So there was a mass stabbing at a school near Pittsburgh (1 Viewer)

This is crazy, can't feel safe anywhere anymore. Unless we live on 24/7 lockdown, no real way to prevent this.

Did the school have metal detectors?

Meh, I grew up about 20 minutes from here. :kicksrock:

How does someone stab 20 people without one tackling them?

At least they have this ahole in custody and he wasn't able to eat a bullet like so many of these losers. Hopefully the authorities (FBI, etc) gain useful information on why someone would do this.

How do you stab 20 people without being detained? Did the student go Beatrix Kiddo or something?

My cousin's kid goes to this school. She's unharmed, thank god. No life-threatening injuries either.
My nephew is a high school student in Murraysville but luckily not at this school, though it's right down the road. One of his friends was stabbed in math class but wasn't life flighted out, which I can only assume is a positive.

Not sure about tackling them, but how about picking up a chair and beating them with it.

Not blaming any kids, as I'm sure it was a very chaotic situation.

I went to HS here -- it's a sheltered, suburban HS, not the type where stabbings happen. So crazy, everyone is freaking out. My youngest sister just graduated two years ago, so I feel lucky that she was out of there when it happened. I can't imagine anything going down like this at this school.

Four life flighted, so not everyone out of the woods.
Dr. Chris Kaufmann at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, spoke to CNN on air. He said the facility is treating seven teens with stab wounds to their torso, abdomen, chest and back areas. He said that the injuries were "quite serious" and that "some are clearly life-threatening." An adult is also being treated there, he said.

As terrible as this is, if there had been a gun, there would likely be many, many more casualties.

Thanks, Tim. This is a revelation as well as a fantastic discussion changer.

No metal detectors there. I teach at a school just a few miles away so this was a sobering morning. At least one victim on life support, I just heard on CNN.

Most gun incidents involve far fewer casualties.

Kid who (allegedly) did it is getting charged as an adult. He was running around with two knives stabbing people until an assistant principal (and maybe some others) tackled him.

There were a total of 24 injured. 21 students & 1 adult (security guard) were stabbed and 2 other students were injured, most likely from fleeing the school.

My wife's 2 nephews graduated from the school. Youngerst 2 yrs ago.

An assistant principal and student subdued the suspect prior to police arriving.

In my 36 years I never heard or saw the term"life flighted" until I saw it twice in this very thread.
In Pittsburgh, the original medical helicopters were called 'LifeFlight' so, now anytime someone is taken to the hospital in a medical helicopter, we say they were life flighted. Not sure how the rest of the country says it.

Just caught an update with the defense attorney this morning and he stated that there was no bullying involved and the kid had no other known issues which makes this more scarier.

We can reduce suicides by demolishing the GG Bridge too.
