Smith and Wesson S&P Shield 9mm handgun (1 Viewer)

Pretty sure this is the one my wife has (that's not a dig, it's not a "girly" gun).

It's a good CC gun. The one we have had a really stiff slide action to it. It's not terribly user friendly to load and work the action. I'd imagine that would lessen over time.

Just ordered one because it looks awesome. Reviews on YouTube are glowing, and it's dirt cheap. Can't wait to try it out.

Great gun. Was my favorite gun until Frontier Airlines accidentally put my wife's checked bag (with legally checked firearm) on the wrong flight and it went to Cancun.  Federales confiscated her entire bag because of the gun.  Refused to return any of the luggage.

Looking at buying this model for cc. After rebate, I can get it for $245. My previous pistol experience has been strictly wheel guns but thought this was a good price for an entry level semi automatic.

Anybody own or have fired one these ?
I own one.  The seven round mag is useless if you have non trump hands.  Solid gun and easy to clean.  I've put 2000 rounds in mine with no problem.

Bought one 2.5 years ago. First, and only gun so far. I don't carry, it's for home protection. I bought it because of the reviews I read, but overall, I'm not very impressed. It fired great the first time I went to the range and put ~100 rounds thru it. However, since that first range session, the magazine doesn't quite sit flush to the frame. There's about a 1/32" gap. If it was a car, I'd say it was lacking in the "fit and finish" department. Also, I've had it jam a couple of times with a full magazine, plus one in the chamber. So now, I just load 8 in the magazine (or 7 in the smaller), chamber a round, and leave it, so instead of 8+1, it's a 7+1 (or a 6+1). Better to have one less bullet than a gun that jams. I suppose I should've complained to S&W, but I'm lazy.

Not loving the safety - I prefer no safety when carrying, letting racking it be my safety. I have ruger LCP .380 that's my regular carry - I like it a lot.

I own one... it's okay but I still greatly prefer my Glock 26. I have decent sized hands and the single stack mag just doesn't feel right to me, not to mention the limited capacity.  Plus, the trigger is subpar on the Shield, IMO.

For the money it's a solid little concealed carry piece.... but as with ALL things pistol related, I highly suggest you shoot one before you buy. That said, at the price you're quoting, that's a great value. After extensive side by side testing, though, It never stood a chance at unseating my Glock 26 for every day carry.

Are you looking at the Shield 1.0 or 2.0? The 1.0 got a ton of great reviews but it was from a lot of people that fired it a few times and put it in the drawer. Whole lot of problems with the 1.0. I really don't like the way it shoots at all. Not many polymer, single stack 9's shoot very well. Most transfer too much power through the gun and into the hand and have a ton of muzzle lift. It's not a bad gun if you never practice with it, but then what's the point?

Look for the 2.0. They are giving away the 1.0 for a reason right now. About the best thing people can say about the 1.0 is that it conceals well. So does a tube of lipstick, doesn't mean you want to use it to defend yourself.

I highly recommend finding a range and paying the extra $10 to sample a bunch of different guns before buying. Just because it feels good in your hand at the gun shop does not mean you will like the way it fires.

Finally picked this up tonight and it's a really nice piece. Lightweight and perfect size for my little Trump hands. Can't wait to blast some holes in paper targets and see if it's accurate whatsoever.

Not trying to be a #### at all but, did you clean it well after the 100 Rds?

Recommeded.  I've owned one for about 6 months.  It's my go-to carry gun, replacing a Ruger LCR.  I don't like the 8 round magazine as I find it makes it tougher to conceal well. The 7 round magazine is too short for larger hands, but that is easily fixed with a pinky extension you can buy on Amazon.   Mine has factory night sights which I really like.  I'm not as accurate with it as I am with my full size M&P, but it's close.  It's obviously not as soft shooting as the full size either, but the recoil is night and day better than Kahr's single stack 9mm.  No malfunctions after a couple hundred rounds.  I use a Comp-Tac Infidel Ultra Max IWB holster, which I'd also recommend.

Going to start the cc process. I was poking around looking for options and this looks like an early favorite. Mostly good reviews. Any thoughts on 9mm vs .40 with this as I see those are options.

Going to get a good ole Colt M1911 for fun and home defense. Too much for c.f. though.

Honestly curious why you're going cc. I live in the suburbs and never feel in danger for my life and see no need to carry. What's your concern?

If you lived in a free state you wouldn't need to pay a government fee to get a permit to exercise your constitutional right.

