Sniper Fires On Officers In Dallas During Black Lives Matter Protest - Five Policemen Dead, Suspect Dead (1 Viewer)

I don't doubt that blacks are treated more harshly.  I've seen many reports that they are convicted more severely on similar crimes and backgrounds than whites by about 10-11% more (although...i wonder about quality of defense...but I digress and concede there is probably disparity...but I do wonder what is a reasonable amount of disparity, below 10%, below 5%, does it have to be dead even?)

I've also seen that men are convicted more severely than women on similar crimes and backgrounds by about 65-70% more.  But no one's ringing that bell.

Why not?

Honestly...if our focus is supposed to be on equality...why doesn't that enormous gap...much larger than any skewed report of white/black, stand out to anyone and cause shock?

What about men being killed by cops?

I'd venture to guess those numbers are just as shocking...if not moreso.

But no one even bats an eye.

It's more like running a campaign against pregnant alcoholism to prevent birth defects and having a bunch of insane weirdos scream about how other things cause more birth defects that fetal alcohol syndrome and drunk driving causes more deaths and injuries and the pregnant alcoholism campaign has no place in America until we address those issues fully and completely.
Perhaps if white victims of police violence were better highlighted and promoted, then public outrage would more quickly force a systemic change in turn saving black lives. Call it "trickle-down not-getting-shot-by-a-cop-onomics".

I would guess in those communities women are primary caregivers to children.

Can someone explain the disproportionality thing to me?

As I see it...and please set me straight where I go off path:

More whites are killed by cops

But...there's more whites in America...so, the percentage of whites to whites killed by cops is smaller than blacks.

"Disproportionally" smaller, right?

But blacks commit more violent crimes, right?  So doesn't that bring the numbers more in line?

You've  got ten little kittens.  Six are white and 4 are black.  Two white kittens like to play in the road.  One white kitten gets run over.  However, three black kittens like to play in the road.  Two black kittens get ran over.

So now I'm supposed to help you hang a sign that says, "Drivers...beware of black kittens"?  How about you keep your kittens out of the road...all of them...regardless of color.
Disproportionate is a buzzword catchphrase spouted off or kept from being spouted off depending on which way someone wishes to shape your opinion

Take for instance when it is not used in oh say whites make up the majority of cop killers http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2014/12/attacks-against-police-officers-are-in-decline vs 42% of cop killers are black which is disproportionate to their 13% population. http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2016/07/08/war-on-cops-big-lie-anti-cop-left-turns-lethal.html

Both factually correct since the FBI reports Hispanics as white when committing crimes.

It is all bull####.

Conservative: food stamp fraud should be stopped

Liberal: Food stamp fraud is such a small % of our budget it isnt worth focusing on
Conservatives: Pot is illegal. Two states are ignoring federal laws!

Obama: I've got more important issues to ignore.

You are quite welcome.
Thank you for confirming what people have known for years. That you are the banned poster johnjohn.

It used to be admitting you are posting under an alias handle after your original account was banned would lead to a banning of that account too, but I guess those days are over.

And Joe, if you are not going to enforce the FAQ then take it out as a pinned thread, please.

Are a pain for moderators. If you feel the need to create extra accounts just for trolling, this message board isn't for you. We see them; we close them. New accounts created in response to having your original account suspended/banned may also be axed.

Just like a good liberal wanting those who don't spew out your world view silenced.  You are obsessed with that person. You should get help.

Going forward why not keep a seperate notebook for suspected alias accounts

Guys...I just wanted to let you know that I did my part to quell some of this s%%t down over the weekend.  I live in Milwaukee, and in Milwaukee there are a ton of black people running around town (lots of Hmong people too, and Latinos).  Anyways, I was walking home from the Ryan Adams concert at Summerfest (huge music fest, like Lollapalooza on steroids) and I noticed there were a crapton of blacks walking home on my route. So I was thinking....why so many blacks at Summerfest (it usually draws mostly whites)?  So I asked one and she said, 'Kirk Franklin' (awesome Gospel singer).  I will admit now....I was pretty drunk and obnoxious at this point so I started to high five any black person I could find while at the same time exclaiming Kirk Franklin's awesomeness (even though I saw the 2nd whitest act of the night and not Kirk Franklin). I think I gave out about 30 high fives and everyone was super cool, even though I must have been really drunk looking.  So there's that.

Dude, sorry to burst your nuts, but the only other account I have is called Meatwad1, not really an alias, rather a case of me forgetting my account along with the email I used to use.  You don't like the fact that I am spreading white - black peace in one of the most segregated and violent towns around in the USA?  Come on, man!

What do you mean, right there in Ghent?  (I used to live in that area).
Was at work and didn't see it directly, and I thought it was the downtown, but could have been the midtown on the Portsmouth side.

Either way it isn't even a highly visible spot, just a highly obstructive one.

I cannot read the latest story, and get more upset about whichever ''side'' was most recently behaving badly.   Blocking an interstate for hours?  Sweeping onto private property and arresting peaceful protesters?  All sounds bad to me.

I would never paint all police with the same brush as the one I would use on the cop that shot the kid playing alone in the playground.  And I would never paint all BLM protesters with the same brush as one angry scumbag that shot innocent police.

If you do, you are guilty of the exact thing you lament from the other side.

The real tragedy is that every time someone does something stupid (no matter who it is), it pushes more people into extreme camps.
Well said

No. You clearly said its a continuation of the civil rights struggle stretching back to the 60s.

Do you think there is a moral equivalence in the tactics, the cause or the rhetoric?  All?  Any?  Would love to hear your clear, exact thinking on this.
I might well be. Unfortunately, it clearly lacks the quality leadership, and as things have (in most real ways) gotten better, the rhetoric and tactics used seems more out of line.

So now it is an AK-47?

It began as an SKS (pawpaw rifle) then it became (with some photo evidence) and  AK-74 and now it has morphed into an AK-47?

The below passage is from a 2015 Washington Post article entitled:  I was a civil rights activist in the 1960s. But it’s hard for me to get behind Black Lives Matter. I support BLM's cause, but not its approach.

As the rapper Tef Poe sharply pointed out at a St. Louis rally in October protesting the death of unarmed teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.: “This ain’t your grandparents’ civil rights movement.”

He’s right. It looks, sounds and feels different. Black Lives Matter is a motley-looking group to this septuagenarian grandmother, an activist in the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Many in my crowd admire the cause and courage of these young activists but fundamentally disagree with their approach.  Trained in the tradition of Martin Luther King Jr., we were nonviolent activists who won hearts by conveying respectability and changed laws by delivering a message of love and unity. BLM seems intent on rejecting our proven methods. This movement is ignoring what our history has taught.

The baby boomers who drove the success of the civil rights movement want to get behind Black Lives Matter, but the group’s confrontational and divisive tactics make it difficult. In the 1960s, activists confronted white mobs and police with dignity and decorum, sometimes dressing in church clothes and kneeling in prayer during protests to make a clear distinction between who was evil and who was good.

But at protests today, it is difficult to distinguish legitimate activists from the mob actors who burn and loot. The demonstrations are peppered with hate speech, profanity, and guys with sagging pants that show their underwear. Even if the BLM activists aren’t the ones participating in the boorish language and dress, neither are they condemning it.
