So what is LT situation for week 16? (1 Viewer)

Wondering what the situation is for week 16. What are chances LT rests. What is SD playing for the rest of the way?

Do you keep up on the NFL at all? They likely have to win out to retain home field, unless Balt and Indy both lose again.

Even if Baltimore loses next week, SD still has to win to clinch home field. Come on people. This isn't that difficult.

I try not to respond when people feel the need to belittle others on this board - but my guess is that if WildEyedOne bothered to post a question about the NFL, he might "keep up on". And while he could have gone to NFL.com and researched the answer to this question, he chose to come to this message board and ask, so that maybe he would get the answer, AND some thoughtful insight into not only the actual situation that SD is in, but what those of us who also follow football feel the Chargers might do with the most valuable commodity in football if home field is secured. Instead, he gets a really nice response that is belittling and contains very little helpful info.My answer your question - I feel that regardless of what Baltimore does in the early game next week, we will see the Chargers play a normal game as they will have prepared the entire week as though they had to win. Additionally, LT is also in the driver seat for the rushing title - and while I am not insinuating that Shottenheimer would risk LT hurting himself, I do believe that Marty is just as amazed as everyone by Ladanian this year and will do everything to make sure that he does indeed have the greatest year ever by an NFL player.

There's no "as though" about it.
Except that if Indy loses tomorrow night, and Baltimore loses the early game next week, they actually will have locked up home field and will not have to win. But thanks for the post.

Sorry if I seemed harsh, but come on, a quick runover to www.nfl.com will tell you everything you need to know, just like that.

That's not true. Even if Indy loses tomorrow night and Baltimore loses the early game next week, the Chargers will not have locked up home field.Baltimore is 11-3. If they lose next week they'll be 11-4 and can still finish 12-4. Baltimore beat San Diego. So San Diego has to win 13 games before they can clinch. They have not yet won 13 games.Edited to correct records.

Psst...Baltimore beat San Diego and is just one game behind. Next weeks game is very important for the Chargers.

Even if Balt. lost the early game next week they would be 11-4. SD is 12-2 and if they then lost to Seattle in a late game they would be 12-3 and STILL only one game ahead of Balt. BALT beat them earlier so they own the tiebreaker (& therefore could still catch them in Week 17). The Week 16 game matters for SD regardless of the Colts/Ravens outcomes!

So to answer the question, regardless of what the Ravens or Colts do...the Chargers still need to win next week to sew it up, correct? The only question is whether a win locks up HFA or simply keeps them a game up on the other contenders.

 FANTASY NIRVANA . LT owner here riding him to the Super Bowl 4th year in a row. Thanks Black EYE Joe and now lets hope for another great Game from ROMO this weekend.

Because of the tie-breaker bust against the Ravens, the Chargers must win more games than them. 13 wins is only good enough if Baltimore wins no more than 12.

While the Chargers obviously have a lot at stake next week (and likely week 17), IMO it is possible that LT gets rested a bit more. Now that he's broken Alexander's TD and Hornung's scoring records, there aren't a lot of individual records to gather. Plus, I'm sure seeing Brees go down in a meaningless game last year has to weigh somewhat in Marty's thinking.

Two more games like last night and he pushes up on Dickerson's yardage record.
Yeah, I just noticed that. He's still about 500 yards behind Dickerson, so it's pretty much out of reach. Given LT's unbelievable year, it goes to show what kind of year Dickerson had in his own right.

No, thank you.

Serious suggestion: could we get a "San Diego can not clinch homefield without winning on Sunday, even if the Ravens lose" sticky so we can avoid having this question come up 30 times this week?