Cheap gun not total crap I give it a meh.

Did Frontier reimburse you?

It was a battle.  Happened mid February.  Didn't get the final check until May.  They sent us 3 different checks because they tried to undervalue everything she had.  It took a lot of fighting with them, threatening to get the NRA involved and even contacted one of our senators.  They ended up getting close enough to what the value of her stuff so we dropped it.

I would definitely test fire one first.

Love my smith and Wesson 629 .44 revolver

But I absolutely can't stand the trigger pull on the Shield.  Wouldn't carry one if it were free.

No particular reason other than the world seems to be getting crazier and crazier by the day. I have never actually been in a situation that would have required me to pull a cc weapon but just like at home, you don't need one until you need one. I am not fearful that something will happen but I guess it is that couple years of Boy Scouts in me- I like to be prepared in case I need it. I figure it is a small monetary investment to protect my family so why not?

No one that isn't law enforcement should be allowed to have a concealed carry.  Get some pepper spray and a ninja star.  Almost every one I know who has or wants a concealed carry (and I know many) are ####### loons.  Afraid of their own shadow, completely unable to understand situational awareness.

Not saying that is you though.

As far as the firearm, it's a decent starter 9mm and good for the range.  It's a good under the pillow gun, good at close range.

If any of you cowboys want a CC because you're paranoid and unable to handle things, buy a Glock for the weight and water resistance.  If you are a woman, and women have more reason to CC, then I'd go with the S&W because it would fit nicely in your purse.  If you are worried about your perfume spilling on the weapon, go with a Glock.

No seriously, recoil on a 9mm is a #####, even on a baby like this.  You can't shoot anyone with this, just buy a shotgun.  gllllllllllllllllll

This guy disagrees, and likes the S&W to carry in his "gym shorts."  :lmao:

Yeah, that's something I never really understood.  For those with CC permits, are you carrying every single day?  Like to the grocery store, to work, to Starbucks in case it goes down when emo Jeffrey messes up your latte, etc etc?

I went with the Glock 26. Don't have my CC permit yet, not sure if I'm going to get one. The nice thing about the glock is that I can go with the standard 10 round clip, 10 round with finger extension, or 17 round clip from one of the full size Glocks. (also have the grip extensions)

Very versatile depending on what I'm using it for.

Maybe you should consider better friends. All the people I know who use firearms, including those who c&c, are solid people who are very safety conscious and practice.

Speaking of loons, Michigan House has passed a bill that allows concealed weapons without a permit and has eliminated all mandatory training for carrying a concealed weapon.

Did I say people who use firearms are unsafe? My work history is military and law enforcement, I know thousands of gun owners. I'm a gun owner.

What I said is you have no reason to have a conceal carry permit. They should not be allowed in any state.

Clear enough for you Sally Sue?

Yeah gun owners point to that time John saved the day at the grocery store with his concealed carry, but leave out the other hundred times John pulled a gun on you in the parking lot because you cut him off.

How'd the testing go?
I put about 150 rounds through it. For a subcompact it shoots pretty well imo. I shot it alongside my CZ-75 which is superior in every way especially accuracy, but it's apples & oranges. For a small pistol I can have on me when I go into sketchy neighborhoods, it's perfect.

I know you're military. I was responding very clearly to your quote:

"Almost every one I know who has or wants a concealed carry (and I know many) are ####### loons."

That may be your experience but it's not mine. I'm quite genuinely surprised at your comment.

That's my experience. Almost all of them have issues with paranoia.

I'd prefer we just let everyone open carry like it was 1880 again, cut to the case.

Yeah, that's gonna end well.
I'm not an expert on guns or stats so I'll refrain from too much interpretation. I just don't see the issue with asking people to get a little training and have a license before they walk into a grocery store or mall with a loaded gun.

I agree. Georgia doesn't require any firearms training for a CC license, just a background check. Seems dumb.

I just don't get the change. It was very very easy already to get a gun in Michigan. We love guns here. I've never ever heard anyone comment that they thought it was too tough to get a gun or that training was a bad idea. In somewhat related news, Michigan continues to have this "debate" on whether people should be able to bring firearms into schools. Protesters  have shown up to school board meetings and school plays with all kinds of firearms to prove some kind of crazy point.

I tried to buy a shotgun in Michigan two weeks ago and they wouldn't let me because I'm a Maryland resident. So they do have some rules I suppose.
