Snowmageddon 2022 (1 Viewer)

So the rush hour commute is going to suck. The roads are real wet and my local Charlotte guys know what that means. You can spit on the road here and cause accidents all over the city, these folks don't do well in weather. Definitely going to stay home tomorrow, probably Thursday if the models hold.
Agreed. I'm betting they let us go home by 3:00. It doesn't look bad right we but the air temp is down to 30...its only a matter of time until the ground is cold enough for the snow to freeze.
Yeah we were going to wait to get out but we were going to have to get lunch and I just cut my folks loose.

European model just ran and is now favoring what was earlier expected: Heavy snowfall from Philly to points north and west. Early predictions are still in the 12 to 18 inches range, with 2 feet possible in many areas.

Wow. I feel for you guys on the eastern side of the state. This morning they were saying that Pittsburgh may not even see a snowflake from this storm.

I'm jealous. My first year working here, I had 4 snow days. Last 3 years? Nada.
I had off all last week because of the two storms. It was pretty sweet. Expect to be off Thursday and Friday of this week. When Spring rolls around, I'm not sure how I'm going to get used to coming into work 5 days a week.
Are you guys teachers or something? I've been at my current job over 17 years and never once have we closed due to snow or cold.
I am not a teacher. But I can just as easily work from home as I can from at my office. So their policy is that if the weather is bad, best to stay home.

That said, the ice storm that hit last week hit my area the hardest. People are still without power. We had trees down all over the roadways and travel was not recommended. That kept me home from W to F. We got 10+ inches of snow Monday and that kept me home M and T.
I made it in T and F but I take the train into Philly. Train wasn't running W and Th. I too can work just as easily from home, if I have power which was not the case W. Took a vacation day.

I am not looking forward to 12 inches or more of snow and the possible repeat of power outages as more trees come down. It was insane W morning hearing all the trees in our neighborhood coming down. At least 1 a minute as I was out salting the driveway.

Crazy you had to take a vacation day. If we don't have power, it's just a snow day for us. I thought about turning off my computer on Wednesday and emailing them saying my power was out, but I thought better of it, since I barely do any work when I "work" from home anyway.

And that day was crazy! I went out early that morning and all I could hear were trees snapping. And not like twigs, but snaps that you knew meant an actual tree just went down. It was pretty scary, actually.

Started hearing the "pops" at 6AM that day. I thought it was some jack-wagon shooting fireworks or something.

Once I woke up and looked out the window there were about 5 downed trees, all over 30 ft. tall as well. I saw a few fall live too and it was pretty scary stuff as our house is surrounded by these big trees.

We actually woke up around 5 when the transformers started to blow. Our bedroom would light up with a green flash and then seconds later a loud boom. My girlfriend asked if it was lightning out. I told her those were transformers and we'd be lucky to have power much longer. That said, we only lost power for about 5 minutes the entire time.

We were definitely lucky on that end as I think they said almost 90% of Chester County was without power.

There is a forecast for my county in NOVA (Loudoun) for tomorrow's storm that has it narrowed down to 1 to 18 inches. :penalty:

About a mile away from us, those people still don't have power. It's crazy. Not sure how that works.

After Hurricane Hugo here in Charlotte my buddy didn't have power for over 6 weeks. The rest of the neighborhood was up in a couple of weeks but their cul de sac was dead last.

The grid is all wack and crazy, specifically in Thorndale/Downingtown on Lancaster Ave one side of the road had power, and then the other side did not. In some cases business right next to each other, one would be w/ power and the other w/o. So bizarre...

Lotta chattah' heeeyeh, but I have a feeling that NYC / Coast areas are going to get more rain and mush than anything else.

Looks like 4 to 8 for NYC. But some rain and sleet mixing in, so not sure how much of that will actually be around when it's all said and done.

Exactly. Thank god I don't live in the snowbelt that is North Carolina. :coffee:
The National Weather Service is saying 8-12 inches for us by the time this ends Thursday morning.

Same for us(30 minutes northeast of Greenville, SC). The ice totals have been reduced, though. I'm very glad about that, as the ice would cause the power outages.

