So, is there a "Big 5" this year? (1 Viewer)

After looking at the RB rankings, it seems there is an early concensus of Tomlinson, Alexander, Larry Johnson, Portis, & Tiki in some order.

The second tier of RBs (Lamont Jordan, Stephen jackson, Ronnie Brown, Edge, Caddy, Rudi Johnson) are all over the place in terms of ranking.

Do you really think there is that much of a dropoff?

Obviously, a lot would depend on scoring, but is 6 where you expect to see the RB run broken?

I think the "big 5" is really only the "big 3". I feel, along with many others, that there is a significant dropoff from LJ, LT, and SA to anyone else in the league.

Here is how is tiered up the first 20 or so RBs.First Tier: - Elite

Tomlinson, Alexander, Larry Johnson

Second Tier: - If you miss the top 3 get one of these; how they are ranked is largely based on scoring system.

Tiki Barber, Clinton Portis, Lamont Jordan (if PPR), Stephen Jackson, Ronnie Brown,Cadillac Williams, Rudi Johnson

Third Tier: Solid starters all have questionable teams around them and or injury concerns.

Edgerrin James, Willis McGahee, Domanick Davis, Julius Jones

Fourth Tier: Starters but if you are drafting one of these you need a solid cast around them. You might have gone Peyton in the first round and this will be you 2nd/3rd round pick. I know I am high on Chester but I think this guy could surprise several people this year.

Brian Westbrook, Kevin Jones, Reuben Droughns, Chester Taylor

Fifth Tier; The last of the undisputed starters but all have the potential to turn into RBBC.

Willie Parker, Jamal Lewis, Thomas Jones, Warrick Dunn

I agree that it's more like a Big 3 then a Big 5 with the Big 3 consisting of LT, SA and Johnson.

I don't see much of a dropoff from Tiki and Portis to Jordan, Brown and Caddy. I'm a little lower on Stephen Jackson here because I'm not sure what the Rams new offense will do.

I think 6 is a great spot to pick from though because you've got a good selection of Tier 2 guys and you can pick who you think is the best among them. You've still got a good shot at a Tier 3 guy on the way back too.

But is that 6 pick on a RB good value since there's a possibility you could get a RB with little dropoff at 19?Is there any way you look at Chad Johnson, Peyton, or Steve Smith anywhere in the first round?

I would have to agree that the dropoff isn't after those 5 or 6, it is after the top 3. After that the tiers would widely be based upon scoring systems obviously. I do see the tiers breaking after the top 3, then primarily after the next 4 or 5, then a big group of about 7 or so.
