden a top 10 te. i realize that sounds crazy, but heiden played well and put up good numbers last year

Heiden is underrated, but i don't think they will have enough passing #s to make an average TE a top 10 player.

I just finished my 3-keeper draft. Adjusting for the keepers, I was able to get McMichael at 10.10 and Troupe at 15.03.

For some reason, McMichael is really slipping this year and providing great value, IMO. I saw him go at 13.07 in a 4-man keeper this weekend. I was able to grab Troupe with my last pick at 18.08 in that league.

Although I normally wouldn't count either as sleepers, they are providing great value. I'd have to say Troupe may qualify for the "sleeper" title.

I do not disagree with you on this, but, Heiden was easily a bye weekTE2 each of the last two years even though Shea was in the picture, too.+-------------------------+

Shea (who is in SD and Heiden combined for decent stats in 2005. That is why I think if KW was injured, Heiden could be a very good pickup.

As soon as Edwards is good to go, forget Heiden.X - Edwards

Y - Joe Jur

Z - Northcutt

TE - KW2

Before Edwards:

X - Joe Jur

Y - Northcutt

Z - KW2 / Wilson?

TE - Heiden (when KW2 split wide)

Courtney AndersonBubba Franks Eric JohnsonDesmond Clark
Alexander: Of your list I like Courtney Alexander the best and for the reasons you mention. I think he will fall to late rounds. Franks: I wanna believe. But I am afraid that the two TE's that got playing time when he was injured last year will cut into his stats.Johnson: I am afraid to take the chance unless there is no one else on the board. I do think he will start out getting his share of targets. But how long before he hurts himself lacing his shoes up?Clark: I have pegged as a potential late round pickup if the draft unfolds and finds me needing a TE in the last few rounds. Especially true now that there is a real QB backing up Grossman. I would also add Scheffler to the list. He could end up with stats as good as any of the rookie TE's and maybe better than Vernon Davis who will not be the top rookie TE this year if Eric Johnson stays healthy and Pope and Lewis are healthy.

Itula Mili

Stevens is having knee surgery soon. Mili was already pumped up for a camp battle. It killed him to miss the Super Bowl run. Jackson's knee is trouble. Burleson is new. Mili is a good sleeper on a good offense.