Updated Georgia forecast: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/images/fxc/ffc/graphicast/image_full6.gif

Edit: If you live in the I20 corridor(east of Atlanta), you might as well kiss your electricity goodbye.

Yeah doesn't look good for them

Philly (Western Burbs guys). What's the latest? My girl told me she heard we are right on the line of 6-12 and 12+
Not sure about West but East NJ 6-10. And it's now pushed to 1am Friday.

My kids might be off 2 days We don't have enought days to take from

If we don't lose power, it's going to be difficult to function with this level of intoxication. Basically I've decided that we lost power at 6:07AM tomorrow morning if anyone asks.

Growing up in MN they factored in 5 extra days for snow days. 2x we went beyond that. When it happened, we needed to make them up on the back end.

We had none built in. We are going from being done Thursday June 19th to Wed June 25th. The next days start coming off the back end of Easter break. Most days we've had in a long time here, plus I think we have had 4 2 hour delays

right now it is looking to be 7-10 inches for the northern and western suburbs of DC. 4-7 for DC and the eastern and southern suburbs.

I am out of town on business. This morning I got an email from Delta saying my return flight on Thursday was cancelled and they were unable to rebook me on another flight so I was suppose to use their online rebooking tool. Except it crashed from the volume. I called Delta on the elite level number and "current hold time is 5 hours 38 minutes" (apparently not elite enough). I called the company travel agency and in about 10 minutes they rebooked me for return flight, a few hours later than my original flight. Received email from Delta about 6 hours later saying they were able to rebook me. Thanks for all the help Delta. Good luck to everyone in Atlanta that has to endure the storm.

This will be interesting.

NYC and long island forecasting 4 to 8 inches, though I saw 6 to 10 in some parts of queens. Not a huge deal, but there is still about a foot of snow here where it hasn't been shoveled from the last couple storms, and plenty of snow and ice on houses and trees. Will surely be a mess.

NWS has upped the totals here to 7-11 inches. If we get 11 inches here it will be post apocalyptic.
All last night, the 'bulletins" changed constantly. One minute they were 6 - 10 inches, then saw 11 - 14 inches, then it went back down again. The snow has started here in Rock Hill and they said by afternoon it will be around an inch an hour. God only knows what the total will be

WCNC has been the most conservative they have stuck with 4-6 inches for the last couple of days.

In south Gwinnett it isn't sooo bad.. All sleet right now and it doesn't look like it's sticking to trees. Still got power for now anyway.

North Carolina? Which part?

I'm in the house all day, and not sure I have enough booze.
Charlotte area.
Yuck. Fayetteville area is only expecting to get 2-3 inches, but that didn't stop the local stores from rolling out extra pallets of water. If NC gets 7 inches, it will be interesting for sure.

I'm just west of the western "suburbs" of DC, and we're apparently looking at over 10, likely around a foot. Got plenty of beer, wine and TP - preparing for a 5 day weekend!

Lived in Fayetteville for a couple of years and never saw snow. I remember the sweltering heat pretty good though. Still 2-3 inches is a decent amount. Hopefully you'll skip the ice.

NCC, were you here in the area about 15 years ago when we had about 12 inches of snow on a Friday and it was completely gone without a trace by Sunday? That Friday it was about 25 degrees, the NEXT day it was 60-65 and melted it all.

Yeah I got here in Dec of '89. I remember that one. I was trying to remember what year the big ice storm was. That was a bear. Was that 2002?

None of the 2 inches that fell yesterday stuck to the roads. I think we should be good. But the one thing I've learned living down here is that it only takes a little for bad things to happen. After the ice/snow we had two weeks ago, I saw a pickup truck flipped over in a ditch. I'm not even sure how someone can pull that off.

I'm almost expecting schools to be cancelled for the rest of the week. Which sucks because the kids were already scheduled to go in on a Saturday. At this rate, there will be no spring break.

Was that 2002?
yeah...either 01 or 02....before that there was one in around 93 that was a beast as well...it went all the way up the coast.
