So Long Tiki (1 Viewer)

NJ OAK

Can't wait to see him in his blossoming new career as a news analyst/reporter? I think he's a selfish jerk to be honest. Maybe he should have focused on his current position before spouting off about his plans to take over the media world. I see him reneging the whole thing and playing next year.

I think he's done. He seems dead-set on a broadcasting career.

Any kind of evidence showing that Tiki hasn't done the best job that he could?

NJ Oak....YOU are the shelfish jerk....and an idiot to boot.

Do you have ANY idea what kind of shape these guys are in after playing a full NFL career? He wants to be able to walk still when he's 45.

I don't think there is any chance he comes back next year with the season the Giants are having. He might have come back if they came close to making the Super Bowl. With all the meltdowns and infighting there is zero chance now. That team needs to seriously clean house next year.

I think what the OP was getting at was that there was no reason whatsoever for Tiki to bring this up during the season. And I agree with him. It was an unnecessary, easily preventable distraction for a team that really didn't need one.

I think it was selfish too. There was probably a media opening being talked about and he wanted to get his name in.

I am done with Tiki. Had been a huge fan for so long. This year, however, his whole attitude has made me sour on him.

Great player. Just below a HoF imo. Some of the better years by a RB ever.

But in the end, he had more brain than heart. If only you could have both. This year he has totally fizzled - seems his mind is already on the sideline, reporting.

It is time to turn a new page. Though I believe, in full time duty, Jacobs won't be able to be an impact player without having a good complementary back along with him.

:sigh:

You always do right by your family first.....and I admire a guy who can walk away from idolation, fame and money for the chance to crawl around on the floor with his grandkids when he is 50.

I can't blame the man for wanting to walk later in life. My only beef I suppose would be that he said it before the end of the season, which hurt the teams morale and is just a classless way to do it. Other than that hes played well enough to be considered one of the best backs in the game. He will be missed by fantasy owners.

Its a classy move. The guy is putting family and the future in front of glamour and football. Just like any job - if your going to retire, it is more classy for you to let your peers know ahead of time so that they can disect your brain and learn from you and prepare for it than to spring it on them when its too late to learn anything of value. Tiki gave the Giants the chance to work Jacobs into the offense a little more and I am sure Jacobs had a chance to pick Tikis brain a little bit extra knowing that he would be gone at the end of hte year.

For reasons I will never understand, Tiki has taken more heat for announcing his retirement at the end fo the season than Randy Moss has for announcing that he doesnt play at 100% and totally quitting on the team.

That said, quitting in his prime, with a young and rising QB, young talented WRs, and a young talented defensive line makes me question if he ever really did have those competitive juices that are needed to play great football.

The last few games and a look like he wants to get out of there. The fire is gone, and maybe in a way it wasn't ever fully there. But right now? Tiki doesnt seem really into it, that is all. Maybe it is just time to go and he knows it.

Stupid question here: with the Giants season being a total mess, why aren't they playing Jacobs more to see what they've got in a potential full-time back? If you know Tiki is gone, and Jacobs has been at least capable in spot duty (enough so to not single-handedly tank their season even further), why aren't you taking a couple games at the end of the season to see what you've got?

He's admitted his desire has fallen and that is why he wants to get out. I am sure a Giants homer can verify this, but in an interview recently he said something to the effect that he knew it was time to go when the Eagles came up on the schedule and he felt like it was just another game on the schedule.I respect him for knowing his time is up. He's a class act. I also wonder if he is secretly sick of the mess the team has become under Coughlin and knows they won't be capable of being a championship caliber team in the next year or two, so he he may as well save his body the undue wear and tear.

As messy as it is, they have been, and in fact still are, in contention for a playoff spot.

This isn't how it happened. Tiki told the team before the season started he was retiring after the season. It got leaked out during the season, and that is why he came out and said he was retiring. I can't remember which Giant it was, but he said when Tiki told them before the season started that he would be retiring, he said the main thing the players said was they all wanted his locker.
