So I've had a pretty bad morning... (1 Viewer)

Reffed some football games last night and my back is wrecked. I've been dealing with the pain for quite a while, but last night was the worst this season. Didn't know if I could finish it and barely did. So I got home late last night and woke up this morning very sore...I'm walking around like a 90 yr old man.

Then as I'm looking at the mail this morning I notice I received a piece of certified mail from the Missouri State Board of Accountancy. I know my CPA license is up for renewal and I haven't submitted it yet, so I figure this is something referring to that. Nope, it is a notice of hearing regarding the ridiculous accusations of crazy ex-boss (here's the backstory on this this guy). I now have to reply by October 10th to all of the made up crap he could come up with. None of which is true. Lovely waste of my time.

Then as I'm driving in to work my dad called. My grandfather passed away this morning. He had been very ill and my sister and I went to see him last weekend knowing his time was limited, but it still sucks. Also, my wife and I were going to a bed and breakfast for our anniversary this weekend and I'll have to call and cancel that because the funeral will be this weekend.

This is one of the worst days of my life. I've lived a pretty charmed life, so I'm not really complaining, but it still sucks.

Well, just wanted to get that off my chest. Have a blessed day! [/posty]

Sorry to hear that, GB. :(

I will say, for your back, there's always the hope that a round of steroids will help. Before my back got very bad, there was a time I couldn't move, just like you describe. I thought I was going to be in a wheel chair the rest of my life because of how little I could move. Went to the doc and he wrote a prescription for steroids. You take them for like 5 days. Upon popping the first pills, my back was back to normal within 10 minutes. It was awesome.

Hopefully, at least the back pain can be fixed easy. Stay strong, GB.

I'm glad you had a final visit with your grandfather before his passing. Hopefully his transition to a greater glory helps you keep the other irritations you've encountered in perspective. Phil. 1:21

Well, I haven't done much at work yet today. Thinking about taking a personal half day. My head's not in anything productive right now.

My wife has been helpful, but she can't talk for more than 5 minutes since she is a teacher. We've texted back and forth a few times.

I think seeing my family this weekend will be good. I love my dad's family. Lots of cool cousins and aunts and uncles. Not a loser in the bunch really which is a great testament to my grandfather. He was just a rock solid man. Worked as a carpenter and ran a farm (dairy/beef cattle). He was pretty quiet most of the time but when he spoke it was either profound or really funny. He loved to tease my grandma which made everyone laugh. He and my sister had a special bond which was always cool to see. We'll miss him, but he has been pretty feeble for the last 5 years or so. Glad his struggles with pain are over. I think my grandma will be a little relieved now too. She is in great health and will probably spend a bit more time out and about while she still can. She was always much more social than he was.

All part of God's plan
I believe so.

Coincidentally, I attended a men's Bible study this morning. The topic was handling the question of how does suffering in our lives and the world in general coincided with a loving God. Very deep stuff for 6am, but I am really glad I went.

Hang in there J.

In regard to the back thing, along with what Sheik said, speak with your doctor and see if they can prescribe some muscle relaxers and/or some super acetaminophen. I wrecked my back about a month ago doing yard work and that stuff really helped.

I've been through a lot with my back for the last few months and am actually on the upswing. I've been through physical therapy, injections right on the nerve (for sciatica), chiropractic and even acupuncture. I'm just not fully conditioned yet for the 3 hr double header I reffed last night (Freshman & JV games). I'm actually starting to loosen up a bit with just a couple of Aleve, but man this morning I felt like a cripple trying to roll out of bed.

Well, at least you're not chained up in crazy-ex-boss' basememt like we all speculated you were last year. So there's that.

Sorry for the rough time. It will get better. Life is rarely all good or even smooth,

Try doing stretches for your back a few times every day. Stretch the hamstrings. Strengthen the abs. Maybe you are already doing this or PT. Good luck.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic
I know. That's why I answered the way I did.
Lol I like your style. Keep your chin up, man. T&P

Sorry about your grandfather,

I can't believe your ex-boss is still harassing you -- what a piece of crap he is.
Seriously he has nothing to gain from all of the effort he put into sending letters and emails to the State Board. He literally just wants to see me and all of the other former employees suffer. :loco:

May want to try something a little less physically demanding...like stamp collecting.

They'll have to drag me off the field kicking and screaming (or on a stretcher  ). Best hobby in the world, IMO. I have aspirations of working college games some day.

Heard from dad a bit ago. Visitation Friday night, services Saturday.

Whole family will be there for the weekend. A large clan of Germans. I'm really looking forward to that part of it. There will be beer and playing cards (mostly pitch) and lots of loud talking.

Buried my grandmother yesterday in Rhode Island. My grandad's best friend of 60 years died the day before. Since I was in New England, my boss asked if I could speak at a board meeting for a large customer for 90 minutes, on a topic I'n not well versed. The guy who was supposed to speak got caught up overseas. I reluctantly agreed and the client was pissed the other guy, with whom they prepared for a month, wasn't coming. Called me several times as I was prepping last night and asked my boss to fly in last minute, which she did. Stayed up most if the night studying, then spent most of the day in a meeting with the nervous guy until I thought we all had the material down cold. Meeting was running late and they asked if we could reduce to an hour.

I started the presentation and froze in front of a room of about 15. Saw stars, got light headed. Started to rotely read the slides, struggling to connect thought and almost had to excuse myself. I could see the grimace from my boss and the guy who'd been nervous. The CEO jumped in and started asking questions and making it interactive. I eventually came to life about 10 minutes in and the rest of the session was interactive and pretty good. Overall, worst presentation I've ever given and really embarrassing to have to apologize afterwards.

Oof. Too busy to dwell too much on it, but that really sucked.

That's 100% on your boss. I can't even imagine asking someone to do a presentation that they weren't even prepared for while they were somewhere for a family member's funeral. That's bonkers.

Just remember that nobody will even remember it a week from now.

Sorry to hear it man, hoping for a turnaround in your fortune. The only upside to a down day like that is that things are likely to get better.

This my man. I can tell you as a courtroom lawyer that I've had a couple of miserable court appearances that were really embarrassing and which ate at me for some time. One earlier this year. I just wasn't as prepared as I should have been. I took the lesson and have applied it since.

Can't always perform at 100%. Peyton Manning is the best ever and has some crappy games. Happens to all of us. It's really easy for me to say "don't sweat it, let it roll off your back," as I find it impossible to do that myself in these instances, but do the best you can.

Sorry for your family losses, hang in there.

Yeah that would suck. Sorry for your loss Ham.
