I was not impressed with Webb at all during the Shrine Game practices - he's got a good size/speed combo, but he's soft imo. I think he made the Chiefs more by default (Crap Thorpe getting cut for instance) than because he played his way into the lineup. He could produce some stats if pushed into action, but I don't see a bright future here
Herm does really seem to like him, FWIW. I saw him mentioned often enough in those Herm Q&A at the Chiefs site
Yes, Herm likes Webb. Webb is great friends with Herm's son. They played together at SDSU, Herm's alma mater, and momma Edwards sent Webb college care packages and cookies all the time.

Before the draft, I PMd Bloom and told him the Chiefs were very interested in Webb. A "friend" worked with Webb (sprints), and we talked with his agent before the draft.
I'm a Webb owner who watched him several times as an Aztec. He even tore up my HS alma mater way back. Herm says he drafted Webb because he gives them a physical presence at WR. Something they don't have. Bloom says he looked soft at his all-star game. There's a difference between tough and physical. Webb will use his size and strength to gain an advantage and make a play-- physical. He does seem to shy away from contact and play
soft at times - not tough? Maybe.
He didn't have a great camp and shoot up the depth chart like a few other rook wrs have. He fell into WR4 almost by default (or 2nd degree nepotism). Parker looked great early in the offseason and Green claimed Parker was in for a break out year. Kennison is WR1 on this team until further notice. Herm wants to see the ball in Dante Hall's hands much more than Vermeil did (we've heard this before though). There probably isn't much left for Webb this season.
Webb has good size and good speed, he runs good routes and has good hands, but you like to see the word
great in there somewhere when describing a rook trying to make it in the NFL. We'll see. I like him, but my expectations aren't much (mostly just hoping). He has a huge ego, and that will hopefully translate into a great work ethic as he has now been thoroughly humbled by the task at hand.
The last time I saw him he was head to head with Hank Baskett in Qualcomm. I reported here in the SP that I saw two NFL quality receivers that day, but Baskett was the one who looked like he translated to the next level. Webb has the tools but he has his work cut out for him. He is on a perfect team to dig out a future, and he has a big supporter in his head coach.
Rod Smith recently commented on Watts and what a very fine line there is between NFL starter and being out of the league. The reason I drafted Webb in rd 6 of a rookie draft is because Herm Edwards will try to keep him on the right side of that fine line. If he'd been drafted elsewhere, I would have drafted someone else.
