DL Chris Smith signed to the active roster from the practice squad.

WR Tom Kennedy and DL Kyle Peko Elevated from the Practice Squad to the Active/Inactive list.

I'm a big fan of both these draft classes. Verse & Fiske - teammates at FSU - will start for the Rams Week 1, while Terrion Arnold will be opposite Carlton Davis at CB for the Lions.

Both teams have rookie kickers - the highly acclaimed Joshua Karty was the second PK off the board, while Detroit signed the local UFL K, UDFA Jake Bates.

Detroit is a popular pick to advance to their first Super Bowl. It's worth noting the perennial dormats last won consecutive division titles 70 years ago, when the NFL had 12 teams - 2 were west of the Mississippi - and televised games were carried by something called the Dumont Television Network (18 affiliates, at a time when NBC had 120.)

The Rams are arguably stronger than the team that finished 2023 by going 7-1 after the bye week, making the playoffs for the 5th time in Sean McVay's 7 years (77-49, .611). Still only 38, he is 6 wins away from being the winningest HC in Rams history.

Ton of fantasy relevant players in this game who will be in lineups - 2 QBs, 3 RBs, 4 WRs, 1 TE.

Are there any Rams fans on the board besides @dkp993 ? @Judge Smails ? Haven't had a team thread in years, can't be too many.

I'm hear for ya, GB. This will be a war. I'm sure tons of respect on both sides from HC to the players. Can't wait!

I don't think this game will be close at all. If I was a gambler, I'd be all over Detroit. I'd give away more than 3.5. But I'm not a gambler, so I could be totally off.

Lions are getting a lot of props this season, and rightly so
Rams seem a bit overlooked in some books I know

Goff loves to play inside and has the home field to tout
But Stafford is healthy with all his weapons so you better watch out

Lions defense is improving and could show the way
But The Rams D is in transition with no Aaron Donald to play

It's a Prime Time Game so it's the only one to see
And we know the players love to be seen on t.v.

So I'll give you my take and you can say what you will
But I think The Rams have to climb the bigger hill

Goffs Guys- 29
Matthews Minions- 17

Exploit/Avoid

QB - Stafford and Goff are not likely to be in starting line ups this weekend based on their ADP QB14 and QB20+ off the board? Shouldn't even be a thought and yet it is. Whoever you took ahead of these guys and want to put on the bench Week 1, shame on you. Unless it's like Daniels/Williams, I might understand. Purdy went undrafted in my 10-team league last night
I like both QBs to have solid outings, this should be a fairly high scoring game, rematch of Wildcard Week last year.

RB- Gibbs - yes, Monty - slightly unsure but usually gets plenty of touches, will be interesting to see if there is a seismic shift towards Gibbs with both healthy.
Kyren Williams is a no brainer and doubtful we see a lot from the back up RBs there Sunday Night.

WR - ARSB, Puka and Kupp, not even discussing any of this. Jamo? Maybe not week 1 but I expect to hear his name called a lot more this year.

TE - La Porta, picking up where he left off? I don't see the point in mentioning the Rams TE right now, seems irrelevant but Colby Parkinson is the guy this week. Went undrafted in several of my leagues

Defenses - Neither feels like a good option this week.

Sleepers- Jamo and both Stafford/Goff are sneaky Top 10 plays in Week 1, certainly going to be on some DFS tickets I would think

Final Score: Detroit 27...LA Rams 23
Vegas is calling for 51 so I'm playing it close to the line, Lions cover by half a point
I won't be betting this one, just want to enjoy watching my players perform, gonna be a fun game

Rams corner Decobie Durant (hamstring) and offensive tackle Rob Havenstein (ankle) were participating during the portion of practice open to media. Full practice injury report coming later.

Lions Thursday practice report is unchanged. Rams haven’t released today’s report yet.

With the Ram's best CB Darious Williams going on IR, the Rams Secondary will be sketchy. This upgrades all the Lions offensive players. The spread moved up to +4.5 and the OU is now at 52.

Also having their starting RT Alaric Jackson suspended for 2 games really shakes up their OL. This upgrades the Lions defense as they should be able to get to Stafford and maybe force a few turnovers.

DJ Reader is trending towards playing, but probably 50/50 at this point. If Reader plays, that spells trouble for Kyren running the ball. The Lions run defense was very good even without him.

Melinfonwu (S) is likily out this week. He was a very good player for the Lions down the stretch last year, but his role this year will be more situational.

I see the Lions winning 31-21.

Parlay of the week:

1. Lions -4.5
2. Jamo 100+ receiving.
3. Jamo anytime TD

For +2173

Rams have placed Darious Williams on IR-R; will miss at least 4 weeks.

Rams lost a starting CB to an ACL early in camp. The other starting Corner, Tre'Davious
White is coming off torn Achilles
Backup CN Cobie Durant is dealing with a hamstring injury.

Next men up are UDFA CBs Josh Wallace & Charles Wood.

Rams cornerbacks are where the Lions defensive backfield was in the past years.

Noticed much less buzz about the Lions this year. Eagles, Packers and of course Cowboys being mentioned more.
Bears have taken the limelight as the new exciting up and coming team. Lions have reached the stage where they are seen as a good team but people will sit on their hands until they see if they can continue moving forward particularly after the SF second half collapse.

Dan Campbell said DJ Reader “has a chance” of suiting up Sunday. He also spent a long time detailing what the evaluation process is like and what they’ll be weighing. I suspect they’ll err on the side of caution and just call Kyle Peko up from the practice squad Sunday.

AFAIK the Lions still have a 52-man roster, so if the 3 on the report aren’t gonna go they’ll be 3 other inactives. I presume Manu is a given, will be interesting to who else (1 LB for sure - they’re carrying 7 - but can’t figure out rn who else.)

I think this is a shootout. The over/under could be 60, and I might still take the over.

St. Brown is my pick to be the #1 WR this week. Fully expecting 30+ points in PPR. I just don't see much defense being played by either team.

Lions and the over.

Really looking forward to seeing the Lions defense and hoping for improvement in the pass defense.

Stafford returning is a bonus. Wish him well unless he’s playing us.

Both the Bears and Vikings won, but did not look especially good. Caleb is dangerous with his legs and has a great arm but little accurqcy and the Bear offense looked pathetic. Willis is terrible as are the Titans. The Vikings did handle the Giants, but Daniel Jones is also terrible. A win is a win, but those opponents will be lucky to win more than 4 or 5 games this season.

I'd bet on Caleb to improve his passing as he was very accurate in college.

He will get better, but it is a process. It is rare that a QB can come into the league and pull a CJ. He needs to master the offense, become better at reading defenses, and get more comfortable under pressure. It takes a special person to make it as a great NFL QB, and we will see over the next year if he is one of them. It is not always best to throw a QB into the fire.
