Some stuff about this thread:
When I watch the games, I rarely pay attention to too much IDP, or even fantasy. I am not the guy with his scores up on a tablet, and I don't pay attention to formations, who's playing close to the line of scrimmage (like John Norton, for example). I watch my team play, and RedZone when they aren't on, which is about the most enjoyable thing in the world, but isn't conducive to helping make fantasy decisions. It took a long time for me to realize I enjoy football much more when I just watch it all happen, and keep my nose out of the dang fantasy scores. I'll check them later.
All that to say that the snap count thoughts are mostly to find data points worth exploring in further detail. Player X played less than expected, Player Y played more, time for me to do some digging on Twitter, and see what's up. Observations on snap counts aren't to be used to make fantasy decisions, it is a tool to try and find the guy who's going to see his workload increase, BEFORE he has the breakout game. Observation from watching the game are invaluable, please chime in. I know Bostic played a lot for Indy, but I dunno if he played well. I can see a player only played 43%, but I dunno if he was banged up, and left the field for a bit.
I mainly started doing this because I felt like the IDP coverage internet-wide was lacking. I don't think this is going to change much. I don't think IDP is growing, I think it's probably shrinking in popularity. With DFS, I assume people don't bother. Which is frustrating, but is also an opportunity. IDP is the kind of league where you can outwork your opponents. DFS and regular redraft leagues, there's plenty out there, and everyone's reading the same stuff. Consider this: The FBG IDP Twitter list has LESS THAN 60 subscribers. Sigmund Bloom has 70,000.
Resources (I may put this in first post):
Twitter--Don't use Twitter much? Well, Mr. Generation X, put down the hackey sack and get with the program. Just searching for a player on Twitter is very helpful.
https://twitter.com/massraider/lists/idp Twitter list I made for IDP. It combines the best from the FBG and other fantasy sites. I am scrolling this timeline more than the Shark Pool now. It is unusual for me to NOT find something on this timeline that is very helpful every day.
NFL Game Pass Can replay every game, regular and condensed, meaning you can watch a whole game in 30 minutes. You can also search a player, and see any play he was involved in. It's a hundred bucks, if you play for decent money, it's necessary.
Gamebooks Seem to have the snap counts quickest, but not as user friendly as
FBG. With FBG you can adjust the data to make it more helpful.
SportsSpyder Someone in the Shark Pool listed it as a resource once, and I feel like it's my own little secret. It collects link for articles written about every team, and includes all the Bleacher Report and all those amateur writing sites, FanSided, and that type stuff. Going to individual players will search their names and it's the best site to see what
everyone is saying about players. Bear in mind, a lot of these writers are just fans, so grain of salt and all that.
NYJ/BUF--So if you look at the Jets box scores, the first four names listed are Davis/Lee/Maye/Adams. If you asked me to list the Jets top tacklers this season, these are the names I'd give you. No major surprises, right? With Richardson gone, we can count on Leo Williams and Mo Wilkerson to play a ton all year which they did. In CB-required leagues, Skrine and Claiborne didn't do much, but once the Jets play a team with a better offense (soo, every other game this year?) they are going to be on the field a lot and get more tackles. I am bullish on them as season long starters.
For the Bills, you have two notable snap counts. Lorenzo Alexander at 43%, and Ramon Humber at 98% (Preston Brown at 100%, expected). Ramon Humber, you remember him, IDP dawgs were sniffing around him for the Giants a year or so ago. Humber was credited with 12 solos in a game where the Bills were on the field for only 58 plays. WOW. Micah Hyde was the SS we were expecting, and at CB
Tredavious White was the only one who played 100%. Doesn't he return kicks occasionally? White might be a nice add moving forward.
ATL/BUF-- I may have rushed past that last game, cause there's a lot to talk about in this one. ATL LB snap counts: D. Jones 100%. Riley 73%. Campbell 70%. What I want to see is how often the Bears were in 3+ wide sets. I have a feeling it wasn't that often, considering the Bears have no wide receivers. This is a game to rewatch, and see who played in the nickel. If it was Riley, that's good news moving forward. Grady Jarrett played 75% at DT. Vic Beasley only played 45%, I've not seen anything about an injury. Still had a sack, and looked great rushing the passer.
Danny Trevathan is back after a November knee tear-up, and played 71% of snaps. Freeman was 95%. I want to see how Trevathan looked when I rewatch. Freeman had more stats. I spent most of last year trying to figure out which Bears safety to own, and never found him. The starters were Eddie Jackson and Quentin Demps. Both played 100%. I feel like Jackson is more the FS, but I cannot say for sure. One more reason to rewatch this one. Bears have a pretty solid defense overall, I dunno if anyone aside from Freeman is going to be an every week stud.
BAL/CIN--This is one of those games where I think, ''It's only one week''. Are the Ravens this good, the Bengals this bad? Two teams I don't have a strong opinion of yet. Big news was Nick Vigil at 98%. Hopefully you stashed him last year. 9 tackles and a pick. Rey with 77%, and Minter with 58%. Once Burfict returns, hopefully it'll be Minter and Rey that feel it, and not Vigil. CIN LB stats were inflated by the Ravens running all day. Shawn Williams was out at SS, so some guy called Fejedelem started. For the sake of my keyboard, I hope this guy doesn't become a thing. Without Burfict and Williams, and in a blowout, tough to make any confident guesses. But looking good for our Vigil vigil (

).
EDIT: Crap, I forgot my BAL thoughts.
If you have Kamalei Correa, it's a little disappointing. Only played 44%. Mosley played his 100%, an it seems like Onwasaur and Correa were plantooning. Will do some digging. With Jefferson, Weddle, and Mosley, might not be much gold in them thar hills. Ravens also have a ton of edge guys that are all interesting, but who knows how it'll shake out. Z'Darius Smith, Tyus Bowser, Matt Judon, Terrel Suggs, they all playing. That's some solid edge guys there.
Add more games later, I wonder if this isn't better way to do it, few games at a time.
