Snowmageddon 2022 (1 Viewer)

From PA Weather Authority FB page

Ok folks we want to turn your attention from the current storm to bring you a breaking update to the potential weekend storm. We could be looking a possible blizzard folks. That's right folks a possible blizzard. This potential blizzard looks to occur inland for places such as Pittsburgh, Johnstown, Dubois , State College, Harrisburg, Scraton, Erie, Allentown and areas in between. This could ultimately be worse then the 1993 blizzard and models are currently saying 1-2 feet of snow is possible. Only time will tell if a blizzard will ultimately happen but odds now favor a potential blizzard for the weekend. We will keep you posted on the possible blizzard through the end of the week.
:o
Are they paid per "blizzard?"

Hats off to those of you that put up with this on a regular basis. Last week's event had our area at freezing or below for about 48 hours. I can not even imagine that day in and day out for weeks.
We really have gotten soft as a country.
 Because of my comment?
Yes. Unless you have nowhere to live, freezing weather is not a big deal. It can even be enjoyable.
 Born and raised and only ever lived in Charleston. I'll be 50 next week and I've seen snow maybe 6 or 7 times. (I can actually remember the first time I saw it snowing) I've seen temps in the teens maybe the same amount of times. But, 2 or more days of sustained below freezing? No.

I do like the cold and enjoy it, but only for a short time. I'm sure you get used to it, but weeks of it I simply can't imagine dealing with.

OK...now that we've made it mostly through the latest ice storm, what about this new weekend storm they're calling for? I've heard everything from "too early to tell," to "2 feet of snow for the NY/NJ area."
weather person just said the storm will be out to sea
Without ever even passing over us?
Thats what it sounded like.
Decent explanation:

All ice in the Philly burbs. Power out to almost the entire town where I live. Debating heading out to Wawa to stock up on batteries.

I drive a new Jeep Cherokee. There were a few Philly Burbs guys, anyone with power want to let me know what they are seeing or hearing about Delco roads?

Many of us have somewhere to BE.

No, "folks".

Up at 5:00. Shoveled 5" of "heart attack snow." Just behind my truck because no one is taking the ####### Scion anywhere today.

90 minute delayed "opening" at work. Shoveled another inch and plow deposit at 8:30. Drove Mrs glock to work and will pick her up later. Never would have got that useless Scion out of our neighborhood...

I live in Downingtown/Chester County and the main roads were pretty clear, but the back roads were a complete mess. Power is out to the whole area as well -- I made it to work today in KoP and there is power here.

JB roads were fine in Prospect. Went to work around 8:00(95s, 476n), everything is just wet.

#### this winter, I am beyond over with it.
Still no power at home ****....
I feel for you. I haven't lost power this winter, just shoveling and driving and freezing.
Yeah we lost power at about 5AM, house was set at 65, -- we have 2 young ones (2.5 yr old, 6 mo old) at home and our house has no gas heat (all electric) -- so heat is paramount to those little folks.

I had to head into work today, but wife is a stay-at-home mom so she stuck around in the house all day w/ no electricity and our 2 babies; she stayed with it until about an hr ago, and that is when the temp dropped 4 degrees in 1 hr -- she is now staying at a friend's house w/ the boys who, fortunately, has power.

Dog is still at the house and I will pick him up on my way to the friend's house and wait it out.

This sucks.

Awful, good luck man. Stay warm.

Really too bad that we can't somehow funnel all this moisture out to Cali where's it's really needed. Here in Maryland, we've had higher than normal rainfall for most of the last decade or so. I would hate to have to worry about running out of water.
It's going to rain here in So Cal over the next week, but today I was walkin' my lab in shorts at 8:30am...

By the looks of it, I'm not expecting power to return until tomorrow. We got hit pretty hard w/ the ice, especially because we are in a heavily wooded area, lots of trees fell.

