So...I ####### MOVED to... Dallas? NOW ALSO THE ALL THINGS DALLAS THREAD. Review, ##### and compliment in here. (1 Viewer)

Planning a trip for the 8/24 Cowboys/Texans preseason game with my wife. Will be flying in to Love Field on 8/23 and leaving 8/25. Looking for recommendations on the best hotel to stay at and any must do’s while we are there. Not planning to rent a car (will be relying on Uber/Lyft), so I thought staying close to the stadium was our best option. Appreciate any input as neither of us have been to Dallas.
Lots of Hotel options right near the stadium in Arlington.  Plenty of homogenized restaurants around there too.  Where are you from?

CT. Would prefer to take in some of the better local restaurants, but since it’s a short stay, proximity to the stadium will probably take precedence.

There are some local Mexican places in that area but I am not familiar with any of them. Odds are they are decent.  There is a Pappadeaux near the stadium as well which is a Houston based Southern Seafood chain. But it's good, especially for someone not accustomed to that style of Seafood.

Staying close to stadium is a horrible idea tbh. That area is a pretty bad part of town with only chain restaurants.  It will also be hot as balls that weekend which limits outdoor activities.

On a short trip I would stay downtown Fort Worth (maybe the Omni) and do magnolia one night and south 7th the following night.

Dallas has those style areas but aren't as tourist friendly imo.

How is the drive from Fort Worth to Love Field? Should I reconsider no rental car, or is it manageable with Uber/Lyft?

I was in Dallas last month while out and about in the downtown, wow the homeless were all over the place.  It seemed really bad.

My Uber driver told me the recently cleaned out a bunch of the "tent cities" there are under highway overpasses which pushed them into the general public.

Horrible.

Dallas downtown really isn't a tourist area.  It also happens to be where all the shelters are.

There was a massive tent city under I-35 that they flushed out.  This IMO was political to force this as a mayor election topic.

This is not a problem that is unique to Dallas, most urban centers are dealing with huge poverty driven homelessness.

We're going to be there the weekend after July 4th. What do we do that's not blistering hot?
I mean depends on the group you have with you.  Options aren't great other than the museums and things.  Dallas isn't a great place to visit tbh.  It lacks a lot of the built in type stuff that Austin would have, for example.

Yeah, it's what we got to work with. I guess we could stay elsewhere and drive up for the show on Saturday.

Just Mrs. hags and I.

Headed to Dallas for some software training for a couple of days in January. Won't really have much free time (or a car). Staying in the Campbell Centre area. Any recommendations for food, entertainment, or whatever? I see W has his library near by.

That's basically by northpark mall which is, well a mall.  It's not a great spot to be without a car.  It's worth going to just to see the hot moms.

There are a couple of new urban hipster developments that frame you that aren't far if just looking to kill time.  W library isn't worth doing.  Go catch a mavs/stars game perhaps?

Well, I'm here. Nice hotel. Uber drove me through the ritzy area where Jerruh Jones lives. Too bad I'm too tired to venture out much. Software training for the next two days and back to Phoenix. Woot.

From the area (grew up in suburbs, spent 2-5 days a month in Dallas for work last 2 years) and my wife and I just bought a house in Dallas for our move when she wraps up school. Any advice on things to look for in the house (we're in option period still) that are specific to homes in Dallas/Texas? It's a new build, just completed. Appreciate any advice (our first home purchase!).
