Snowmageddon 2022 (2 Viewers)

Local news here say the storm may be as bad as the one we had in 2013.
THE WORST STORM WE HAVE EVER HAD IN THE PAST TWO YEARS!!111
Latest NAM run drops 48" on Western LI. Even cut that in half and your overpriced SUV ain't going ANYWHERE.
This is a joke, yes? Everything's has the East end / central Suffolk as hardest hit.

Fwiw, I think a full Range Rover could hand two feet generally speaking. My jeeps taken some steep and twisty hills at about 18.

Curious what really is too much snow for a full on Jeep or RR

Probably whatever depth keeps the wheels from finding the pavement. 18-24".

THIS GUY!!!
Sorry man. I won't tell you how beautiful it is today.
It was really nice here in Charlotte. 60+ and sunny. I had to take my Nike jacket off it was getting too warm. T-Shirt and jeans weather is nice this time of year. Sucks that it is only supposed to be 50ish today.

Depends if it's the light and fluffy stuff, or the heavy wet variety.

I had an old Jeep when I lived in VA. Lifted and 32" tires. It couldn't get out of my garage during the big President's Day storm in the early 2000's...That was probably around 2-3 feet...maybe a bit more. The reason was that once you got momentum, the snow just packed under the body until it raised the wheels up off the ground. It'd go a few yards, then pack enough, and get stuck.

I've got a Land Rover LR2 now, and there's not a chance that, OR a full Range Rover, are going through 3' of unpacked, unplowed snow without having the same issue. The Rovers probably have full skid plates underneath, which makes the packing even worse.

No doubt the media is going overboard on this storm but isn't the reason they are foaming at the mouth not just the amount of expected snow but the strong winds that will go along with it?

I'm incrementally more worried about the wind. You don't typically get power outages because of snow. You do because of wind.

I can stay in my house for a week or more with power if I'm snowed in. Without power, maybe a few days until it gets too cold for our 7 month old...and that's shutting us all into the room with the fireplace.

No, it's because they are the media and weather affects everyone.

Besides, there's not a whole lot else going on right.

Don't mess with my Rover, brah.

And no way we see 2 feet let alone 4 feet. I'll be out driving for morning bagels like any other sunny day.

tires....tall skinny snow tires are what is needed for a lot of snow.. Most RR have street tires with out a snow tread. My discovery with 35's and lifrt could easily handle 48". My old range rover with street tires....I would be surprised if i t didn't get stuck..

Betcher glad yer out the hills and down to the plains...

Trend is definitely less and less in NYC and western LI. Connecticut and MA will get hammered, but this is starting to feel like a perceived bust when NYC only gets its 12 inches.

My town is among those slated for the most snowfall in all of this. No way we get through this without losing power. I'm actually a little worried this becomes really untenable with all of our trees and power lines. The sheer weight of the snow and the wind could leave us without power for three-five days, like it did in October '11. Except that was October. This could get really cold.

Dang.

I really need Philly help here.

My lady is still "stuck" in Tampa and trying to figure out when to book flight home. Right now, it's booked for 7:30 tonight, getting in at 11.

Note: her car is at the airport, it doesn't move well in the snow. Even if the flight makes it, she would be stuck at the airport until morning if the roads are cleared.

I suggested re-booking for noon tomorrow, arriving around 3/3:30 and figure we'll have the best of it behind us by then?

Updated snow totals for the area? I swear Sheik is doing this to me on purpose for my Sheena Parveen comment last week ;)

Airport is in the 6-12 range

ETA: There is Zero chance of that flight happening tonight

Not sure why this is funny to you. Officially a State of Emergency here in Rhody with a travel ban in effect at midnight. The state police will arrest anyone who is on the road. Fun.

State of Emergency on the East End here. LIRR likely to close around 11, LIE could close whenever. Coming down hard now already.

It'll be even less funny when people start dying.

Obviously funny to him because it won't be that bad on HIS block. Because forecasters should know what the weather will do down to about a 100' radius.

Bender - the projections keep changing but there probably won't be any noon flights tomorrow. They should be able to get her on a flight.

That being said I forget where you live but there are trains that run to the Airport

Right at the notch in CT. Last night we were supposed to get 30", but according to Gawker the brunt has now moved East into MA and RI a bit and gets into the 30" range there. We're at 26.2", which is still a disaster in our heavily wooded area. Last time a storm had this weight we had huge trees collapsing around our house and also downing power lines. Yikes.

Anyway, that's all I know, really. I hope the weather gloom n' doomers are totally wrong and I'm a sucker. That's better than the alternative of dealing with this.

Thousands of people without power for days, you say?

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
The news in NYC has been saying nothing but "Historical Storm, we've never seen anything like this, yada yada yada"....

We are getting a foot of snow, media hype is what I'm laughing at - I'm not referencing Boston, Rhode Island, or any other parts but here in NYC, where not only is this not historical, but something we have seen about 20x in the last 30 years.

Yeah it is no joke when you combine that much snow with powerful winds - power outages coupled with hazardous travel - not good at all. T&P to the east coasters, not going to be pretty.