Nada in Downingtown.
Yeah, that makes a little more sense, though I was mostly surprised because I am in Ardmore and still had power. Of course, an hour later, mine went and is now still out.

anyone with any tips for getting through the night, if needed? I'll be fine, but my 9-year-old daughter is starting to get upset, especially because we have to keep these fish warm.

Hotel.

Yeah. No power here in Bryn Mawr and there are trees down everywhere around me.

Peco tells me Saturday to get power back. Currently 48 degrees in my house and my dog isn't a fan (she has thin fur). Will try to make it through tonight and likely grab a hotel tomorrow if the roads are passable.

I'm fine with being Snowed in, but not without TV. This sucks

Good luck in your troubles. Dealt without heat for a couple of days, but not with real young kids. Your wife is a trooper.

Just saw a report that the potential blizzard for the weekend seems unlikely to happen. A lighter snow is what they said.

Have a nephew at nova and they shut down and sent the kids home. No power advised to go back to where they are from until Monday. Sounds rough

Power has been out since 3:30 AM last night. According to PECO there has been extreme damage in my area and they cannot give an estimate on when it will be restored. I live in a woodsy area directly west of Philadelphia. There are trees leaning over on power lines all over the place just driving around the streets in my neighborhood.

This winter sucks.

I'm one town over from you. Saturday????? FML.

Staying at a friend's house in the city. Philly is fine, it's just the burbs that are bad. If you are looking for a hotel you won't find one closer than Pottstown PA unless you go to the city. There are plenty of rooms there but I looked around for a hotel anywhere west of the city earlier today and they were all sold out. Sorry dude.

Update:

We stayed at a friend's house last night w/ our 2 boys and our dog -- they live in Thorndale and lose power a few times last night, but had a gas fireplace so we were able to stay warm (thank goodness). They have power there right now and they are safe -- that's what matters most to me.

I went by our house today and pretty much every major road was impassable, looked like a freaking hurricane rolled through all of the down trees/powerlines/branches. I finally made it to the house after an hr's worth of detours (normally a 10-15 min. jaunt from Thorndale to D-Town) and saw that no where had power near us except grocery store (I suspect they have backup generators to protect their food product). House was a balmy 51 and water was not frozen and worked (THANK GOD) -- I went ahead and turned of the water main to my house and have the faucets on a drip (the upstairs were already drained by the time I tested everything).

I have checked with PECO and they are estimating our power will be restored by Sunday. Wonderful. Checked with my cousins who live in the area (Lionville & Thorndale/Coatesville) and they are not expected to get power until Sunday as well. Had a trip planned out to visit my parents in Pittsburgh but my dad is saying that there is a chance of a snow storm Sunday AM; we really want to make the trip to PIT as we'd be more comfortable there than at our friends, but at the same time the last thing I want to do right now is to try and commute back to PHI in a snowstorm w/ an infant and a toddler on Sunday.

Winter sucks.

JB report back, how are you holding up over there?

POWER has returned. I have no idea why. Can't even leave my street because of a wire hanging in the road.

Came back around 10 AM this morning. Temperature in the house was about 40 degrees. Thanks for checking in and thanks for the PM Quinn. I'm all good my brothers.

Anyone see the video of the power line on fire in Radnor from this morning? Crazy.

I will offer to buy my powerless main line brethren a beer at Tired Hands at a time of their choosing.

Central California got a bunch of desperately-needed heavy rain today.

Technically Delaware. I'm in Haverford. I drove home from work last night to check on the house. It was worse than Wednesday. Roads were closed everywhere and I once stupidly ignored a road closed barrier and drove through KOP Road where there were 2 trees hanging from one side of the road to the other. I'm in Philly now and I guess I'll stay here until I get positive confirmation my power is back on from my neighbors who smartly have a generator. PECO is saying 11 PM tonight for me, but I know some people at work where the website said they were supposed to get it back last night and never got their power.

I was just astonished that the drive yesterday was worse than Wednesday. Sproul Rd was completely closed last night and I drove on it fine Wednesday night. And my road had an enormous tree that went down at some point yesterday and they closed half of the road. More trees are coming down, it would appear.
