slow draft question (1 Viewer)

The slow draft league at phenoms gives 18 hrs per pick. Obviously, each person has to pick faster than that or else the draft would not be finished before the start of the season.

Can anyone who has drafted in a slow draft league at phenoms or anywhere else give me a feel for how quickly people make their picks. I also am expecting the draft to slow down during the day when most people are at work. I don't know if that is true or not, just speculating.

I have never drafted in a slow draft or played at phenoms, so I just wanted to see what you guys had to say about how many picks per day or rounds per day or week would be typical.

The league is 10 teams (deep league) with 24 rounds.

Thanks

In a slow draft... its good if you get a pick once every 3 days.. thats why I don't do them

I would never do slow drafts if I had to wait 3 days to pick. I can't imagine why yours take that long. With the preselect feature, the absolute slowest a draft should be is about a round per day. We started the staff IDP league July 2nd; a 33 round draft, we are going to likely finish today, which is over 2 rounds per day.I absolutely agree with you regarding the fact that you won't slow draft taking 3 days in between picks...that is just ridiculous.

He said there's a time limit of 18 hours per pick.....one pick every 3 days is exagerrating a bit unless you're in a slow draft with absolutely no time limit in which case is just dumb management.Last year we had an initial 14 team, 28 round draft with a 24 hr time limit per pick and I believe it was all done and wrapped up in about 3 weeks. It really depends on the group drafting...there's usually always 1 or 2 guys that use almost the full amount of time, but the others are usually into it and are pretty timely.

i did a couple of these in my day... in my experience my pick would come up every 3 days.. thats what I mean...

usually theres a 12 hr time limit

I ONLY do "slow drafts".

Too many of us are adults with too many responsibilities to find that much common time.

It is up to the commish to keep it moving by asking nicely for owners to pre-select whenever possible.

No Mercy leagues always average more than 1 pick per day.

I figured just by going by averages. We need 8 of the 10 teams to make a pick every day. Considering there will be 30 days from the start of the draft till the season starts. So if there is a few teams who like to take their full time, or don't show up, I am not sure how the draft can be completed in time.

If the slow draft league I am does take too much time I am just not sure what happens say if we are in round 18 and we have 6 rounds to go and the season starts the next day?? I could always ask the commish unlucky, but I figured his reputation is pretty good here and he has been doing this for some time and knows what he is doing.

I am playing in a couple of the phenoms leagues and I wanted to play in more but I could not find a draft time that was compatible with my schedule. That is why I signed up for the slow draft. The slow draft seems like it can help people who want to play, but might have schedule problems with the draft times.

I normally like the live drafts because of the pressure to make your pick in a timely manner. You have to be prepared ahead of time to have a great draft.

I was just trying to see what the fbgs experience of time with slow draft leagues were.

I'm in one slow-draft league (10 team - 24 round draft) and we can usually get the draft done in about 2-2.5 weeks. We have to go this route because we've got guys all over the US and Canada with vastly different work schedules. That being said, once the draft is on, everyone is on-board and we can usually get close to 2 rounds done, per day. If you're using a live draft room that allows for pre-selections it speeds the draft up considerably.

I'm in another slow-draft league that's absolutely painful, where we're lucky to get one round done per day.

Perfect summary...Too many responsibilities and common time....., especially for those of us who have young kids. I have 3 kids under 5 and 1 wife!! Last thing you need when drafting in a live draft is having to play referee with a 2 and 4 year old, change a diaper and feed the 6 month old, or listen to the wife compain your not helping and fantasy football can wait. HUH! Little does she know.

I won't play in a live draft league if I can't make my own picks. The pre selected pick feature is nice except things change and those selections sometimes need to be adjusted. Especially in leagues when I am playing people I take a great deal of pride in beating them...lolI have been switching to money leagues the last couple of years instead of free leagues. So for this, I am sure everyone else will agree there is no way in hell I am putting up money for a live draft league and not being able to be completely prepared and have no distractions, and I will be making my own picks, not the computer because I am busy changing a diaper or something. The pre selection is nice to keep a pool of players ready that you are interested in, however, sometimes other people might do something not expected and those players need to be adjusted.Anyways....thanks everyone for the input on the slow draft leagues
