So I passed on SJax with the 4 pick...AKA why a torn ligament is oft best for a FF owner

LT2 went when he should/does

then... like a draft out of last year

LJ goes second, huh (still not signed at the time)

then Shaun

I can't believe SJax fell to me (mind you, I had him last year, and have discomfort riding the golden bull two years in a row)

League members agasp that SJax fell to me.... mentions of how the 4 pick shoulda been the worst.

I then, out of the blue,....................... think Gore or Addai.

And grab Gore. So prophetic over SJax....(rollseyes)

Stephen Jackson's year reminds me of Shaun Alexander's... some looked at the injury as the off year, but the astute remember how much SAlex sucked before he got hurt.

Sjax before GroinGate...

2 1/2 games... ZERO TDs... ya'll remember that 1.5 TD/game clip dude sported the last 1/3 of last year.

3.4 a carry (vs 4.4 last year)

approx 3 catches per game vs 5 or so he avg'd last year

77 vs 95

2 fumbles in 2 games vs. 2 of all last year

yeah the o-line blah blah, but that more proves my concept/gripe...not that Gore has been great.

Best thing was him getting hurt....vs hanging/dragging on, so owners coudl make alternative plans sooner than later.

Often... the worst thing is having to hang on to a first rounder, week-in week out, either by hoping they will return to form (LJ, Shaun, FWP) or the weekly health guessing game/planning around (Maroney).

:goodposting: Great analysis. All of this was going through my mind this morning as I traded him away for Marion Barber.

Even if SJax comes back 100%, he was stinking it up before he got hurt.

Just doesnt justify why he took Gore over Sjax there. Sure I guess i was smart. But it just doesnt make sense. Sjax is a monster, whether the guy wants to believe that or not. You cant predict injury. Oh, and its not like he chose Addai over Sjax, he still took a guy that is falling waaay below what he should be doing.

I think it's a very poor assumption to think that SJax would have continued his poor pace from the first couple weeks. They guy is too good to not put together some good games.

I don't really know what that means, but grabbing SJax was the correct, proper shark move there and just because an injury and poor team performance have made it so that he would've been a let down doesn't change that fact. That's like folding a pair of aces in Hold Em and saying it was a good move because a guy who kept a 4 and a 10 ended up with a full house on the river card. You would've lost but that doesn't mean that it was a smart move. Sometimes things don't work out. He was universally ranked as the #2 player and at 4 should've been scooped up with a hoot and holler. Of course you'd be disappointed if you'd taken him, but it's not like you can be happy with Gore. Only way you could've come out on top is if you had picked Addai, which I personally would've done if SJ was gone and the choice was between Gore and him. You made the wrong decision and got a little lucky in how things shook out.

I cannot believe he took Gore instead of Adrian Peterson!!! He was available! Look at the year he's having!!!! :goodposting:

<---- sees 20/20 hindsight

I was #5 in serpentine draft and listed Gore then Addai as my #1 pick (First four went as I suspected; LT, SJax, Peyton, SA). No way was I taking L.J. but he may do better than Gore. If I could go back, I would have chosen the blue pill (Addai).

It wasn't at all silly to pass on SJax. If the guy passed on him due to a "gut feeling", that's not the most logical approach but there were reasons to NOT have SJax that high up. I liked Gore over SJax, and I might've even taken FWP, LJ, Addai and Henry over him.

Gore may not be a stud thus far, but it's like some of you said-things don't always work out. Don't pretend it's asinine if someone considered a player OTHER than SJax. Were you guys really counting on him getting 90 catches again? Did you guys really think he was going to end up with the most yards from scrimage again?

I traded down from 3 to 5(got pick and took Winslow in return) and took Addai. Still not great but was happy with both.

After the draft, you would've been correct. In retrospect, the move worked out for him. Sometimes, that's how you win.

Gore owners need something resembling an offensive attack to reappear. Their schedule is looking favorable to the run but there needs to be a passing (legitimate) threat to open up the run.

Your propping yourself for taking Gore over SJax? Im not getting this at all... Now if you chose Westbrook, or Addai, that would be a different story. Nicely said though...

If Sjax were available to me at #5 draft position, I would have nutted in my pants and definitely grabbed him. This has been a weird year for the RBs to say the least.

While I acknowledge the difference between RBs and WRs, that is what everyone keeps saying about Lee Evans

I think a better tone for this post would have been who you picked in the 3rd - 7th rounds - which is really where championship teams are built.

I picked SJax with the #2 overall - in a 10 team, 20 roster league. Luckily a backed him up with ADP, Portis, and Foster so that since I'm holding onto him I'm okay.

1st rounders bust all the time - real teams are won in later rounds...
